Great video. I'm a professional badminton stringer, considering venturing into tennis. The number of strings is mind blowing so this video provides a fabulous starting point along with your other videos. Many thanks.
Just a shout out to Volkl strings they have a great ready made Hybrid that has a comfortable multi filament Power Fiber II string and a relatively comfortable poly string called Volkl cyclone. It's called Volkl Psycho and is great if you have arm issues but don't want to give up poly altogether. Thanks for your great videos by the way i loved watching them during lockdown they really cheered me up and i love your no nonsense deadpan delivery...keep it up!
Best budget multi I have found is technifibre multifeel. Extremely durable for a multi and what I use in my hybrids and I pair it with Wilson revolve. Plays like luxilon alu power for half the price. Check it out
I use a solinco tour bite 1.2 in the main in combination with Luxilon adrenaline 1.25 in the cross. The tour bite i string it at 23 kg and the cross I always do 2 kg lower than the main. All poly lose 10 to 15% of their tension in the first few hours and are stable after. after the first tension loss, this combination hits the sweet spot for me. Nice pocketing, good spin, nice power, predictability and feel. (my racket is the clash 100, adapted to 340gr static weight and 320 swingweight, balance 305mm) my string combination is also affordable, while feeling premium and good tension maintenance

I tried the Luxilon 4G/Head Velocity MLT hybrid in a Yonex Vcore Pro 100 and it was great! Low power control with nice crisp feel without being harsh. Strung 4G in the mains at 48 lbs and Velocity in the crosses at 52 lbs. Thanks for the suggestion!
We've tried so many hybrid and we settled to either Cyclone/CycloneTour and ALU Power/Triax. For our high school clients, we give them either Alu Power/VelocityMLT or Element/VelocityMLT. Polys are prestretch at 10%.
Wolfy’s current setup is Signun Pro Poly Deluxe (17ga) as main, and Genesis Zero Gravity (16ga) as cross at 55 lbs. A couple of guys have Wolfy stringing this setup in their racquets at 57 lbs, and they love the spin they can generate without a lot of shock to their arm. Also have Genesis Hexonic (16) and Zero Grav in one racquet (Burn FST99) at 55. This is a firmer feel, not as much power as with the 17 mains, but easier to control.
It is very personal Kojak, some solid suggestions for sure. Great job big fella.👍 It is personal because....preferences for feel, tension, racquet, expectations, budget....everybody has different needs and the choice is almost endless. Strings have evolved & the competition increased dramatically. Cheers. 🎾🎾🎾
Had to try some of these suggested hybrids. I usually go with VS Gut mains 16/Luxilon Alu Power 18 at 57lbs in a Head Gravity Pro, or the same setup at 55lbs in 95 head sized racquets (Wilson 6.1 Classics, Six.One, and Head Pro Tour 2.0). All feel so good and give perfect spin. Crosses generally break first after about 10 hrs. Tried X-1 Biphase 16 / Solinco Confidential 17 in the Gravity Pro, twice, and both times the multi broke at about 1.5 hrs. Not willing to see if it will saw through my gut. I tried Gamma TNT Pro 16 full bed and as a main with Alu Power 18 and Alu Power Feel, and it wasn't doing it for me. The string is too gummy, not enough snap back and it just sticks out of place. I will give it credit for lasting longer than X-1 Biphase or other multis. Sticking with gut/alu power 18s, as it works best for me.
I have found the ultimate hybrid but it's not for string breakers. I put Klip 18 gage natural gut on the mains and 18 gage Polystar Energy in the crosses. It is the very best string set up you can create for it has great spin and control yet it has power and feel and it's very easy on the arm. Problem is you do have to order the 18 gage Polystar Energy poly string direct from Germany.
If I cut out the poly in the hybrid as a crosses bc it’s dead, can I keep the natural in the mains and only restring the cross? Would the pro shop do that for me? Or they would just say I’m crazy ?
Cutting the crosses would stresses the frame unevenly and distort the frame, so it's quite a stringing taboo (even worse if you only cut the mains). Theoretically, you could mount the racquet on the machine before cutting the crosses to take the stress off the frame, but I doubt a pro shop would be willing to do that for you.
