Hi Reble! This isn't really related to the video but I'm 18 and just came out as lesbian and just wanted to thank you and your girlfriend for being such a power couple. There isn't much representation in media of lesbian relationships (except if it's fetishized) and for some reason I feel like that really created a block in my head and made it seem like it wasn't possible for me to ever be in that sort of relationship and made it seem like a hetero relationship was all that was in reach. Seeing such a loving, caring and supportive relationship like yours really opened my heart up to the idea that I could be gay and not asexual as I always thought I was. Just thank you, so much. Accepting my real feelings was like knocking off a thousand pounds of weight off my soul and if I didn't have you to look up to in the past year idk how long it would have taken for me to get here.♥️♥️♥️
Now I just gotta get over my crippling fear of pretty girls 👉👈😳

I'M PROUD OF YOU... no one answered this and I felt like someone should have said something... It's 10 months later but.... 👉🏽👈🏽... anyway... I don't know you but I'm proud of you.
I hope everything goes well in your life and you found love, I hope a pretty girl helped you overcome that fear and last but not least I hope you're happy.

I’m sure they would have responded if they’d seen it. Congratulations on your latest self discovery. We’re always learning things on our life journey and sometimes it’s about ourselves. I think those can be the best things to learn, or at least the most productive things. Now you can live your best life, authentically. I can’t help you with the pretty girl thing though, I have an attraction to intimidating women, who are, funnily enough, *intimidating* 😅

I have ADHD and I live in Australia (I've never seen a squirrel irl) and I had to show my partner one specific part of the video because I was laughing at myself and also proud because I was focusing on the video and then got super distracted by the squirrels and had to rewind! 'oh look squirrel' is apparently an ADHD right of passage I'd always felt left out of until today!!!

Maybe a more "advanced"/troubleshooting transition video? I can transition reliably, but it doesn't feel smooth and I lose significant momentum. Also, maybe one foot transitions? (it's a thing in ice skating but idk if it's possible in roller skates because you don't have a rocker point in the middle of your skate to pivot on)

wow! this has been the most informative transition video yet! thank you!!! I definitely need to stretch my hip flexors because that is where I've been struggling the most - that is, getting my feet to sit in a straight line next to one another. Another super helpful tip was the "stagger your feet" - while I had been doing this when skating, I didn't think to do it for transitioning. Can't wait to try again with this new information! THANK YOUU THANK YOUU!!

I’ve *never* 😳 heard anyone address the importance of being able to open up the hips and how helpful it can be to know how to balance, even just for a second, one one foot.
So many tutorials, while well meaning, just show the foot work and dont address that there may be other things at play that need consideration🤷🏼‍♀️

I appreciate your channel as its so uplifting. Back in my teens, I used to do splits on roller skates, spin and all that stuff. My kiddos didn't believe me until I pulled out the pics. Lol - Had my right ACL reconstructed in 07/1991 and then again in 09/2010. Since then, I've been very cautious about jam skating due to the instability of my lateral collateral ligament in right knee. Had it evaluated numerous times and docs all agree if there's no pain, inflammation and doesn't interfer with quality of life, then don't fix it, just wear supportive devices. Fast forward, I've been skating forward/backwards and moving arms/hips. My passion is to truly return to jam skating but cautiously as I KNOW I can't revive my glory years. Thing is ... despite being able to jog, walk long distances and do other stuff, I sometimes become paralyzed by my fear of re-injuring my right knee. Especially since I've managed to work around my slightly unstable ligament. However, jam skating requires more flexibility and I am at a loss re: how to revive my love/passion for the rink.

If anyone needs some good hip flexor streches, one is the butterfly strech where you put the soles of your feet together! You can sit like this or bend over if you want! You can also gently press your knees because the goal is to get your knees to touch the ground while your feet and bottom stay on the floor! Hope this helps :)

I’m trying so hard to transition! I’ve been skating for two months and I just can’t get the hang of it😭whenever I start to transition on the one foot, my other foot gets lost and drags behind! It might be a mind over matter situation as I’m not the best as skating backwards, your videos have been really helpful, ive played this video at least five times this week!!!

Thank you so much for the explanation about left/right foot dominant movements. Please help, I don't know how to use toe stops and it's frustrating because I feel like they trip me up more than they help me stop. I rely on forward bubbles to help me slow down and stop.

London Fleurina same, when I was learning 180s I instantly turned to my left not my right, but crossovers are so awkward and terrible on my left...weird.

