Really appreciate your videos @tennisspin I’m a semi retired pro golfer whose been in the golf industry for over 14 years. My mother was a formal college player a long time ago. And since we moved to Vegas, we’ve been playing tennis a lot more since moving here. And as much as I feel I know in golf. Getting into tennis, I’ve really gotten into the tech of tennis rackets and strings. You’ve led me into a new world of customization of rackets and strings and I greatly appreciate it. Your videos have brought a new tennis player into the world and wanted to show you appreciation.
If you were a semi pro in golf Forsure u will pick up tennis pretty fast. You just need to work in endurance that’s Forsure. I tell my friends that I feel golf is the hardest sport to learn and tennis is next to it. You actually need to have skills or learn it to play. If you suck with hand n eye coordination, it might be time to rethink things. Funny because I want to do the opposite of you. I want to learn how to golf. Just turned 38 and recently started playing tennis again recreationally. Really thinking about taking gold lessons
Can you do a video on tensions for Hybrids? I.e., Stringing the mains tighter than the crosses vs tensioning multis tighter than poly vs stringing at the same tension on mains and the crosses.
I used to use a hybrid for a while due to having tennis elbow, but recently I’m using full bed polys because my arm got a lot stronger and I broke tons of strings with the hybrids 😂
I use kirschbaum max power rough in my crosses with my gut mains as opposed to some of the more popular polys. Biggest reason being that it holds tension much better. I find with Alu power or rpm blast the crosses go loose rather quickly and you lose the control gained from the polly. Kirschbaum holds tension much better than other polyesters and therefore I get i much longer playability duration. A more accessible string that also holds tension well and would work similarly is lux 4g/4g rough. Tsitsipas has used gut/4g hybrid since having surgery. I find the kirschbaum to be more arm friendly while still holding the tension about as well and much more cost effective.
Is not the same, an softer poly is made for people who are searching the same spin as a poly but softer like an multifilament, an hybrid is for people who search for the spin of a poly and the power of the synthetic, multifilament or natural gut
@@sgarte6493 So if you have poly mains and syn crosses, the hope is spin from the poly and power from the syn--plus some better tension retention. Why not just string the poly looser or is something else lost? I'm assuming you will be giving up tension retention, but maybe gain the power?
Hi!! I watched your videos all the time and I’ve learned a lot from your videos. I do have a question concerning about hybrids. Let me tell a little about myself, I’m 64yo lefty I don’t break a lot of string. I don’t have a big topspin on my forehand, two handed backhand. I used to have Yonex ezone I strung with poly 52lbs but I’m having a little bit problem of my elbow so I switched to Head gravity MP and has a 56 RA. I do my own stringing. I’m interested about the hybrids. I have solinco (tour bite, confidential and hyper g soft) I have multifilament also and synthetic gut. I have a lot of spin on my serve. I just want to know your recommendations that is easy on my elbow. Thank you in advance
i was thinking about switching to a hybrid setup (currently use full poly), but worried about breaking strings often. how long do you think that hybrid setup would last before breaking?
@@Unco_Drew Try head syn gut PPS 17g and gamma moto 17g. I use the syn gut in the mains because I like a softer feel, but it works great with the poly in the mains, too. The syn gut in the mains is a true poor man's Fed setup. If you break strings, switch to gamma tnt2 for the syn gut. It's more durable, but has a little less feel, imho. Tension also matters a lot. String your mains around the middle of your racquet's recommended range and the crosses 5 to 6 pounds less.
@@Unco_Drew if you think youre a string breaker it should last you at most 2 weeks before it breaks. It also depends how often you play and how long. If not then it should last you a month. I used to play with multi on main and poly on cross and that setup used to last me 2 weeks before it breaks.
He says my friend strung with natural gut and told me "man it's killing me" Giving the impression that the gut is hurting his elbow or wrist. When in fact he was refering to the cost. You should be more clear, and said your friend wanted a cheaper option.
Played for years with full poly in my pro staff 97s 290 gr I always notice the vibrations. Recently switched to the 315 grams 16x19npro staff still the same string lost most of the vibrations. It does not have counter Vale system. Feels much more solid. It was a welkom surprise

I use Radical Pro (G360). Three times a year I use natural Gut in the main. Otherwise, T/X-One, 124 in the main; 27 kg and, ALU rough 125 in the cross, 25 kg. After a year of trying I settled down with this set up. Radical pro is customized with led and tungsten putty, 252 gr/ 315 mm at balance.
