I absolutely love the 35mm f1.4. I hardly ever use anything else. I’ve got a little rain cover for when it rains and it even helps me feel a bit more discreet as well as the added protection.
Agree, such a nice lens. Used it out in the snow for a couple hours and it survived no problem, but yeah, its better to use an umbrella at the best least!
The fine details and the character of the f/1.4 is an easy choice over the 35 f/2 in my opinion. I would say get a good filter for the front and a rain cover if that's the biggest issue with the lens, because you cannot get the character back, but you can protect the 1.4 from the elements.
Owned both lenses for about a year and these are my conclusions: AF: f2: snappy, reliable, video af still jerky f1.4: not so snappy, unreliable in bad conditions, video af very noticeable jerks and pumping weight and size: Hardly any difference Style and the feels: f2: bang-on contrasty and sharp rendering. Fully saturated colors. Hardly any problems with direct light and flares f1.4: soft in a lovely, tender way, beautiful tones and sharp to blurry rendering. Direct light and flares have to be controlled. When it is used carefully/lucky it's such a joy. Absolutely beautiful. If it's off it's a mess. So i sold the f2 and kept the 1.4. Though it was my first fuji lens and i bought it used when it was already a couple of years old it is kind of wobbly and noisy. So i looked out for a newer version on the used market and found one barely used and not even a year old. The f2 is a great lens, very reliable and well designed and build. But the 1.4 is the reason i fell for the fuji system and i still love it to bits. On a side note: I also bought the viltrox, which is actually technically pretty great. And the video af is the best of these three. But it looks like any other sony/sigma/canon lens. Soft bokeh, very sharp, but hardly any character...
Hope your brother said thanks for using the lens! :D sounds like the f2 would be better for street in adverse weather conditions. Loved this review! Keep it up
Thanks for this! There is quite a bit of AF difference on an X-Pro1 😉. The f2 gives the old lady a right kick up the AF butt 😎. For everyday use, on my X-Pro1 the f2 does just great. And the old sensor gives the newer lenses a nice ‚not so digital‘ look. Cheers
What do you think about using it? Xa7 Will I be able to use the full performance of the lens? And if compared to other lenses, 33mm f1.4 r lm wr What do you think?
Huge thanks 🙏🏼. There was news of a mk2 version of it a few weeks back but Fujifilm said it isn't happening. That said, they added WR to the 27mm 2.8 so its certainly possible.
this is the exact question i've been asking! I have the 56mm f/1.2 and 16mm f/1.4. Needed to decide on 35mm vs 23mm, and f/2 vs f/1.4. Deciding on the 35mm f/2 for my use case :)
Thank you for this very interesting comparison between these 2 lenses. I own an X100F. Big fan of urban night photography, I'm considering buying the 1.4 paired with either an X-T30 II or X-E4.
Fantastic comparison 😊👏 I would like to see between 50mm f2 and 56mm f1.2 too! I own 35mm f2 and it is my most used lens for everyday...I would like to try 1.4 due to this "filmic look" that everybody talks about, but I really like contrasty look with of the Fujicron f2 primes... Also WR is really important for me too... I think Fuji will come up with something like 30mm or 33mm f 1.2 or 1.4 in the future 😁
Huge thanks bro! The Fujifilm 27 f2.8 should be an interesting lens! Looking forward to testing that one out. And yeah, I'll have the 50-56 up this month too.
Hey Eren, great shots. I love walking around London doing street photography. I've been using legacy lenses on my X-E2 and now X-Pro2, but am thinking about a Fuji 35mm lens. I want to know if any of these would be better for manual focus. (I know these are focus-by-wire) so not great. but if you need to manual focus, which one would you choose. thanks mate.
TBH, no Fujifilm lens will be as good as the legacy ones when it comes to manual. The lenses, especially the F2 range are built with AF in mind. Which legacy lenses do you use, been mean ing to test some out!?
Thanks for the reply. I use Olympus OM Zuiko legacy lenses with a speedbooster. The 50mm F1.4 and a 28mm f2 which give me a 52mm and 30mm field of view. They are very compact and nice lenses to use.
Really enjoyed the video, thanks for the comparison. Maybe next time you don't need to say '35mm' everytime you're identifying the lenses, and could just say f2 or f1.4, since they're both the same focal length?
Hocam Merhabalar kolay gelsin.
I've had both focal lengths, and kept the 23mm 1.4. In practice, for me, 23mm is just way too close to 35mm. For primes, I'd rather have a bigger difference in the focal length: like getting the 16mm and 35mm (or 23mm and 56mm as I have).
@@max-olson i was thinking of the 16mm next for a bigger jump in length. I only have a 35mm at the moment, i have just come off a 18-55 & 55-250 canon kit combo onto a xt30 with prime so still getting used to a fixed lens.
Comes down to personal choice, I like using the 23 (yet to test out the 23 1.4) and the 35 for street, find 16mm a bit too wide. With the 16 you'll have more choice though, can shoot more architecture/indoor stuff with the wider lense.
@@erenjam hell yeah. I just got the 35mm 1.4. I figured I can wait a year or 2 on the new stuff. Let the hype and price go down while I experience the magic of the original
Useful comparison, use-case based, Eren. Your brother has a good teacher. (Keep an eye on your gear😁. ) The faster lenses are said to be somewhat noisier when focusing, a negative for video shooters. Your use was photo, not video, but did you detect any differences? Soon you won’t have that “lockdown” excuse😁. Cheers!
Haha, time to put the lenses under lock and key! The 35 likes to chatter a bit but its not noticeable outdoors, different story for video though! .... counting down the days now :D !
Can't wait for your video where you wound perform juggling with three lenses. How about four and a camera? Just wear a wig and your channel would reach plenty of circus lovers. Thank for sharing your juggling skills.
The 35 1.4 is simply magical for me with its film like color tone. The only lens that I need and I choose if I only can choose one from all the lens on Fujifilm line up. Had the chance to try the f2 version for couple month from my friend just for the sake of WR, but somehow I didnt get the same feeling like when using the 1.4. There is some magical unexplained thing that come with the 1.4 and when you look at the photo result. Combining it with my Xpro2 Graphite and its simply the best for me, been using the lens for almost 5 years now and not gonna sell it 😄
I absolutely love the 35mm f1.4. I hardly ever use anything else. I’ve got a little rain cover for when it rains and it even helps me feel a bit more discreet as well as the added protection.

