Did I actually just see this? No "just make these seventeen cuts to get five pieces,? No "I learned this from an old Indian in Saskatchewan!" No complicated nonsense at all. Just a sharp knife and a clear idea of what to do with it. Thank you Gina.
Thanks so much for this video, when I was in Canada several times we threw back hundreds of pike of course walleye is the best eating, but what you did it looks like the meat is probably almost as good as the walleye thanks for this video
She is pretty handy with that knife GUYS ! 🙂 I have been doing the 5 fillet method for years but I'm going to try her way next time . A very sharp knife is key here . Thanks for the video , I hate wasting pike meat and this method looks good !
Thank you Gina, using your method I finally successfully filleted a northern I caught up in the Boundary Waters two weeks ago, after years of butchering the poor things.
Last year I got it wrong. Now looking at your video as like 5th in the queue. I'm impressed. no waste! no magic. Great technique. Thank you! this is the skill I was looking for.
after all my years of cleaning pike and watching other people do it i am going to use your method. this is probably the least wasteful and easiest way that ive seen. thank you
A lot of people get discouraged from eating pike because of the Y Bone but you have done a terrific job on it. Pike is great in a deep fryer and some people prefer it more than Walleye. And Pike are plentiful in Ontario everywhere.
Very talented cutting. Great demonstration . BTW, northern pike scraps with bones can be pickled... The process of brining and soaking in vinegar dissolves bones in 48 hours
Just tried Gina's method and I was a lot slower then Her! but it worked great! Gina has done this a lot and I can tell by how she instinctively knew the angle of the bones but you can feel and hear the knife hit the bones. I am going to use this method from now on and I will just get better (Practice is key) Thank you Gina ! it really pays to use a thinner profile knife and keep it sharp
This is the best video I've ever seen on how to debone or clean a pike, I have seen quite a few but none will just kind of efficiency. Or beauty oh, the first thing that you had me on was when you got done cutting the filets off you did not touch them with your slimy hands, you washed your hands and your knife and squeegee the board that right there was impressive. Whatever guy you have I hope he knows what kind of a good woman he has
Very well done northern pike filleting and very little waste. She took y-bones off with extremely little waste, which needs quite a lot practising. Skinning was perfectly made. Just a way like my mentor did who was 7 times fish handling champion in Scandinavia. I do a lot filleting pikes, trout, salmon, perch......etc, during fishing season, here in Northern Finnish Lapland. CONGRATULATIONS 😊😊
Dang that’s the smoothest neatest and quickest way I’ve seen someone fillet a pike I did allot of bottom fish and salmon when I worked on a charter boat but they are simple fish compared to those pike 🤙 awesome job
Hey gina awesome job !!! I like the way you take out the fin i havr been cleaning fish fod 35 years and qlways hated desling eith the gins on a pike your video has taught me q great new way to fillet my pike
Hello ! Question if that northern was say twice that size or about would you still cut through the rib bones the same as you did this one you did here. The one you fillet’d here looks like the good eaters. Geez I just seen this was from six years ago but the best tutorial for me….
Good job. Super sharp knifes. Its been a long time since i have eaten northern pike. I think im gonna try it using your way of cutting. I forgot how a pike taste. Cant wait til i get one.
She makes this look so easy. I watch this video every time now before I clean a Northern. I don't do it nearly as fast, or as clean. I'm getting better, but nowhere near as good as she does it.
It looks fairly self-explanatory and much easier to filet than bass are. It seems to be almost exactly like fileting a trout or a salmon, though salmonid pin bones are slightly more perpendicular to the spine, making them a bit easier to remove than the pike's "y-bones." On the other hand, it looks like it's easier to sever the ribs from the spine of a pike than it is on a big trout, and definitely easier to get under the skin with the knife, to grab and hold the skin, and to remove it from the flesh. When you cut all the way through the skin at the tail, I thought you were just going to leave it on there. I realize the probability that with the combination of your razor sharp knives, natural talent, and skill honed by years of experience, you probably make it look a lot easier than it would be for most people to do. If you've been fileting fish for seventeen years, did you start when you were a toddler? You don't look a day over 20, at the most. Great technique and great video.
Fan-F'ing-tastic! Thank you sister, awesome video and I appreciate the knowledge you have disseminated. As a side note, some of the most efficient fish cleaning I have ever seen in my life!
Very impressive skills...First time I've seen a knife zip through rib bones as fast as my electric fillet knife, which I thought was the greatest invention since the cordless drill...
When I was growing up in Michigan my father and Uncle would come in from the fishing to clean the day's catch on the dock. I would marvel at the people that would come to watch them clean the Pike, Walleye and whatever. They were so fast and efficient and the campground loved too watch them. Good times!!!
Awesome Video!!! I have watched a ton of them. If I might suggest a second video for beginners. Slower and explain even the details that seem obvious. Possibly do it with someone that has never done it before. Again, Awesome video.
Bigger pike have a row of bones by there tail also. Besides the Y bones. So there would need to be another small little section cut out. Do you ever remove those bones?
Yes, let's talk about boning. I am getting better at it but occasionally I miss one or two spots that later get put in my face ... Pickerels are the worst because of their smaller size.
My hat goes off to you ...great job ... iv been cleaning fish for 30 years and can clean a northern pretty good if I do say so myself....but you did that effortlessly... good on ya 👍🤙
Did I actually just see this? No "just make these seventeen cuts to get five pieces,? No "I learned this from an old Indian in Saskatchewan!" No complicated nonsense at all. Just a sharp knife and a clear idea of what to do with it. Thank you Gina.
I know a guy in Flin Flon who.....
The accent makes this video complete!
Probably the best video I have found for pike fillets, well done Gina!
No! That's bullshit.
This is the best tutorial I've seen so far for removing Y-bones from Northern Pike.
I've been doing the same method over 45 years and you do a great job as you do. You are awesome.🎉
I've never seen a pike filleted that efficiently. Great job and thank you for the info.
This the best that I have ever seen a N. Pike cleaned boneless. She did a super job. Also loved how sharp her knives were.
Thanks so much for this video, when I was in Canada several times we threw back hundreds of pike of course walleye is the best eating, but what you did it looks like the meat is probably almost as good as the walleye thanks for this video
There's Northern Pike all over Canada here, and this is the best video I've came across on how to filet a Pike. Good job 👍
She is pretty handy with that knife GUYS ! 🙂 I have been doing the 5 fillet method for years but I'm going to try her way next time . A very sharp knife is key here . Thanks for the video , I hate wasting pike meat and this method looks good !
Nice work! That's exactly how I was taught & I always watch this when I prepare for my annual pike trip to the sandhills. Good eatin!
Thank you Gina, using your method I finally successfully filleted a northern I caught up in the Boundary Waters two weeks ago, after years of butchering the poor things.
I usually use the 5 fillet method which does go well for larger pike. I find your method has alot less waste. I will try this. Thank you so much.
The best Y bone removal on Pike I have ever seen!
Last year I got it wrong. Now looking at your video as like 5th in the queue. I'm impressed. no waste! no magic. Great technique. Thank you! this is the skill I was looking for.
This is the best pike fillet video on RUclips. I am impressed.