More common to cut out crosses and restring them. I regularly do that myself, the crosses being the multi-filament string. In the mains I have used the Luxilon Timo, but now discontinued.
when i string for people they are to scared of trying gut possibly breaking it at the price point, so the majority of the time i just use x-one biphase as an alternative. slightly more cost effective. for the most part everyone seems to love there alu rough with some bipahse. i have heard there is quality control issues with Klip Gut decided to give it a try when i saw it on sale, seems to play ok for me. picked up a few packs for people possibly wanting to try gut at at a more reasonable price point. no complaints yet
The best combination I found so far: Luxilon M2 Plus on main and Head synthetic Gut or Solinco Hyper-G on cross. There is "nothing" better but tension is tricky and you have to experiment yourself depending on your racket stiffness and your playing style. I put on 5HH, a relatively stiff rackety at 10.7 oz 50/54 lbs (main /cross). I hit mostly flat on both sides. Obviously, the best is natural gut but it doesn't hold tension for too long and cost 1/3 of the racket price. If you are not a professional player and you find YOUR golden combination there is no need for slotting sheeps.
Question: what happens blacking the natural gut(became firmer) is the same thing that happensa when the companies colour the overgrips. In my opinion the white so the pure color without any addition is always the best.
Great video, thanks for this! You mentioned you might be doing several hybrid videos because it's such a broad subject--would you consider doing a video on poly-poly hybrids? @@bowsershark another thing to ask if you don't mind : a bit earlier this year I had wanted to start trying stringing polys at lower tension. However, the lowest I have got is only about 46 lb. I know that sometimes you have to go quite a bit lower such as down to 40 lb or lower to start getting those low poly tension benefits. Tennis Spin I'm old school playing tennis from back in the 90s using graphite rackets. In those days, I would probably break strings every 3 months and I played tennis daily. My 14 year old plays tennis 1.5 hours 7 times a week. He breaks strings every week. We tried different combo of using 15 gauges on mains (59lbs) and crosses (56lbs) on Wilson Pro Staff 97 LS. We use Luxilon 15 gauge mains and Wilson NXT 15 gauge crosses. He would break the Luxilon or NXT. With the 16x19 string patterns in modern rackets, is that what is causing string to break after only around 14 hours of use?
Great review. I would like to ask how does the Triax compare to the x-one biphase, NRG2 and Babolat xcel overall? I am looking for a good multifilament to string in my mains with a co-poly in the crosses.
Good information. I was looking for a video like this to clear up some of the same question you touched upon. And some idea I didn't consider. Good Information indeed!!!
dude, underselling alu power, i really like the solinco strings but fresh alu power is just awesome. i mean the only knock, and it's a big one, it dies quick, but i don't think it's terrible dead either
Thanks for the video coach. What's is the recommended tension combo for a hybrid setup? I just bought Solinco Tour Bite 1.20 & NRG2 1.32... I'm planning to have them on my Pure Aero 98 as TB on mains while NRG2 on crosses. Note: I usually play with full bed poly at 48 LB.
There is no Wilson gut. It is Babolat with Wilson label and made by older Babolat formula (different coating and therefore a bit better than current VS Touch).
@@perakojot6524 The current Wilson gut is actually not made by Babolat - its made by Luxilon. If you look closely at the back of the packaging, you'll see that its 'Made in Belgium'. The difference between Wilson and Luxilon is that the Wilson has 8 strands of serosa fibre versus Luxilon's 9, and the coating is different.
Great video. Would you suggest to string the poly strings (whether on the main or cross) about 10% looser than the non poly? That’s what I’ve always been told but don’t know if it’s right.
Another great video! I have a question. I used Wison Duo Feel on Wilson Clash and I loved its feel and power. Could you give me any recommendation which would give me similar feel & power?
When you talk about tension maintenance in terms of hours are are you referring to hours of play? Does poly lose tension over time regardless of playing time?
I bought my wife a very light wilson hammerhead (237g) when she first started playing tennis 8 months ago. Now, I am thinking to get her a heavier racket to improve her game. A friend of ours bought us the wilson champion string, would it be suitable for her at this stage? Or should I go with luxilon & gamma combo? What tension would you recommend? I am eyeing for Yonex ezone 100SL 2020 270g because it is heavily discounted but it came with grip 3. Is there a way to easily make the grip smaller? Thanks in advance!
