KRULL!. I've listened this soundtrak everyday recently. This music blow my mind. Since I was 8 years until now. When I saw this movie in 1983, I did not realise this sountrack captured me forever. this is awesome. Make me feel great!
Rest In Peace, King James Horner. You're version of Krull and Aliens will always be the best. I loved Beastmaster. May your music guide you on your magical journey.
This movie is bonkers. The story sprawls out and goes all over the place; the bad guy is under-utilized; not everything that goes on makes sense. HOWEVER. "Krull" is a grade-A blast, deserving of far more love than it seems to get. It's never boring, the characters are engaging, the visuals are lovely, the concept sparks the imagination and did I mention that it's fun on a bun? Goes to show ya that technical perfection alone does not a good movie make -- this movie entertains, excites, and amuses, all with its own style, doin' its own thing. Can't ask for better than that. Four stars; Doc Rotwang! sez check it out.
the same goes for Conan the Barbarian too. Cheesy-campy swords-sandals parody-like B-movie + Basil Poledouris' awesome Miklós Rózsa-like epic score = WOW
Star Trek 2, Cocoon, Battle Beyond the Star, Aliens, Braveheart. What a tremendous CV!! Such great and beautiful pieces of work that captured the atmosphere of each and every movie. James you'll be sorely missed. RIP
Not to mention Star Trek 3 / Commando / Cocoon / An American Tail / The Land Before Time / Willow / Red Heat / Glory / The Rocketeer / Legends of the Fall / Unlawful Entry / Titanic / The Mask of Zorro / How the Grinch Stole Christmas / A Beautiful Mind / House of Sand & Fog / Troy!
The main title wasn't on the original soundtrack album, and when we finally got the expanded score, hearing this for the first time in years was like time travel to a more innocent and magical year. The moment at 1:40 when those incandescent strokes on the strings began, channeling the fire mares, I thought I was going to lose it. And just when a lesser main title might be winding down, at 3:06, Horner doubled down on the grandeur. It isn't often that a fantasy film begins working magic on the audience before its first scene, but pure magic is what we have here.
Battle Beyond the Stars, Rocketeer, Krull, Star Trek I, Star Trek II, and Star Trek III all use the same music, just revamped to personalize each movie. Star Trek II's soundtrack knocked my socks off when I first heard it, and so it was a little weird hearing bits and pieces of it in other soundtracks. But now I have totally different out look on it and I love it. By re-using these incidental pieces in multiple movies, it gives our universe its own consistent soundtrack, and each time I hear strains of this music in a different movie I feel comfortable and at home. No two soundtracks are identical, yet they have a warm familiarity. It now makes each movie more exciting and personal.
Man, the choir at the start of this piece always gives me chills. According to the liner notes in the LaLaLand Records release of this, it represents "the legacy of the ancient world of Krull". I love how it immediately evokes exactly that feeling - of this ancient and mysterious place full of unknown wonders. If only more stories were set in the Krull universe - films, TV shows, novels, comics, games, anything!
I love the back bass notes suggest a very dark sinister place. Then the beautiful.female voice come i. Suggesting a light in the dark. Even a call for help from light. Then the horns soumd as if a calling to arms as the orchestra slowly over powers the dark back tones. And finally at 1:12 its as if a hero has emerged and is being glorified. Then the soring high strings like he is riding on the wind to the rescue. And next is like a galloping type of sound and I imagine him charging on horse back to fight. Idk thats how I hear it everytime. As if the land called him and he came
This theme dearly departed James Roy Horner composed for Krull in 1983 reminds me of his theme that he composed for the 2nd Star Trek original series movie the year before in 1982.
You know, after thirty years, this is still one of favourite pieces of film music. It takes me right back to being a kid again, just like that. It totally captures that spirit of imagination and adventure that you have when you go to the movies.
RIP you genius! I love your early 80's sci-fi and fantasy themes. From Krull, to Battle Beyond the Stars and Cocoon to Star Trek. I'm hoping you are writing beautiful music in heaven.