Amazing tutorial there Gina, got to be the best method I have ever seen thanks and greetings from Lithuania

Absolutely the best video about deboning pike fillets!! Awesome!! No waste at all!! Best of luck and thanks!

Thinking you learned from your dad growing up.... I tip my hat to you, and him. Very impressive and very helpful!
Gina I'm 60 years old and have never cleaned a northern pike . Used your method and it worked perfect !! Thank you !!!
That's bullshit. You still have to study and study......
A very competent filleting job and a well made video, thanks. The guy with the 5 piece cleaning method would probably benefit from watching this one.
Never liked the five cut method!!! Seen a lot of meat wasted with that!!
Best video yet. Good teaching
Yeah the 5 cut wastes meat but if you got 15 pikes to clean and 2 minutes to clean em, it's better
Very well done northern pike filleting and very little waste. She took y-bones off with extremely little waste, which needs quite a lot practising. Skinning was perfectly made. Best tutorial , watched many, but this one made me understand the technique
Nicely done Gina! Fantastic tutorial

Nice job, when I was a boy my dad could only dream of doing this good. Always had bones.
Gina just found this 😊 you are the best.
Very good that’s by far the best method I’ve ever seen!
Good job. Super sharp knifes. Its been a long time since i have eaten northern pike. I think im gonna try it using your way of cutting. I forgot how a pike taste. Cant wait til i get one.
Gina, you truly are a master at cleaning a pike. The best. I follow your method. Thank you very much
She makes this look so easy. I watch this video every time now before I clean a Northern. I don't do it nearly as fast, or as clean. I'm getting better, but nowhere near as good as she does it.
Thank you! You got right to the point, clear and simple instructions.
the best demonstration ever ! I have a 32" to practice with this morning when it thaws out
Thank you for the demonstration you make it look easy now I need to go catch a pike and try it myself
I have been watching videos on how to do this for a little while now. I must have seen 50. You mam, are a bad ass!. I will use this method.
Best method I’ve seen yet! Will b tryin that da next pike I get!
Great job! Beautifully done without a tear in the fillet
Wow, I’m going out to catch some pike tomorrow!!! What an amazing video…
This is by far the best filleting of a Northern I have ever seen
Nice job! That’s the best way to remove y bone. My Grandfather taught me this method. (I’m still working perfecting it though) haha.
I’m impressed she didn’t cut herself. Looks like a very sharp knife(s) 😊. I would need butcher gloves…. lol. Great job Gina.
Excellent, Thank's Gina! What a pedagogic skill how to prepare a pike boneless. Now I know how to do this.
Thanks for the demonstration. You made that look easy
Great tutorial! Nice close up shot of the work.
Seen this method many times but that was the quickest with least amount of waste while teaching. Pro…thanks.