What do you think will be better to cross with having Confidential 18 on the main? Gamma TNT ruff 16 or Head Velocity MLT 16? Please explain the choice.
I buy discounted gut for my mains and now tried solinco confidential in the crosses. Nice set up. Normally I use kirschbaum pro line II in the crosses.
Tested on my RF97A: 1. Champion Choice ( natural gut / alu rough ) 2. Babolat VS hybrid ( natural gut / rpm blast ) NG mains( 26 kg ) / poly crosses (24 kg) They play different!!! Champion choice is more “ compressed “..has more power, more spin, more explosivness, more bite. Less touch and feel than VS hybrid.... its stiffer string bed than VS hybrid. After few days of playing it get softer and better for your arm. I noticed that CC plays different, mostly because of AluRough. VS hybrid is more flexible, has more touch, more feel, its more flexible string bed and its half price than champion choice. They are both great hybrids and i could say that VS is more on natural gut side as a dominant part... and CC is on AluRough side as a dominant characteristic.More bite, power etc. I like CC more, because it is more pro players setup, Control , feel is there but in different way than VS hybrid. For me, in better way. But if the money is an issue, than VS is setup to go. Its cheaper, but its Natural gut :) ... i payed 20euros for VS hybrid
I got a wilson nxt comfort and I used it on the cross with babolat rpm blast. Not really find of the wilson nxt. Ball seems to slip from the strings and not really getting crispness on my volleys. What can I use apart from the nxt comfort that is comfortable for my shoulder /arm? Thanks
Hello nice video, I have a Yonex ezone 100 2022 with Yoenex Poly tour Pro yelow 25kg and I lose power playing and my elbows hurts, have you some hybrid or steing recomendation please?
Thank you for the video. I want to try either Confidential/4G with natural gut. Which combo do you think is best for feel and counter punching game style?
a question about the length of a full set string (40 feet): will it be enough for 2 string jobs as the main of a racket of 98 head with 16/19 string bed? assuming main consumes more string than cross does.
yes...tho you may have to make "tails" to reach the tensioner. cut the 40 in half and proceed. i do my 118 inch mains with less that 20 feet (multi stretches)
Hey sensei, do you recommend put solinco confidential 17g in the main and the crossses I put velocity 16g ? I can use lynx tour 17g in the main with velocity too ?
Would you recommend Hyper G as a string that is softer than ALU Power and has a little bit more spin potential? I don't think I have the strokes well enough to use Confidential. Thank you.
Hi, Im currently playing with a Tecnifibre X One Biphase. I changed to this string since I have elbow problems. However, I break these strings very fast and therefore I was thinking on doing Hybrid or changing to Poly. What do you recommend? Do you recommend the Hyper G soft ?
Hi guys . Has anyone played extensively with the Head Gravity Hybrid string ? The one with triangular mains n circular crosses... How does it play compared to say a normal full bed poly like the Dunlop Black widow ? Tks a lot.
Is gamma live wire professional (main) and luxilon 4g (cross) on wilson blade v7 16x19 a good combo? I’m looking for a hybrid with maximum feel, tension maintenance, good control and spin without too much power since I generate my own.
Steven Do How long does your gamma professional last? mine starts fraying after 6 hours of play or so, even on the crosses. how do you like it and have you tried any alternatives?
Joseph Hodge The feel and tension maintenance is absolutely great, but it the durability was ok ig . I strung mine at 60lbs for a lot of control and did 57lbs on the crosses with the polys. A good alternative is the tecnifibre triax
@Tennis Spin hi, I am planning to use Babolat Touch Tonic in the mains and Solinco Confidential 16L in the crosses. Do you think it's a good combination? If yes, what tensions do you recommend?
My daughter uses gut mains and the 4G crosses. She breaks the poly crosses not the gut most times. Not sure why she breaks the poly crosses more. The gut lasts longer
As said before, if you are not putting gut in the main don't bother. You actually get more spin with Gut in Main and Poly in cross. I always string cross lower as I want better snapback for spin. I string my gut 2+ lbs over normal (don't like the boardy feel of pre-stretched gut). I string main gut 4 lbs higher than poly cross.