I use Technifibre Black Code 17g (poly) on main at 54lbs And Technifibre NRG, 16g (multi) on cross at 55 or 56lbs. I find after raise tension on mains from 53 to 54lbs the ball bites more with spin. I recommend if use a "shaped" spin focused on the mains, then go a little higher tension to grab the ball for spin.
I tried the Solinco Confidential and the Tecnifibre Triax. Greatest strings and combination ever. Never had a better control and power. Racquet:. Clash, Confidential mains, Triax in crosses, 50lbs.
Great video! I’m using the Solinco Whiteout 18x20s with a full bed of Tour Bite 17g (with a dampener). I’m not getting enough feel so am curious about hybrid setups using the same string, either at different tensions or with different gauges. Are you able to make a video about this please?
Agassi used a kevlar/gut mix, certainly in the Heads from the early 90's and possibly prior before he changed to Lux Alu in the late 90's. I used a kevlar/synth mix in the very late 80's due to chronic string breakage so hybrids have been around quite a while.
Thanks for the video coach. What's is the recommended tension combo for a hybrid setup? I just bought Solinco Tour Bite 1.20 & NRG2 1.32... I'm planning to have them on my Pure Aero 98 as TB on mains while NRG2 on crosses. Note: I usually play with full bed poly at 48 LB.
Don’t forget about Kevlar hybrids. Good tension maintenance, and also good for string breakers. I used Prince ProBlend for years. I’m going to try stringing one racket with Ashaway Crossfire ZX when warm weather comes back to the northern Midwest.
for last 5 or so years my main hybrid setup has been VS 16 on mains (48lbs) with Solinco Tourbite 17 on crosses (52lbs), but here and there, switch them around. Also liked TechniFibre NRG2, Solinco Vanquish in the mix with Tourbite
Natural gut mains and Poly Fibre Hightech premium 1.20 in the crosses 57/56. The poly fibre hightech premium is one of the softest poly’s on the market hence why I chose it, It also needs stringing 2-4 lbs higher so Ive increased the cross string tension from 54 to 56. This plays soooooooo nice it’s unbelievable My second racket has Head Velocity MLT in the mains instead of gut so I have a racket for damp / wet days on the court I gotta say, Head Velocity MLT is a damn good string.
I've tried hybrids, gut, synthetic gut, poly mains, poly crosses but I always go back to a full bed of Co-Poly, I just like the harsher more impact feel a stiff Co-Poly gives. I guess it's what you like which is important. I certainly don't like a Mushy feel off the string bed but that's what I'm used to. This is probably the best and most concise and to the point hybrid video I have found. First hybrid string setup for me and just picked my racquet up from the shop. I went for Grapplesnake M8 Mains 56lb, and Technifiber X-One Biphase Synthetic 54lb Cross. I think I may have erred as the poly mains are not snapping back into place. Is this because the poly is octagonal and digging into the synthetic multifillament? Perhaps I should have gone for Solenco Confidential which is round poly? Any advice appreciated. 😢
I love my Babolat hybrid of VS gut in the mains & RPM Blast in cross. Their pre packaged hybrid pack is perfect for me. A full set of gut was a bit too powerful for me & the full bed of poly was a bit too stiff for my elbow.
IMO, for non-professionals that'd like to try natural gut, just do the full set gut and adjust the power by tuning the tension. Tried Gut/Poly hybrid before, it kind of expires after maybe 10hours of hitting, because of the imbalance in tension loss. I've even tried an extreme tension difference of 3kg/6lbs (poly being higher one), in the hope to compensate the eventual tension loss in the poly, doesn't work, poor feel at the beginning, equally poor towards the end of life. On the other hand, full set of gut is just magical on denser string pattern of 18/20, nice soft feeling with plenty of feedback, and not over-powering!
I have read differing opinions on gut / poly hybrids and the string tension differential. If you put the natural gut in the MAINS and poly in the crosses, how much lower in tension would you recommend stringing the poly crosses for optimal performance and snap-back?
