      I grew up in rural England, it was important when the cows were being herded down the 'B' roads to another field that they were not allowed to stop when the wild garlic was present in the hedgerows, otherwise the milk would be spoiled and could not be sold.

      huh? in that manner it's the same way the show's always been. you're seeing 29 minutes cut down from like 3.5 hours, it's edited up the wazoo. so for the sake of an even sounding flow across shots, the sound has to be somewhat modified. It's not just that they're manufacturing laughter out of whole cloth that was withheld by the audience on the day.

    • @cptblood

      @@kevinw712 wait…this show is 3.5 hours and this isn’t the full show? Fml!!! Where do I find full shows?

    • @kevinw712
      @kevinw712 Год назад +13

      @@cptblood oh shit no, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get your hopes up with the wrong idea. What I meant was, generally with a UK comedy panel show, like the entirety of them being there on the studio floor is a good 3 hours, but that's including everything. like any of the down time between turns where maybe lights or makeup needs to be reset. So there is no "3 hour version" that exists for broadcast. Traditionally with WILTY (as far as I know) every panelist gets at least one go, in fact I think each one gets two, and that's aside from the "this is my round". And then depending on the results of each of those turns, that's how an individual episode gets shaped. like I've seen lots of people always react from a really good portion in the "unseen clips" episode at the end of each series go "how could THAT not have made it into the original cut??" But it's not about quality, not necessarily. It's just as much if not more about timing. They may have one episode with an especially great single round by a panelist that they don't want to cut down too much, so it could make another equally funny but shorter turn have to get cut to make the 30 minute limit for that episode, but that's what the "unseen clips" episode is for. There's lots of other factors for why a particular panelist's go doesn't make it into the "proper" episode that's nothing to do with how funny it was.
      if it helps, think of it this way -- QI has their "XL" episodes that are like 42ish minutes long (whereas the original broadcast ones are like 30). WILTY kinda does the same thing, they just save all of those extra good bits from each single episode and put them into one big compilation at the end of each series.

      @@kevinw712 interesting! Thank you for replying! I did expect some editing, but not from like 3 hours :). And it does make sense that everyone gets a go and we are just seeing best bits.

      The so called "good teeth" credit stems from the British having awful teeth from inbreeding. Not particularly good dental care by Americans but less inbreeding/crooked abominations in comparison.