I use old babolat pure drive team 2003, can you recommend a soft string to play with, i have tried poly at 50 n 40lbs and i still feel vibration n i hurt my wrist/elbow/shoulder with every hits, the vibration is so annoying to my arm, thanks in advance
All polys will vibrate. Try a hybrid with Tecnifibre X-One Biphase 16g on the mains and Luxilon Element 125 on the cross at 48lbs. That should help a lot. Thank you for watching.
Hybrid with poly and natural gut is the BEST combo. but problem i have is that i restring every 2 weeks and it gets just too expensive. and One thing you are Wrong on is, if you hybrid the Poly, you get LESS Spin not more spin
I got a Wilson clash tour. I put AlU power rough on the main (tension 50) and Wilson NXT 17 on the crosses ( tension 55). Do you think this is a good combo? Also is the tension good or what would your change? Thanks Anyone can help please
What would you recommend to string with Luxilon Element? I tried the Wilson Duo Feel, but the strings broke too quickly. I liked the spin aspect of that particular hybrid.
@@juanantoniocanohidalgo5070 nice combo of spin and pocketing...nowadays I've switched the nrg to Triax knstead...a bit crisper and a little more durable. I'm not a breaker.
Question, if I currently use the Champs Choice set up (I’ve played around with the gut in both mains and crosses) but am looking for a slightly cheaper alternative, what should I try? Maybe Solinco Vanquish? Should I experiment with a multi? I know you don’t like Wilson NXT. Maybe Technifibre NRG? Or should I try something like Gamma TNT or Head Velocity? Is it okay to keep the ALU rough in the mains or should I look to replace that string with something like Solinco Confidential or Hyper G? I’m looking for a similar feel to that natural gut but at a slightly lower price point. I’ve tried Klip and that feels just okay. Anyone else in the same boat? Thanks for the help!
So much great info on this channel. I'm sharing with my daughter and her high performance player friends. Good stuff to learn about rackets and strings. Some string their own rackets since they play a lot.
Would put confidential in mains . Sheep micro is one the best synthetic for crosses but there are better multifilament strings for crosses like solinco vanquish
Had to try a hybrid set up after having Cyclone 17G @ 52 in my stick for like 2 weeks, Recently had my buddy string my gravity tour with Solinco Confidential (M) @ 50 and Solinco Vanquish (C) @ 54, I haven’t played in a hybrid in quite sometime. But as Tennis Spin, super predictable, i think this set up has great feel and love the pocketing I get on the ball. As for durability I’ll get back with you guys on that. Have played total of 4-6 hours maybe on It so far and I’m enjoying It. Looking to see if there is a bit more durable option for the crosses. My favorite thing so far is the feel I get. I’ll update when I break. Happy Playing y’all stay safe! 🤙🏽🎾
What tension differential do you use with gut/poly, poly/gut, synthetic/poly, poly /synthetic? I have been using 3-5# less on the poly in either configuration. Curious to what you do. Thanks for the videos. Keep it coming
The only one I can speak of with plenty of experience is poly mains and syn gut/gut/or multi crosses. I always have the poly strung more loosely in the mains. (3 to 5 pounds lower) In that situation, yes I have poly looser, but I think generally you want the crossed tighter than the mains. This can help your mains slide and snap back more easily because the crosses should hold their position more tightly
Yes, I mix gauges and it works great for top spin. For example, 16g lux4G or Element on main and 17g Babolot Super Fine on crosses. 15g Wilson Synthetic on mains with 16g Wilson Sensation or NXT on crosses.

How about a video on all thin gauge strings compared. 18 g x-one biophase. 18g hyper g, 18g volkl , 18 g confidential ,etc.
Could you please talk about the advantages and disadvantages of stringing crosses and mains at different tensions. With hybrids? With polys?
dude, underselling alu power, i really like the solinco strings but fresh alu power is just awesome. i mean the only knock, and it's a big one, it dies quick, but i don't think it's terrible dead either
I wasn't impressed with ALU. The only string that blew me away was yonex poly tour rev.
@@rolandharris2706 cool
Thanks for the video coach. What's is the recommended tension combo for a hybrid setup? I just bought Solinco Tour Bite 1.20 & NRG2 1.32... I'm planning to have them on my Pure Aero 98 as TB on mains while NRG2 on crosses.
Note: I usually play with full bed poly at 48 LB.
