  • St. Marys Falls are located in Buffalo Canyon, an offshoot of North Cheyenne Canyon in Colorado Springs. The hike starts at the Upper Gold Camp Road Parking Lot. You might find a few old gold prospects along the way. Gold Camp Road was once the site of the historic Short Line Railroad, which ran from Colorado Springs to the gold rush boom towns of Victor and Cripple Creek. The trains carried mining supplies and ore as well as passengers.
After the boom ended the tracks were removed and the route was converted to a toll road for cars. But in the 1980s the third of nine tunnels collapsed and the road was close. Tow of the other tunnels have completely collapsed.
St. Mary's Falls are best viewed in the spring, when snowmelt and the early monsoon season is running at full tilt.
