An easy way to test it get a fuel pressure tester start the engine let it run for a second turn the engine off it should hold pressure and slowly come down if it drops down to zero really fast then it’s either going to be a regulator or an injector

But not seeing power steering fluid anywhere made me wonder where it was going, well I took it back apart and put it together, took the intake tube off and BAM! Found out where my power steering fluid was going lol. I am having this same issue now with my 2008 Nissan Armada so I will get it checked out and hopefully these money sucking mechanics won't have me replacing things that don't need replacing.
Similar problem with my 2004 Porsche Boxster. Was driving, and all of the sudden white smoke was bellowing out of the exhaust. It went away after a bit of driving, but after starting it a few hours later, more smoke. I suspected the worst(head gasket), but I wasn't losing any coolant and the car was maintaining safe operating Temps. The mechanic replaced the air/oil separator and says the car doesn't smoke at all now - picking it up tonight so we'll see. Great video by the way, very concise and helpful.

However, when I am going downhill for any extended amount of time, say a couple of miles when I get to the bottom of the hill & am driving on a straight & flat road the white smoke bellows out of the exhaust like the truck is on fire 🔥 for about a mile. 😭 any ideas 🤔
Yeah we did that just put brand new performance injectors in on a 2000 grand Marquis and we got the same issue all of the engine is running a lot better than it did before it’s not misfiring but now we got white smoke before that we had other brand new injectors that was causing misfires and dumping too much fuel into the porch but there was no white smoke constant problem solved

I have a dakota 2001 4.7 and it has a Poweraid air system added. I have been asking mechanics to tell me why I have SOME smoke out the tailpipe on occasion, but they all seem to want to diagnose it for $$$. I know about compression testing and Leak testing for Valves and Piston issues and the possibility, but this truck only smokes a very little and only when I'm doing short work (yard work) or when I put it in reverse. All videos talking about smoke don't specify that it has to be a LOT of smoke or a Little smoke to be valves of pistons. I am not wanting to put that kind of money if my problem isn't a problem. Does a Poweraid Air Boost create the potential for pockets of fuel to create white smoke? It doesn't smoke when idle, or on the highway or at stop signs...but it does when I sit for more than a couple minutes in park/stopped. I'm looking for the truth about this so I can be at peace. Grateful!!!
Hi all. I'm stumped and really need your help and advice regarding a fair bit of white smoke coming out the exhaust until the coolant temp reaches around 60oC. Now I know this would usually be water, but I'm not loosing any coolant at all! ...Nor am I losing oil or have any mayo under the oil filler cap. Equally there's no oil in the coolant reservoir either. No loss of power. Starts and drives fine too, it's just an embarrassing amount of smoke/vapour that almost filled the car park at work yesterday! I always warm up the car before I drive it, and it hasn't overheated before. So, I put it to you great people for your suggestions... Many thanks in advance!

I think this may be my problem, all my fuel injectors are making the constant clicking sound but i have the fuel smell as well. Once i start the truck its a sometimes and sometimes not with the thick white smoke. So, would i have faulty injeactors as well as valve cover gasket?
I have a Lexus rx300 (1999).. It has been sitting for 2 years but i decided to start it up again.. The sparkplugs where bad so i replaced them..and suddenly the white smoke started.. But i only have this when doing a cold start..but it happens sometimes, sometimes not. I don't see any water leaks, the temperature is stable and no milky water spot in the oil cap.. So I'm confused what can cause this suddenly after a sparkplug change?? .. I haven't done a engine oil service yet till now.. So what seem to be the issue here? 😕
I got a 99 f250 superduty 5.4 Triton I replaced fuel pump know it knocks from passenger side engine, blows white smoke, shakes bad, and stalls when I hit the gas. Fuel injectors is my last thing to replace with those symptoms, hopefully. It's been sitting for awhile
I hate it when classical rules of thumb, in this case that white smoke is usually water in a combustion chamber, is dead wrong. Presumably the smell of gas, and maybe fuel trim dialed way down one one bank, steered the diagnosis in the correct direction.

I have a 2015 kia soul and its blowing white smoke alittle bit and one cylinder is misfiring. The catalyic code came up saying the cat needs to replaced. Im assuming one fuel injector is malfunctioning causing too much gas or not enough gas and therefore the white smoke is coming out and misfiring. Wish me luck The coolant is good and is not mixing. Coolant has been level and is perfectly fine. Oil consumption a bit I was told. That's why im strongly thinking it could be the fuel injector.

I really need help because this got me scratching my head. 05 5.3 270k. Every once in awhile I'd get a bit of smoke on startup nothing major. Well couple weeks ago I was out running errands. Truck drove great like always. Got home and parked it for a few hours. Had to go to corner store and while backing out my driveway I had no brakes (brake line from master cylinder blew under driver's side door) so pulled back in and also noticed idle was a little off and bouncing like it wanted to stall. Truck sat for 4 days until I could replace the brake line. Well I started it and now it smokes out the tailpipe and has a jumpy idle. No check engine light or overheating and oil looks good with good pressure. I know about the pcv valve problem these have but I don't think a pcv would cause this much smoke. I'm scared to drive it. Weird this happened when my brake line gave out. Help would be greatly appreciated