hey wich rain cover do you use?
I used it in the rain with out any issues. Smash it up
Realise this is an older video, but I really love your shots, they're super atmospheric.
The 1.4 was my first X-mount lens. It's my go-to for street photography.
Started with a winner!
I owned both for quite a while, the f2 was quicker to focus and a bit sharper, but I liked the look of the f1.4. I sold the f2.
The fine details and the character of the f/1.4 is an easy choice over the 35 f/2 in my opinion. I would say get a good filter for the front and a rain cover if that's the biggest issue with the lens, because you cannot get the character back, but you can protect the 1.4 from the elements.
Yh I agree, the 1.4 created really pleasing images to the eye
The 1.4 is glued to my X-Pro3 and just love that setup...
Nice combo!
Xf 35mm 1.4 and 56mm 1.2 are my favorite Fuji lenses. If you are shooting street and need solid af, go with the 35mm f2
Owned both lenses for about a year and these are my conclusions:
AF:

f1.4: not so snappy, unreliable in bad conditions, video af very noticeable jerks and pumping

23mm f/1.4 vs 23mm f/2 will be another great video!
Noted! 🙏🏼
Cheee your edits are such heat. you made a ridiculous mood out of the fuji colors maddddd
Huge thanks Robert 🙏🏼
My question is if you ever dropped the lenses since you were throwing it so much from hand to hand, I was in suspense the whole video 😂😂
lol! yet to drop a lens!
Bro my heart stops every time you juggle with those lenses😅
🤹🏻
Me too!!!!
Hope your brother said thanks for using the lens! :D sounds like the f2 would be better for street in adverse weather conditions. Loved this review! Keep it up
😂😂 The 35f2 is my go to for all conditions, the 1.4 is more a specialist lens
Thanks for this! There is quite a bit of AF difference on an X-Pro1 😉.

Haha, the f2 is such. a good lens, incredible price as well when compared to other 35mm lenses on other camera systems
My 35 1.4 is my go to lens though, I always tend to grab that one. Great video bro as always
Big thanks dude. Love how it feels in the hand. 👌🏼
Thank you for sharing, very nice comparison. This is exactly what I need🙌🏼
Thank you!
What do you think about using it? Xa7 Will I be able to use the full performance of the lens? And if compared to other lenses, 33mm f1.4 r lm wr What do you think?
can save a to of money by going for the f2 or 35 1.4, Will work great on the Xa7
35mm f1.4 is a no go because of slow noisy focus, no weather resistance and comparably bad resolution. 35mm f2 is the better choice for me clearly.
Both give different looks imo but I still use both lenses, can;t go wrong with either of them
Would love to see that 56mm f1.4 vs the 50mm f2 video! ive been stuck on whether to get either of those or this 35mm f2
Perfect, you're in luck, dropped the 56vs50 last month :D
Nice comparison 👏. I own f1.4 and really love it. Still hoping mk2 of this lens. For weather conditions I bought 50mm f2 which really enjoy.

1.4 with either of those cameras is a great setup for night. Thank you!
How do to use the 35 F1.4 in raining days? since the lens don't have water resistence protection
with an umbrella / covering the camera with my arm. I won't use it if its raining heavy
Fantastic comparison 😊👏

I should have an episode up by the end of the month comparing those two 🙏🏼
Thats why i go with the 50mm f1.0 wr now. Its big and heavy but still smaller than my old fullframe 85mm 1.4.
@@SteamSyndicate the 50mm f1 looks interesting, another one to consider.
@@MarkVoce except its heavy and expensive its just the best lense of them.

Good to hear David! really depends in the FL you prefer using, I prefer the 35mm on fujifilm,
@@erenjam thanks, I have the xt4!