Great video, thanks! I can kinda do transitions but I'm not smooth and don't feel too stable, I'm going to try bending my knees more, staggering my feet and doing those hip stretches! I have over active hip flexors so should help with that too 😁

About the dominant foot thing, i am a messed up person or maybe its the equestrian in me. I am right handed and my right foot i would call dominant in that its the one i want to do things with however my weight is on my left. Equestrians do mount the horse using the left leg so it feels like my weight bearing leg. Now that could also be me being messed up because chiropractor confirmed and being treated for, my right leg is shorter due to my pelvis being misaligned (riding accidents) and it takes a while to get that realignment back since its been this way so long undiagnosed. Also they have scales they check your balance and i literally put more weight on my left leg than my right. In the beginning I put 118 pounds on the left 89 on the right, my last 20 apt check i was at 112 left 103 right so huge improvement.
I just started trying to learn skating after that apt to help with my balance retraining so the changes in my body are quite overwhelming at times,.. like i feel disoriented in my perception of where my foot is. I also am using a wobble board, which i started first and was so impressed using it with chiro, i then thought about it and decided to learn skating to help as well.
Took me 2 days to be able to stand up in the skates. Day 1 i almost stripped half the flesh of my butt clear off my skeleton. That was trying to stand from a chair, NEVER AGAIN. So next day i tried standing from the ground and 45 minutes sweat streaming down me I finally got my feet under me but could not straighten up, i was bent over holding onto a low padded stool, and thats as far as i got. The muscles in my low back where i always have pain were just shaking, like literally shaking and vibrating as i was trying to stand in the skates. Just goes to show how much work i need retraining my body.
Anyways its been 3 weeks, I had to get broom sticks to use as walking sticks to help me balance in the skates, while not recommended i was just that unable to balance. I worked on bubbles because i still cannot lift one foot and balance on the other in the skates. I can barefoot,… but not in the skates. I try to just pop up the skates as a drill one at a time, but its brutal for me however i am proud to say i can now officially get up off the ground without my sticks. I can go forward doing bubbles, and backwards about 3 bubbles before i panic and feel vertigo. Again without my sticks. Took weeks but i got there. I am better doing circles counter clockwise because I can put weight on left, but i then do same number the other way and its harder because again i want to keep weight on the left but the right needs to lead.
So,…. I am improving. I am better at managing to skate over the floor cracks (concrete shop floor) and i even tripped and fell over a crack (i swear its barely un-level but its the Grand Canyon for me) i fell in good controlled form, did not hurt, i was fairly calm during and after it was just an oops, well dang moment, the safety stuff did their job, and i got back up and kept going. I can only do about 10 minutes before my back is aching or screaming (a sure sign i need an adjustment) but the forcing those muscles to work is making my low back much less painful for regular daily life. I am gardening more comfortably now, i can bend over and clean the tub, pick stuff up. Still painful but i can do it which means mobility is developing and that also helps reduce the pain.
So yeah,…. I am messed up, i want to put my weight on the left, but i swear or if i try lifting my feet the right one has the better chance of being lifted. If running forward my right foot steps forward first which i am told means right foot dominant. But with my back,……. And history riding horses i think I qualify as left dominant now? Well either way I practice everything both ways because i am re building my body from long term health issues. Man i off loaded. Ok I’ll shut up now, thank you for the videos!

Thanks for pointing out that using the pivot method you pivot on your back wheels when going from backwards to forwards! I was trying to pivot on my front wheels and it just wasn't working lol

Absolutely love your videos, thank you so much for these! I just started transitioning today... weird question but I’m finding that it’s a lot easier for me to transition backwards to forwards rather than forwards to backwards...is there any reason for this?

Oh my gosh I can’t wait to try this out, I haven’t been able to get my mind around the mechanics of transitions but this was really clearly explained!! But is it weird that I put my weight on my back foot when I stagger?

    • @janedye-davidson4312
      @janedye-davidson4312 4 года назад

I typically have my weight distributed 70% back, 30% front foot staggered. This seems to be quite common, and it is actually really helpful when outdoor skating (if your front foot hits a rock, you won't be catapulting forward when most of your weight is in the back, for example.) I think each skater may be different in how they find their balance, but the trick is to just exercise both "sides" early on, so you don't get stuck in a mental bias to your footedness. I'm super guilty of not practicing this often, but finding strength in left and right weight balances helps with confidence and fluidity.

I can sort of do transitions (I’m still learning 😋), but when I go forwards to backwards when rolling (not too fast or I will fall 😂 still finding my balance), but once I’ve transitioned I stop rolling and I’m not putting my toe stop down. Idk what I might be doing wrong or if I have to just practice going at a faster speed but I’m very confused why it keeps happening. Help? 😁😆