One of the easiest ways to check this is put a fuel pressure tester on your car start the car let it run for about 20 seconds cut the car off watch the gauge if it drops really fast you either have a bad regulator or a bad injector that’s not holding pressure it’s gonna come down some but it should come slowly

Please specific your vehicle make, model and etc as detail so good Samaritan will be able to help if they have experienced it or have knowledge about it. In general vehicle, for the white smoke, did you change the valve seal when do overhaul. If change, then do check for coolant level. For no compression, is your vehicle engine type non interference (I will not suspect head gasket as you should change it when do overhaul). Your vehicle sure will not idle well as there is no compression.
Good evening, I have a lexus is220 diesel with 180000km, the car drives right, but when we move at a relatively low speed from 0 to 50 km. the exhaust emits white smoke and in the engine I have coolant scattered everywhere, is there a chance that it is smoking from a simple leak in the water pump pipe or is it sure the leak is from the motor? P.S. when I accelerate from 160 km and above the temperature rises sharply and drops in 1 minute as soon it goes down to normal P.S I have put on a new fridge and a new turbo thanks
The smoke coming from under the hood might be a different concern. burn an easy way to tell is hook a fuel pressure tester start the car and let it run for like 30 seconds, cut it off and the fuel pressure should stay when you cut the car off, it will come down slowly over a few minutes but if it should not come down really fast.if it does then you have an injector that’s open or a bad regulator

But not seeing power steering fluid anywhere made me wonder where it was going, well I took it back apart and put it together, took the intake tube off and BAM! Found out where my power steering fluid was going lol. Idk changed the oil, poured a hole can of sea foam in the gas tank and a whole can in the engine, took the fuel rail off injectors out cleaned everything it’s fine.
Hope it works for you
What is a air/oil separator because my 2018 Chevy Equinox has white smoke coming out, I'm not losing coolant, I'm not overheating. My oil is Not Milky
@@dsandoval7843 the way I understand it is that it captures/ separates oil vapors from the engine ventilation system and redirects them back to the oil pan. So if it's not functioning properly, the oil vapors would be burned in the combustion cycle. I'd definitely take it to a trusted mechanic to see what he/she thinks
Update plzz was that the problem or was it the fuel injectors??
@@royal-tbutler2241 it was the air/oil seperator. It only smokes a little on a cold start which is apparently normal with this car. It stops after a few moments.
99 dodge ram 1500 when I drive on a flat surface a little bit of white smoke comes out of the tailpipe & the check engine light is on it says multiple misfire. However, when I am going downhill for any extended amount of time, say a couple of miles when I get to the bottom of the hill & am driving on a straight & flat road the white smoke bellows out of the exhaust like the truck is on fire 🔥 for about a mile. 😭 any ideas 🤔
That is something I would definitely have to test rather and look at myself in person
U r the best, i had the same exact issue on 2015 nissan patrol gu engine 4.8L, i followed ur step and yeah one injector is leaking, white smoke fuel smell and misfire, now will change this injector
Thanks a lot
Was it the injector ?
Grateful!!!
I’m having the same problem but no miss fire. What does that mean?
Im no professional , but if white smoke is coming out then you should check your head gasket . Coolant could be leaking through

Does your exhaust smell sweet or does it smell like gas?

I think this may be my problem, all my fuel injectors are making the constant clicking sound but i have the fuel smell as well. Once i start the truck its a sometimes and sometimes not with the thick white smoke. It always vacates after going so far down the road, but when then white smoke vactes, i can see some blue smoke that will vacate as well. So, would i have faulty injeactors as well as valve cover gasket?
You need to do a leak down test
@AutoRepairTips757 how do I do that?
I have a Lexus rx300 (1999).. It has been sitting for 2 years but i decided to start it up again.. The sparkplugs where bad so i replaced them..and suddenly the white smoke started.. But i only have this when doing a cold start..but it happens sometimes, sometimes not. I don't see any water leaks, the temperature is stable and no milky water spot in the oil cap.. So I'm confused what can cause this suddenly after a sparkplug change?? .. I haven't done a engine oil service yet till now.. So what seem to be the issue here?

does the smoke smell like oil or fuel

I hate it when classical rules of thumb, in this case that white smoke is usually water in a combustion chamber, is dead wrong. Presumably the smell of gas, and maybe fuel trim dialed way down one one bank, steered the diagnosis in the correct direction.
Like the intro it's pretty cool.
Agreed
I'm dealing with the same issue. At some point you just have to pay a professional to properly diagnose it... There's too many possibilities.

Im hoping its the fuel injector because if not, im looking at a serious engine job. I already replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, verified spark in the cylinder. Wish me luck
The coolant is good and is not mixing.

Help would be greatly appreciated
do a leak down test on the fuel system, i think the brakes and the smoke happening at the same time are a coincidence.

Please specific your vehicle make, model and etc as detail so good Samaritan will be able to help if they have experienced it or have knowledge about it. In general vehicle, for the white smoke, did you change the valve seal when do overhaul. If change, then do check for coolant level.

My truck is smoking a lot whenever I press the gas, so I thought it was just a coolant leak but couldn’t see any leaks under the car and I wasn’t losing coolant, I placed head gasket sealer in the radiator (thinking it’s the head gasket) and then it started overheating for some reason. The white smoke is still the same and I can’t figure out why it’s there and why the car is overheating.