"This it was given me to know. That many worlds have been enslaved by the Beast and his army, The Slayers. This too was given me to know. That one day the Beast would come to our world. The world of Krull. And the smoke of burning villages would darken the sky. And the crys of the dying would echo through the land. But the one thing I cannot know, whether the prophecy be true. That a girl of ancient name shall become queen. She shall choose a king. And together they shall rule our world. And their son shall rule the galaxy."
The bearded king of orchestral scores. One of the finest compositions ever~ One of the first scores I ever bought, and now I compose film music. Maybe one day I'll score the re-boot. Cheers!
Sheer magical memories of this film and its soundtrack as a child of the 80's. James Horner's themes have always pulled on my heart strings and have given me goosebumps. I play this soundtrack whilst driving in my car which makes me chuckle as I feel very important! .........THE LAND BEFORE TIME........now there's another beautiful soundtrack of his..........
James Horner will ALWAYS be my favorite composer of ALL TIME! Yes, he did repeat himself somewhat, but everyone repeats themselves in some way. Hans Zimmer's themes and often very brief and similar to other themes he's written, and don't even get me started on John Williams. What matters is that the music is good, and with Horner it always is.
As Powerful As A Kingdom Is The Brilliance Of The Master Of This Fine Timeless Musical Piece ....... I Salute The Upper Echelon Of Fine Geniuses That Marked The 80's Cinematic Creativity In Great Soundtracks!
Prince Colwyn (Actor Ken Marshall) : The reward is freedom... and fame! Torquil: Freedom? We have it! And fame? Nah. It's an empty purse. Count it, go broke. Eat it, go hungry. Seek it, go mad!
A lackluster and derivative script, but beautifully filmed with a great art department and a spectacular, magnificent score by James Horner. The actors, well, didn't have much to work with.
Oddly enough, this medieval sci fi was the most successful of the Star Wars clones in it’s execution. A great adventure film that wasn’t ruined by sequels. And what a score!
The music score was really good and the movie wasn't too bad either! The "Widow in the Web" was really intriguing, wish we could've learned more about her.
Only the 1980s could give you a film where an army of laser weilding aliens, commanded by a shapeshifting gorilla, attack the world of Skyrim. All while an incredible soundtrack plays in the background.
I will watch this anytime to enjoy the music. James Horner's simple phrasing and motif approach produce incredibly catchy fun heroic scores. I've seen people downing him for copying other composers, however, writing variations on a theme by (insert composer) is a centuries old custom. In addition he isn't writing a stand-alone symphony. The score overwhelming the film would be ridiculous.
Gods no. No no no no no no no. They would only screw it up. The number of good remakes of old movies is far overshadowed by the number of horrible horrible cinematic turds that crap all over the originals. They'd likely ruin all the things that make this such a classic in favour of trying to make it "gritty" and "dark". Some films just need to be left alone.
James Horner's score for this is so good that it makes the whole movie better. I feel so exhilarated that I overlook the film's many flaws (like casting Ken Marshall and dubbing Lysette Anthony's voice), things that would not doubt be more apparent with a less thrilling score.
For me there are THREE soundtracks, and one piece of a fourth, that MADE James Horner my favourite Composer: KRULL; WILLOW; STAR TREK II and the theme "Michael's Gift To Karen" from BRAINSTORM. He IS the best. I still can´t accept the fact that he is gone....

Whenever I listen to those classic Horner soundtracks I feel like a child again. Rest in peace James.
This soundtack is too good to even exist. Best soundtack ever. For real.

R.I.P. James Horner.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the most hauntingly and unapologetically epic piece of orchestral magic ever written.
RIP JH.
Well, 50% of it is Star Trek II, and a third of it is Battle Beyond the Stars. 😏😂
Did you ever listen to his score of Legend? That’s on par with this one.
@@jonahfalcon1970 Listen to 633 squadron Horner ripped the theme completely lol

Gabriel Galban the soundtrack brought this film to life!
Horner was just 29 when he wrote this score.
I’m only a teenager, but the 80s sound like an amazing time to live in. Great movies, soundtracks, and music. I love it.
You are wise.
It was awesome. I wish I could go back to 1980, and start the decade all over again. 😊😊😊
The pop culture had to be as awesome as it was to karmically offset how terrible Reagan was.
