this method does work well and I use it often. A pair of gloves does help tremendously with holding the fish and pulling the fins though. Even one glove on one hand just for handling and pulling the fins helps and using the ungloved hand to separate the skin. The gloved hand really helps.
I wish you guys would scale them and keep the skins, they make really good bacon strips. I coat them in flour and panko and fry them up. It's so crispy I love it. I do this with other fish too.
Wow really cool, never seen it done this way. I'll be going for some perch, crappie and smallmouth tomorrow. If I get any nice ones or jumbo perch like that one I'll try this. I usually get some nice ones at this Reservoir.
todays lesson: new way to clean a fish. that is very cool, i usually filet them. I'll give it a try and I'll let you know how it went. thanks for the tutorial.
@tim8938 It looks like European Perch out there. Similar to a Yellow Perch only larger in size. Anything over 1lb is a good perch around here. Still, nice catch!
This is a very good way of cleaning perch so you get the maximum of meat off of it after you cook it all you have to do is just pull the rib out kind of looks like a centipede.
Would you consider doing a cooking/eating video with those fish? I assume you do not eat those bones, and, I personally refuse to pick through cooked fish to remove them, so I fillet all of mine. I'd like to see how you handle them after they come out of the fryer please? i can always learn something new! Thanks in advance!!
I may consider doing that. The meat falls right off the bones when cooked. Trimming the ribs leaves thicker bones so it’s just the spine and ribs when picked clean.
Well done. After you cut those ribs with the scissors, is there any bones left in the actual filets that need to be concerned of? or does cutting those ribs remove them all?
The only bones left are the spine and the thick part of the ribs. There are no tiny bones left by the time this process is completed, and the meat falls off the bones easily once cooked. Cheers!
Thanks my boyfriend caught a bunch of small ones and he use a fork to scale. It got all the scales in my backyard on the ground. I asked him to remove the skin and he said he likes to fry it with the skin on. I don’t think I wanna try it
Seen an Eskimo dude use the same method..in my state u can only use the non edibile parts of a perch..seems the final product of what this guy throws away wud work as a fine lil bait for pike
When you cut the rib bones with the scissors are you leaving some rib bones behind? It sounded like you're cutting through bones. Is this a boneless fillet you're making
It doesn’t make it boneless, but it takes out a lot of the fine bones in the lower portions of the ribs. Easy to pick the meat off the bones once cooked.
This seems like a sure way to get spiked or pierced or sliced in your fingers. Not a way I would be going about preparing fillets. Great looking sized perch tho
Perch eggs cause alot arguing in my house. Normally person whos Cook try to sneak few. Just roll your breading and deep fry twice as long as the meat .. want them cooked thru nice brown crisp coating
DUDE …… if that blade gets even a bit dull and SLIPS ……. Not worth an ED Trip to Your local Hospital 🏥 !!!!!! Definitely a different take on cleaning Perch ✨🎣💫
I’ve been told I should use a shorter knife for cleaning perch to have more control. I always try to keep my knives very sharp. Hopefully I don’t have any trips to the hospital this year after cleaning a fish. 🎣
Sorry but I would never ruin a good perch like this. Perch should be scaled and butterflied period. Is it more work? Sure, but once you've done enough it can be done very quickly and efficiently. Not to mention..... YUMMY!
Too many bones left. Boneless filets are the only way to fry perch. They should be completely removed. Much better eating experience when you dont yave to dig through a nice crispy fried perch filet. Also not as quick as fileting a perch. I could clean a perch boneless and skinless much faster.
@@johnnylinfield3809 just use a fork to pick the meat off the bones. It pretty much falls off the bone. May lose a little breading on one side, but still delicious.
Yea, I’ll agree that I’m not going to win any speed competitions, the point is that you’re not getting fish guts all over your freshly cleaned meat. There’s definitely more than one way to skin a perch. I’d love to see your method if you have a video you can link.
20 seconds per is not unheard of, in fact the way I do mine might meet those standards, no, I don’t have a video to upload. I think the OP’s method is fine, just not what I’m used to, I prefer skinless fillets, definitely don’t get as much meat as his method, but to each his own.
That's a pretty cool way of doin a fish. I've never seen it like that. But I like my boneless fillets.
👍
Man! I thought I was gonna have to gut and then filet 80 perch! 😂 Your method is gonna save me a lot of work!
Thank you so much, this was absolutely awesome. I'll never clean a fish any other way.
My son caught one and I had to clean my first fish , thanks to your great video instructions It was super easy . Thank you
He filleted it in such a weird way though

Great advice! I’ll give it a try next time.
This method has been around a long time good you are showing it again
👍

Well, this is totally different of all other method I have seem. Very good. I like it. Thanks. Tony R

Awesome!! And now I know how to clean Perch, THANKS Tree stand Man!!🥰
Anytime! 🎣
Tnks broo i just follow your lead andd clear all my fishes ❤
Thank you so much. I think you just saved me a lot of time here.
I hope my finger are up to the task.
Have a great day.
Some disposable latex gloves might save your fingers.
Caught my first 4 Perch yesterday and i was so mad about those scales 😂 Smoked them now because of that, but thats a really good way to get the fillet

We use an electric filet knife and a skinzit. Fast and bone free. Your method is pretty cool. No right or wrong way. Whatever you like.

Let me know how it goes! It falls off the bones and very little meat is wasted. Thanks for watching!
Can I ask if the fish was chilled before starting to clean it?
Of course, they were chilled, but not frozen.
caught my first perch today 1.4kg(3lbs) thanks for the tip, hope it works.

thanks for the video, will be trying this method tomorrow! catching alot of perch! Never seen this done before! Looks easier to get all the meat.
Good luck!
Instead of grabbing the dorsal fin with your fingers, grab it between your thumb and the blade of your knife and pull. Zips right out.
Good tip, thanks!
what kind of scissors are those?
The brand is Wiss. They are great!
Reminds me of The Sandlot "And he ate him, bones and all, and he liked it!"

And just like that I’m now watching The Sandlot…lol. Thank you sir.

Check out Rogers’s Rig’s video on cleaning perch, that guy is like a race car driver with his filet knife lol
Roger’s fast. I’ve seen his video before. I’ll need some practice to keep up with him!
Seen an Eskimo dude use the same method..in my state u can only use the non edibile parts of a perch..seems the final product of what this guy throws away wud work as a fine lil bait for pike
That's my plan for those pike for sure. I usually hook a few perch first anyway, before the monster pike.
Is perch skin good to eat?
Not particularly…it’s pretty rough. I’m sure if it was de-scaled it may be edible, but I have always done skinless.
A friend gave me some perch yesterday, so im trying to find an easy way to get to the meat & this seems good. I'll give it a try. Thanks.
Good luck! Hope it works out for you.
This fish has unbelievable skin.
Perch? I’ve never tried it.

OUTSTANDING.
What method do you use to kill the fish?
Perch generally freeze quickly when placed outside on the ice.

Will this work with walleye too?
I think it would work on smaller walleye, but honestly I’ve never tried it. I’ll give it a try this year and let you know!
Oh, hey, this is grand! Can't wait to freak out the old dudes with this method...hee! hee! Thanks much.

That works too 👍

Might be quick but lots of bones left. Also if you think that first one was big you've never caught an adult ;)
1st thing you save are the eggs. & use a smaller knife.
Thanks for the tip. I’ve never tried the eggs, how do you cook them?
@@treestandmanoutdoors most people batter them up just like fillets and fry them