Vs/ 4g g17 for me is the best value for playability and duration
Would love to try all of these combos. Currently with Wilson Natural on the main and luxilon ALU rough on the cross and it feels good.
I strung with Klip Legend Natural Gut in Main and poly cross. I love it.
Can you possibly compare Klip to Babolat and Wilson gut strings?
There is no Wilson gut. It is Babolat with Wilson label and made by older Babolat formula (different coating and therefore a bit better than current VS Touch).
@@perakojot6524 The current Wilson gut is actually not made by Babolat - its made by Luxilon. If you look closely at the back of the packaging, you'll see that its 'Made in Belgium'. The difference between Wilson and Luxilon is that the Wilson has 8 strands of serosa fibre versus Luxilon's 9, and the coating is different.
@@philipau3847 Hm, didn't know that. Usually reviewers claim Luxilon gut is worse than Babolat. So that looks as downgrade.
Thanks for the very informative video!
That is a good combo. Stick with that. Thanks for watching.
Good comment using the natural color VS in place of the dyed black one for better feel. I stumbled across this myself recently.
Are there any tricks or special instructions for stringing babolat pure aero racquets?
Hey mate hybrid with yonex poly tour pro + gosen synthetic gut is cheapest and softest arm friendly set up you can have.
You guys should make a STRINGS Playlist on your channel ✌
What do you think will be better to cross with having Confidential 18 on the main? Gamma TNT ruff 16 or Head Velocity MLT 16? Please explain the choice.
have you ever tried MSV Co Focus 1.23 ?
it is my favourite! tried alu power, signum pro, black widow, red code, ...
Do have any recommendations for strings/hybrids for control/precision and spin? I am a high performance player.
If u have money nothing beats vs touch/alu power choice of federer, djokovic, murray, serena
I buy discounted gut for my mains and now tried solinco confidential in the crosses. Nice set up. Normally I use kirschbaum pro line II in the crosses.
What will be the cheapest multi synthetic or sensation plus for best control for 16 main 19 cross pattern
Tested on my RF97A:
1. Champion Choice ( natural gut / alu rough )
2. Babolat VS hybrid ( natural gut / rpm blast )
NG mains( 26 kg ) / poly crosses (24 kg)
They play different!!!
I like CC more, because it is more pro players setup,
Control , feel is there but in different way than VS hybrid. For me, in better way.
But if the money is an issue, than VS is setup to go. Its cheaper, but its Natural gut :) ...
i payed 20euros for VS hybrid
Could you tell me please where didi you get VS hybrid for 20 euro?
Alexander Pr.
Here in croatia. I have good price in local Babolat shop.
which do you put in the mains and crosses?
@@RedRoomPosters you are lucky one :)
llamawizard
Natural Gut ( mains) luxilon ( crosses )
I got a wilson nxt comfort and I used it on the cross with babolat rpm blast. Not really find of the wilson nxt. Ball seems to slip from the strings and not really getting crispness on my volleys. What can I use apart from the nxt comfort that is comfortable for my shoulder /arm? Thanks
Hello nice video, I have a Yonex ezone 100 2022 with Yoenex Poly tour Pro yelow 25kg and I lose power playing and my elbows hurts, have you some hybrid or steing recomendation please?
A budget version of Champ's choice would be Klip Xplosive. Had it in my setup for a while and was DYNAMITE 😍 power control spin, amazing
When using the hybrid string does the gauge of both strings have to be the same or can the softer be string be a bit thicker?
they can be different thicknesses
I have been using a thicker cross for years and it works well.
Do you prestretch?! Can you talk about pros and cons about pre stretching different types of tennis strings?
I used a prestretched 17g Babolot RPM Blast on mains and a 15g Ashaway on crosses successfully.
Did you mean gut in the mains and confidential in the crosses or the other way around?
Amazing and useful tips. Gina use gut in the mains and 4g in the Cross. Wanna more playability.
try the NRG2 mains
Would love to try all these strings !!
Must both strings be the same gauge ? Or is possible mix 1.27 with 1.25 ? thanks
Hey sensei, do you recommend put solinco confidential 17g in the main and the crossses I put velocity 16g ? I can use lynx tour 17g in the main with velocity too ?
