Nice seeing a more obtainable trim reviewed! Great idea that I hope we see more of!

Great representation of the 135hp model! I have a 23 base, and couldn't be happier. The $ savings covered the roof, winch, fender flares, mirrors, lower doors, SuperATV front and back windshield, and the CT gusset kit! I could see wanting more power if you're running sand dunes all the time, but for the east coast, 135 is more than enough. (I'm in Ontario too). Plus the engine internals are the same for the 200 and 135hp models, meaning you're putting 30% less power thru the designed level... that translates to a longer lasting engine. Insurance is less. Better gas mileage. No question the 135hp model is the best value! And you nailed it with your comment about the 200hp just means more wheel spin. The 135 is so torquey, and stupidly fast off the line. It's just slightly slower then the 200hp at 0-40mph (60kph). The 200hp shines 40-60 mph, and a bit more top end, which really is pointless. The base top speed is around 70mph (115kph), which is pretty insane in these things.
Edit: In terms of difference for the RR (one step up from base, and $3k CAD more): The RR has higher vol fuel pump and injectors, intercooler, bigger turbo, magneto. Everything else is absolutely identical, which makes sense from a manufacturing perspective, no line switch outs, better inventory mgt, component price breaks. Likely also worth noting that buying the 135 hp to upgrade it to 200 is a mistake. The components cost more, and the ECU needs to be changed and tuned by a pro, which is $$.

As a Honda fan boy...and the owner of a 2023 X3 DS, I agree with this review 100%. If you're looking to spend more for a machine, your money is better spent on this and then spend your money on all of the accessories and upgraded components that you want. 200hp is tempting but it can't achieve anything out on the trail that 135hp can't do. The turbo power delivery is intoxicating and 135hp will still get you in trouble. And the price point for this level of features is hard to beat. Save your money for repairs. Heck, for what some people spend on one, you could have two X3 DS's!

I have owned a couple of these in the last 4 years and they are without a doubt a great trail machine in most states. ***Be very aware of the fact it does not have an intercooler and therefore extremely loud*** earplugs are necessary for most of us.

Great review again guys thanks for all you do 🇨🇦. This seems like a great “budget” type sport machine from Canam. I’ve got this one and the Yamaha Yxz 1000ss on my radar but just need to finally decide on it. 😅

Love your reviews, but if I could provide some feedback on these budget models is to really demonstrate how they stack up to the big rigs. A quick drag race from a dig, and from 50 kph would show the difference in power well, and even a tripod camera set up to show both a high end unit and the base model run a section of bumpy trail would really show what youre gaining for all the extra money. Right now I have a renegade 850, and have been slowly looking for sxs. It is very difficult to know if I will enjoy 135hp or wish I had gotten the 200hp version as a fast quad rider, so comparing a bit more objectively would be very helpful in making decisions. Regardless, a good review and glad you mentioned the cheaper showa shocks and how they perform, this seems like a great option (especially since you can tune it to 200hp afterwards).

I put over 2200 miles on my 2022 DS 120 X3 and it would haul the mail . They get slept on. I honestly think the 22s were already “135”ish Hp because Whalen dyno ran them and was getting numbers at the wheels to high to be 120 crank. On my YT channel I raced it against my 2023 1000R Outlander both in 4H and the Outlander jumps out stays one quad length ahead til 70 then the baby x3 walked it hard , from a 20 roll the baby X3 trashed it , wasn’t even remotely a race . The 135 will run right with a 181 hp rzr pro xp til upper mid range . For the price I tell everyone you just cannot beat the 135hp x3 for flat out fun for the money.
I now have an XRC RR . The 200hp doesn’t feel any different until you dip in a little harder , it definitely pulls harder in the Midrange . I DS 120 had like a tip over spot that was fun when the engine tone changed and it was boosting , the 200hp doesn’t do that , it’s just one strong linear pull .
If you’re never in the dunes or drag racing 24/7 you’ll never regret the 135.

@@joekearney Thank you a lot for this reply, this is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I was initially looking at 1000r NA older models but think that this DS 135 would be perfect sportiness coming from a quad. Ill check out your drag race too!

I recently purchased this machine. I previously owned an RS1, which I absolutely loved, I truly believe it is probably the best all round trail machine that was on the market. I haven’t had a lot of time in the DS but so far I am very impressed. I ride east coast trails and the 135 turbo is more power and you can definitely feel that difference and the SHOWA suspension is amazing. Needed a two seater and this was my pick! No regrets at this point. What soundbar was pictured in the video?

Interesting! More HP in the Maverick and it is a turbo, and uses a CVT. Not sure what appeals to you and not sure what your dealer has available for you either.

Are the 23 models seeing any minor or major differences from the 24 models? I found a 23 with a huge manufacture rebate and not sure if there really are any differences. 17K before taxes and freight.

Put a 2” spacer behind the steering wheel that would allow you to move back couple inches.

These looks like a great machine - but (like every manufacturer) they need to knock about $5k off the price before they are reasonable. It’s not just a BRP thing - even CF-Moto are no longer good value. Although I will admit the dealer advertised prices on Polaris RZR XP 1000 are coming way down compared this the msrp on these and they are 90% as good.

After the reveal of the CFMoto Z1, this Maverick looks antique and skimpy on features. To be fair, the entire industry was put on notice, the have to step it up.
Watching Can Am squeeze another year out of this 2017 design is painful to watch.