Klip Legend is a really great budget gut alternative. I like the 15L with Alu Power Rough or Head Lynx Tour, maybe a Tour Bite, but for my game I prefer a full bed of poly. One thing I like about gut is the feedback is excellent. It feels connected to the ball without any harshness. It’s worth anyone to try it out at least once
Tried full poly, could never grow to like it. I have now settled on the best performance set-up in my opinion. VS Gut/ALU Power Soft on my VCore 95. The only issue is I break the gut main in about 5-6 hours. While it lasts though, pure heaven. One day maybe I will try a hybrid with poly mains and a soft synthetic cross. Maybe Triax or TNT as suggested. Not sure if those will allow snap back though.
Hi, thanks for the channel, really awesome! My question is: what do you think about a hybrid between yonex poly tour fire 1.25 and Yonex rexis Comfort 1.25? A tension recommended? considering that I ussually string my racket yonex e zone 98 tour with volkl cyclone 1.25 (full bed) at 48 pounds. I wish you the best! Pablo
If I put gut in the crosses how tight should Be the tension to keep the control if I play full poly (Tour Bite at 50 pounds) would like to try gut with alu. Thanks
Also wondering if you have ever used WeissCannon strings? I used full set of mosquito bite 18g and it is great combination of control and power, not hard on the arm and last long time. I also have a few guys that I use the ultra cable 17g on. Those guys are big hitters and again it has great control and good power. does not last as long, but they are very big hitters. Both of those seem to hold tension pretty long also!! I put them in about 10% lower then normal. I am going to try your confidential-what are the hi points of that string?
Good morning from Greece what is your opinion about this hybrid stringing babolat tonic feel 1.30(crosses) vs Hyper G 1.20 (main) on babolat pure strike 98 16x19 305 at 25-23 kilos....
Heyy tennisspin! I love both hyper g soft and tour bite soft! I want to try a hybrid between, hopefully the set up will give me the top spin the tour bite soft gives me and the feel and power the hyger g gives me… how would you recommend i set it up?
I used Technifibre Biphase on the mains and Signom Pro Tornado on the crosses. The rough poly wore out the multi on the mains while stringing. Any tips?
I have a stringing question. On some of my racquets, it is hard to find a grommet hole to tie on its own cross string with poly on crosses and gut on main. Is it okay to have starting and ending cross (poly) tie on main (gut) ?
hey harry, what do u think of stringing technifibre ice code on main and rpm rough on cross? or maybe ocho tnt on main and rpm rough on cross? am living in a very humid area so natural guy is pretty much out for me
I tried poly/multi hybrid. At first 2h of play it was perfect. However, poly cut into multi and got locked. I felt like there was no snapback. How to set it up to last longer? Rounded poly will help?
It depends from person to person, personal preference key factors are also how good your techniques. How your style of play is. Would not go far above 24kilo's if any otherwise the poly is just too stiff. I am coach also have worked as a stringer for a couple of years in a pro shop. 23,5 on the gut & 22,5 on the poly. Most play with the poly as their main string and the gut on the cross strings. But it depends where you are coming from stil
question.... does headsize affect what tension to use. i.e wilsons champion choice on a 97sqi compared on a 90sqi. I know Fed was stringing way low when he was using the 90sq but i cant quite get the rationale behind it.
Hey Harry? You know how those little cans pump up more pressure that was lost in used balls? (I was always surprised that actually worked!)... I'm wondering if there is some way to retain tension in your stringing when your racket is in storage. Say in a desiccator or in warm temperature environment so it won't contract. Some reliable method so that the strings don't naturally loosen when you're not using the racket? 🤔
Best way is to keep the racket in your bag. Most decent racket bags have thermal pockets for placing your racket in. If it's kept in a dry ambient cupboard for example, it should be good for a few weeks. 👍🏻
I've played tennis my whole life, but pretty much self taught. Never took the game or the equipment that seriously until this year so I'm a little bit of a newbie when it comes to picking string. I'm skilled, and probably a 4.0 at this time. I am a bigger guy and can produce power on my own so I bought more of a "pro" racket for control. What types of string/string combos should I be looking at for more control and spin? I have poly in my racket right now and am liking it, but I'm hearing it doesn't hold tension well. How often do you guys that play weekly have to restring poly? Just looking for some ideas to try out. Thanks
I've been playing full poly bed for many years. Depending on the Poly and how much you're playing will determine how much you need to restring. A general rule of thumb. You should restring your racket every year the same amount of time you play per week. E. G., if you play 3 times per week, then you should restring 3 times per year. I would say a good club player should be restringing at least every 3 months, no longer. Most polys drop tension but some more than others. 👍🏻
@@Reakerboy I'm learning more about it, thanks for the feedback. A lot of people say it starts to go after like 20 hours, which would mean restringing about once per month for me. I'm in the 3rd week with RPM Blast I think? Forget which version, loving it but I can tell it's getting loose. Maybe another couple weeks. I'm going to be playing a lot so I think I might have to learn stringing. That's going to be a whole other adventure lol.
