When ever some one talks about India being a British construct or south being different from north etc, I stick this Malayalam poem(Jnana-pana) written much before British in their face.
Please know that this our motherland,
Is the land to do Karmas,
    And it is definitely impossible,
To destroy the residual karmas any where else.
In the peak and center of the lotus of this earth,
Stands the mountain of Maha Meru,
And there are nine major parts of this earth,
And the most sacred is the Bharatha country.
The source of all Karma is this land,
Even for those great souls in Brahma Loka,
And it is here only that Karma is destroyed.
    If one desires moksha,
And though it is for sure that these can’t easily be done,
Anywhere else other than in Bharatha land.
Please do remember that this land of Bharatha,
Is the most sacred land known,
And in the vast time periods this Kali time period,
    Leads to moksha most easily.
    Thinking about this,
Those living in the other thirteen worlds,
Those living in the six other islands,
Those living in the other eight countries,
And those living in the other three time periods,
Realizing that they would not get mukti easily.
    With folded hands do salutations,
To the Country of Bhratha and the time period of Kali.
    (And say)
'To be at least a grass in that country,
And be born now in this time period ,
We were not lucky enough oh,God,
And so our salutations to the men,
Of Bharatha country and Kali time period.'

Makar Sankranti is celebrated CORRECTLY in Mid-January because that's the time that Surya(Sun) moves into Makar Rashi(Capricorn).
Makar Sankranti should NOT be celebrated on the 21st of Dec.
That would be right if we followed the Western Tropical Zodiac System.
And the Western Tropical Zodiac is not accepted by the Vedic Sidereal Astrology system.

The best book on you question is The Nay Science by Vishwa Adluri where he lays out in detail the Western (primarily German) creation of the Aryan myth and alongside that the theory that Brahmins were akin to Jewish priests who distorted "ancient Aryan religion". In addition to this Max Mueller created the Aryan Invasion Theory that to date has no evidence to back it up (including genetic) and described an imposition of a supposed Aryan religion by a white people invading India. Most of this comes from a western desire to reconcile or denigrate Dharmic viewpoint relative to a Biblical narrative.

Isn’t it therefore just amazingly astounding how India is rarely if ever mentioned and then too dismissively, cursorily, as a mere ‘was also there’ in documentaries.
It would be useful to get a list of these untranslated, other books, scattered around the world. In a way that would become a checklist inventory of texts awaiting translation and allow targeting of these. After all, we can only make a target if we can see it, aware of its existence.