Really good the best I have ever seen. Carry on. Thanks 😊
Best tutorial on RUclips for filleting Pike
Exceptional knife skills you have and a great demonstration. Can you tell us the brand name of your knives again and thanks.
You do it the best I’ve ever seen😊
Your a true artist with a knife 😊
Bestes Video wo ich je gesehen habe, unglaublich diese Technik so filigran, die Messerführung wow, bin verliebt!❣️🤝❣️🍀😃
Superb tutorial. Not one wasted knife stroke.
Gina you’re gonna make a good man so happy!!!! I’d love it if my wife cleaned fish like you just did !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very impressive! Great knife skills!
Man this chick got some serious knife skills. Chapeau!
Wow! I don't think I'll ever be that fast, but I can't wait to catch a northern so I can try this! Great video!
Hi Gina ! You've been cleaning fish for 17 years !? You must have been two when you started ? Lol :-) Well, great job and great video!
Wow you are really good with a knife. I always do the 3 piece method.
Best filleting video, I have seen.
Well done young lady! Never liked seeing people doing the five cut process! Do the same process on my salmon.
Like the UP CLOSE Camera work. NICE 😃
I figured out the first part on my own because its similar to many other fish, but northern have that second layer thanks for the instruction.
That looks pretty slick!
Thank you for showing me this.😉
You make that look way too easy. This is pro-level fish cleaning.
That young lady knows her way around a fillet knife! Very impressive!
Fan-F'ing-tastic! Thank you sister, awesome video and I appreciate the knowledge you have disseminated. As a side note, some of the most efficient fish cleaning I have ever seen in my life!
The best advice I've seen for Y bones on here is to do pickling as a method. So the bones soften up when you pickle them.
Very impressive skills...First time I've seen a knife zip through rib bones as fast as my electric fillet knife, which I thought was the greatest invention since the cordless drill...
Electric knife sucks
@@MrRafterPL yours or electric knife in general. Mine worked great
Excellent tutorial and knife skills!
I'm in love great job! simple without bragging!
She cuts with the best of them !😅 Great job
Awesome quick and effective great video, putting the guys to shame
You have great knife skills.
Liked and subscribed. Excellent tutorial on the process. Thanks
Most efficient way I have ever witnessed fileting a northern pike those pin bones are a real bear to remove cleanly nice job 👏 👍
Where can both fillet knives be purchased?
A+ Excellent knife skills. Nicely done!
On your first cut i doubt on your experience but on second cut i was Amazed
Great job. Northern are challenging. I have done that but not as clean. Would rather do Walleye, the best tasting fish anywhere.
Wish I learned this when we were in the prairies, picking bones out of cooked fish was a real drag, good thing we had plenty of PBR's to go with !
You should be a surgeon. I have fileted another of fish in my day and you do the best job I've ever seen.
When I was growing up in Michigan my father and Uncle would come in from the fishing to clean the day's catch on the dock. I would marvel at the people that would come to watch them clean the Pike, Walleye and whatever. They were so fast and efficient and the campground loved too watch them. Good times!!!
17 years? Those fish must be spotless
Awesome Video!!! I have watched a ton of them. If I might suggest a second video for beginners. Slower and explain even the details that seem obvious. Possibly do it with someone that has never done it before. Again, Awesome video.
Good job, what time is supper ?
Wow, your good. I never saw a northern pike fillet
so quickly.
PARDON MY LANGUAGE BUT THAT WAS PHUCKING AMAZING!!!!! Thank you so much for the tutorial!!!
All I can say is WOW! Great Job 👍

My hat goes off to you ...great job ... iv been cleaning fish for 30 years and can clean a northern pretty good if I do say so myself....but you did that effortlessly... good on ya 👍🤙
Excellent job!!!
Crazy skills! Got some good tips I will try to use
