Joe Benigno always the authority on all things Jets related. OH THE PAIN
I want them back in Queens. They should've never left. At least play a preseason game or one regular season game a year at Citi Field.
Yes hell yes
Why would they play preseason games in Citi Field? Met Life is much bigger than Citi Field so the Jets make more money
I’m a Giants fan but I grew up in a jets house in the late 70, and 80 and I agree with you, they can add more seats to citi field.
@@Kevin-po2dl but why bother when Met Life is much better for football.
@@joedimaggio3687 I just want to see them back in Queens where they belong.
I also want the NY Jets back to NYC where they belong. Plus, they need their own damn stadium next to citi field.
Jon Jon Maybe If Woody Johnson sells the team it’ll happen some day. I hope so
Heck yeah
nashville Titans new York jets
Really that game turned into the last goodbye for the 70s Steelers.
It was Bradshaw's and Harris' last hurrah but the Steelers made the AFC Championship game the following year with some players from the 70's still in the lineup..
As a Steelers fan this is a memorable game. Bradshaws last game. I remember it was a Saturday game. The fans ripping the seats out is a lasting memory.
Boooooo!!! Should have never left Shea/Queens, NY
I Think The Jets Should Have Left Shea Stadium After The 1979 Season.
Exactly
2:33. Guy with cigarette trying to take a seat. Now that is classic
Even better: When Shibe Park played its last baseball game in 1970, Phillies fans stole the toilets!
The Mets weren’t too happy with the fans ripping out the seats, they be like, “Wait just a damn second, we still play here you know!”
Yeah, I'm like, these seats are Mets' orange and the Jets were the guests at Shea Stadium in comparison. Yet fans are treating the stadium like it was going to be imploded after the season. The Mets and Shea Stadium were like one and the same. The Jets mostly lost at Shea Stadium except in the late 60s when Namath had his magic arm.
Senators fans did the same thing to RFK Stadium in 1971. The Senators had a 7-5 lead on the Yankees...but before the game was over, fans trashed the field, and the Senators had to forfeit.
I was watching this and it hit me - hey wait, they weren't shutting down the stadium and the Mets would still be there for several more seasons. You don't rip out the seats until the stadium is done.
I remember there was a PA announcement that basically said that, but no one listened. lol
@@markmccracken6951 the Mets where there for like 25 plus years so yeah they needed their seats
Last game at Shea...last game for Bradshaw...
Dodgers leaving Brooklyn. Jets leaving queens. The removal of the trolleys. In that order!
I want the Jets back in New York!
Jets fans, we’re the second most dedicated fan base in football. I’ll give the browns fans credit as first for all they deal with. But seriously the Jets should have their own stadium in New York. We’re the New York Jets. Not the New Jersey Jets!
I agree so much as a die hard jets fan since 1980 I remember as a 10 year old watching this game and being upset that we lost but knew we were moving like my first 3 years as a young fan were gone and Shea was great for those dirty gritty games will always remember them we should have been back to a,rebuilt shea years ago and would be in queens next to the jets where we belong but I will always have a special place in my heart for Shea still miss that great stadium
Same goes for the Giants.
Blame James Dolan for the Jets not getting a stadium on west side of Manhattan
@@keithclark7266 there's honestly no space in NY city for it. They moved due to problems with logistics. Same for the Giants.
they put N.J. Jets on the scoreboard. I had stopped going to Shea by then. Had a season ticket to the Mets in 1981-82 and went to all eight Jet home games in 1981 (plus some in 1980 and opening day 1982). Then girls started liking me.
Ironically, the Jets' first regular season game at the Meadowlands was also against the Steelers. They lost that one, too.
on a thursday night!
james sollazzo That pissed me off even more. For years the Jets could never get a home National TV game at night. 1979 was the last one. And the Jets were a really good team in 81/82, don’t know why they didn’t get a home MNF game in 83, their last year there. Once they went to the Meadowlands suddenly every year they hosted home MNF games
This was also Terry Bradshaw last game.
Exactly right. He threw a TD pass to Greg Garrity and his elbow tendon snapped.
After the 83 season, Bradshaw, Harris, Blount and Loren Toews never played for Steelers again
My picture made the Daily News since I was standing right behind the banner that said "Goodbye to the House that Namath built". The Jets belong in Queens, not the Meadowlands
i was too young to remember the Steeler Super Bowls and this was the only game I remember watching Bradshaw play. Also I remember watching the scenes in the crowd and my mom was very calmly asking "don't they know the Mets will still play there?" hahaha
i live in the neighborhood of shea. one of the goal post wound up behind my apt building. we used it in a kids pick up game.. my friend who lived in a nearby house took it home... he became a huge exec in tv sports. i nearly went.. went on a day trip with my scout troop.. get home a friend had an extra ticket but i was already out for the day
Originally, while the Jets played here, the Giants played at the old Yankee Stadium. Both baseball stadiums were also home to college football teams. Yankee Stadium was home to the NYU Violets, while Shea Stadium was home to the St. John’s Red Storm. NYU is no longer Division 1, and IDK why.
