I have a 51 52. It’s missing the hold down which you have. There is a small pin that fits in the adjustable fence which holds it at 90 degrees and hat appears to be missing bad well. I intend to make one at some time.

Add a shelf at the bottom of the motor stand then put some sandbags there to keep the stand stable. Old blue jean legs filled and sewed!

You say you polished the lever cap. Did you buff it to the point of removing the plating entirely? I noticed at the start of the video, there was some serious rust on the lower edge of it. So was this all done with a buffing wheel? Nice setup and a great old plane.

I basically had to sand or scrape the old chrome plating off. I didn't include that in the video..because I wanted to keep it short as possible. I then fine sanded it and then I polished it out. I ran into a similar situation I think with my no.5 restoration. Caswell plating will be sending me a scrubber wheel that helps to remove corroded plating

Works ok, but hate the noise it makes compared to a wooden shop made shooting board.
The plane itself should be useful.

Thank you for watching and leaving feedback. I noticed that as well when using the 52. I need to get some of the tape that veritas uses.

Not really restored. Who puts stain on a rosewood handle? Lever cap was originally nickel plated not spray painted, same with replacing japanning with spraypaint. You essentially cleaned it up as opposed to a true restoration.

The lever cap was not spray painted..just the logo. I polished the lever cap because the nickel plating was gone. The stain helped to accentuate the handle, and it was beech..not rosewood. Stanley started using beech handles around the 1940's. Considering the plane was neglected..and I cleaned and polished every piece..I would say its a restoration.

Sorry…have to agree it was nicely cleaned up, but not literally “restore”. I come to that conclusion conclusion because my father restored many planes, point that a broken true rosewood handle was replaced by a precisely formed replacement made from the same species of rosewood. You did make it look and function well, but it was not a true “restoration”.