Hey, can you do a review of the What are the elements of historical fiction? Please I am trying something new want your help. Please
What should I do if there isn't any stringers near me
Learn to string yourself (investment/expensive if depending on the machine), or some larger companies are offering stringing by mail.
Thanks you very much for this detailed explanation
Black code 4s or Weiss ultra cable in mains for spin and thin string in crosses to keep it soft
I use hyper-g mains and gamma glide in the crosses. I love this combo. Is there anything else similar/better than gamma glide?
Would you recommend Hyper G as a string that is softer than ALU Power and has a little bit more spin potential? I don't think I have the strokes well enough to use Confidential. Thank you.
Hyper G is softer. Good string. Just string at 50 pounds or lower.
Head Velocity Main + Luxilon Element crosses ( who already tried that ?)
Hyper g and feel in the same sentence Harry?
Hi, Im currently playing with a Tecnifibre X One Biphase. I changed to this string since I have elbow problems. However, I break these strings very fast and therefore I was thinking on doing Hybrid or changing to Poly. What do you recommend? Do you recommend the Hyper G soft ?
any thoughts on gut main + multi cross hybrid?
Is this a good string Wilson Gold, Luxilon 4G Soft 125 - Cuerda de tenis, calibre 16 L
Is Gamma TNT strings better than Wilson multis for hybrid purposes ?
Please need to understand differente between gut strings (vs tonic etc)
Tonic is thicker Gut 15L
@@javace79 thx
Yes definitely. Thanks for watching.
How much quicker did the champs choice duo with gut mains break compared to poly mains?
My daughter uses gut mains and the 4G crosses. She breaks the poly crosses not the gut most times. Not sure why she breaks the poly crosses more. The gut lasts longer
How they behave with high humidity?
gut main vs poly main...would you string them at a different tension or keep it the same?
Thank you sir
I use Technifibre NRG on the mains with Wilson Revolve crosses. A poor man's Champions Choice. 😂
How good is it tho?

could you give your shop adress. it seems to me that you have complete tennis racquets and accessories
Hybrid with poly and natural gut is the BEST combo. but problem i have is that i restring every 2 weeks and it gets just too expensive. and One thing you are Wrong on is, if you hybrid the Poly, you get LESS Spin not more spin
Can you do a video on the best strings purely for spin pls!!
Take lessons. If you can't hit with extreme spin with technique, changing strings isn't going to help you.
I got a Wilson clash tour. I put AlU power rough on the main (tension 50) and Wilson NXT 17 on the crosses ( tension 55). Do you think this is a good combo? Also is the tension good or what would your change? Thanks
Anyone can help please
What would you recommend to string with Luxilon Element? I tried the Wilson Duo Feel, but the strings broke too quickly. I liked the spin aspect of that particular hybrid.
i use the technifibre nrg2 with the element...lasts about a month with four plays a week
@@ralphh5060 hello is good combination power and control?
Thanks for the help!
thank you! Very informative.
18g hyper g gamma live wire 17g for tbe best feel
So much great info on this channel. I'm sharing with my daughter and her high performance player friends. Good stuff to learn about rackets and strings. Some string their own rackets since they play a lot.
What do you think about Gosen Sheep Micro 48lbs in mains and confidential 52lb in crosses?
Would put confidential in mains . Sheep micro is one the best synthetic for crosses but there are better multifilament strings for crosses like solinco vanquish
Is it ok to use multi/poly combination (Luxilon alu power for main + head RIP control for cross)?
sure...i like the Rip Control full bed for many of my clients...good performance and durable
*Update* Broke them last night...looking to see what other “durable” multi to try. Might look into Solinco X-Natural or Head Velocity
(3 to 5 pounds lower)
In that situation, yes I have poly looser, but I think generally you want the crossed tighter than the mains. This can help your mains slide and snap back more easily because the crosses should hold their position more tightly
Tell us head lynx cost plssß
Thank you...really helpful 😎👍
Would it be a problem if mixing 2 different gauge size ?
Yes, I mix gauges and it works great for top spin. For example, 16g lux4G or Element on main and 17g Babolot Super Fine on crosses.
15g Wilson Synthetic on mains with 16g Wilson Sensation or NXT on crosses.
You are an absolute beauty...great info and very unbiassed approach . Awesome..loved it