The last game for the Jets at Shea, was also the last time Bradshaw would play for the Steelers. It was heartbreak on both sides.
I was there. Marty was mostly right - it wasn’t a riot - but the first guy who tried to storm the goal post was taken out by the cops in a pretty violent fashion.
My first football game! I was 8. What an experience!
I grew up going to Shea So I named my baby daughter SHEA.
Ughhhhh..how I remember this game....friggin Bradshaw....this would be the ONLY GAME he would play all season as well as his last...his passes had no zip whatsoever but he still managed to burn the Jets and end their playoff hopes...at season's end, Joe Walton made wholesale changes' including trading away my favorite player, Richard Todd...what a horrible way to say goodbye to Ol Shea...
I saw guys with a hacksaw cutting up sections of the goalpost later on in the parking lot.
Yes, Shea was cold, ugly and didn't have enough bathrooms. But it was part of the Jets identity & character. Tough, gritty & blue-collar, just like their fans. And those fans were loud (like the planes from nearby LaGuardia Airport), obnoxious, raucous. Shea literally rocked when Gang Green had their best moments.
I don't believe in curses, but the Jets leaving New York cast a huge shadow over the franchise ever since. It has not been the same. MetLife Stadium is a boring, character-less, concrete pit. Owner Woody Johnson has made awful decisions, but he can regain a measure of respect - and restore pride- by returning them to Queens where they truly belong.
As die hard jets fan this makes me sick and angry am tired being 2nd class idiots to the giants why cant we have our freaking stadium why man 😭😭😭
New York already blew $3 billion on two baseball stadiums. Where are you going to put a football stadium?
I always carry my seat around, looking for Jets to sign it
Still trying to get signatures for the DiamondVision screen
RIP Franco Harris
In my opinion The Jets should've moved to Brooklyn leaving Giants stadium for the Giants only
I Think Going To Giants Stadium Was The Best Thing That Happened To The Jets.
I Think If New York City Wanted To Built a Football Stadium In Brooklyn? They Should-But Have Both The Jets And Giants Play There.
No have the stadium for the Jets only in Queens NY MetLife stadium for the Giants only
Oh I miss those lawless days in NYC!!!!!
Four time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame QB Terry Bradshaw was upstaged by a stadium in his 'Swann' song
Behold the wonder that is Shea
They can at least come back to Citi Field. They belong in Queens. At least play one game a year there whether it be a preseason game or one regular season game. You know what. Every year they play the Giants they should play at Citi Field & should alternate with the Giants & play at Yankee stadium for Giant home games.
NFL rules require a stadium seating at least 50,000. That's what the cookie-cutters averaged; even that wasn't enough.
Never understood why the Jets didn't got their own stadium
Where would they put it?
Not enough room in NYC
at least they tried to build them their own stadium in nyc on the hudson rail yards that didnt pan out well
How damn stadiums and arenas can there be in one city? All of these stadiums and arenas would be in direct competition for concerts and trade shows.
The place was a madhouse by the end of the game.
Those weren't police most were rent-a-cops who also used to work at Yankee stadium. Used to be like two cops at each game.
If you only like New York teams, you should all start liking the Buffalo Bills.
The 1983 season was a tremendous disappointment for the Jets.
2:36 whats the odds that guy is still alive??🤣
Cool video!
They should be renamed the Jersey Jets since they play in New Jersey.
The last baseball game at Shea was even worse for the audience.
This is hilarious only in New York
The guy with the yellow jacket took full beer cans off his lid
I know because I sent one off his dome
Is this full video or is there more
Was this also the last football game at Shea?
This was the last Jets football game at Shea in 1982 but it was the Mets baseball stadium till 2008.
I think St John's played a few there
wow dis is great
I was there
I was at this Game
I was at that game
Miss the old unies. We need a owner who get's it haven't had one you could be proud of in many years. The moved to "Giants" stadium how little brother can you be. The Johnson's suck too, they do not know how to build a sustainable winning franchise and are always chasing a short cut. If you want to turn this thing around you have to find an architect with a Super Bowl winning resume that is not from over 10 years ago.
2:37 Now if they did that in Philly, they'd be pieces of shit.
they be in the stadium jail at the old vet lmao
What documentary is this from?
NFL films presents
i can understand the jets and giants moving to nj..75k+ fans on a given sunday is a bit much for a sm section of real estate... but why didnt they just build a brand new shea? with all the bells and whistles a new stadium offers? citifield is ok but its still just a cookie cutter of many others... shea had its own character..and charm..it was all queens and ALL mets.....i m o..rip shea
I was there.
Should of never left