@@mplslawnguy3389 hey, no worries, I string myself, play 3 times per week, heavy singles hitting and some dubs and I restring once per month, which seems to work well. Just out of interest, what racket and what tension do you string the blast at?
@@mplslawnguy3389 nice. I didn't get on with the Confidential, I found it a little too soft for my liking. I use luxilon alu power rough, have you tried it? The 4g is awesome also, I think you'll like it. Have you tried stringing at a lower tension? Maybe 50lbs? Poly works really well at lower tensions I find. I use the new Blade 18x20 V7, I string at 48 lbs mains and crosses. If you want any stringing tips just ask away! Good luck.
I'm using Rpm blast and sensation on mains on ps97L at 58.. Snaps too quick for my liking... Any suggestions to benefit less breakage..? Thanks from NZ
String with alot lower tension. 58 lbs is way too high for a poly, especially Rpm blast. String it at 50 lbs and feel the snap back, strung too tight, the strings won't pass over each other too well. Poly should be strung low. 👍🏻
I use volkl cyclone 18 on mains and cheap cheap head syn gut on the cross. I now have cross on 2lb higher tension to get less pop from the syn gut. But I need to try fliping the tension around as I need It may give me more spin that way
Hybrid strings bring another level of complexity to tennis geekdom. What combination of strings gets you what characteristics? What tension on the mains vs the crosses? Madness ensues!
Currently have Confidential 1.20 mains at 21.5kg and NRG2 1.32 crosses at 23kg in my Ultra Tour. I love the comfort and the feel for touch shots/volleys etc. What I don't like is the amount of power without being able to control it enough with spin. It's a 18x20 and the edgy mains lock into my soft crosses so there's hardly any snapback. So for next string job, I'm thinking either Confidential or Tour Bite Soft mains with slick, round Poly Tour Pro crosses. Both 1.20 gauge probably. Do you guys think this will work for upping the spin potential? Of course it will be less comfortable but still comfortable enough for me because I'll string both at low tensions and UT is a plush frame. Or do you have another idea that will have better spin potential than the Confidential/NRG2 setup I have now while still retaining a nice level of comfort?
Try Revolve 17 125mm (the round black version) mains and Head PPC Syn Gut 17 crosses both at 49lbs. Cheap and very efective for 2 weeks (4 times a week frequency)
I tried to cross with All power to get more durability out of the gut, but found the Alu power rough has better snap back. Going back to the rough version.

The only issue is I break the gut main in about 5-6 hours. While it lasts though, pure heaven. One day maybe I will try a hybrid with poly mains and a soft synthetic cross. Maybe Triax or TNT as suggested. Not sure if those will allow snap back though.
I like this setup but with multi in the mains and poly in the crosses, best performance, playability setup.

Great video, thanks! What about tensions and gauge. Is there a combination that works better then others? Thanks!
Pablo
I used Tourbite on the cross and Black window on the main.
If I put gut in the crosses how tight should Be the tension to keep the control if I play full poly (Tour Bite at 50 pounds) would like to try gut with alu. Thanks
Hi!
What did you guys put on your demo Racket TFight 315? Was it Dunlop synthetic gut on main and something else?
Also wondering if you have ever used WeissCannon strings? I used full set of mosquito bite 18g and it is great combination of control and power, not hard on the arm and last long time. I also have a few guys that I use the ultra cable 17g on. Those guys are big hitters and again it has great control and good power. does not last as long, but they are very big hitters. Both of those seem to hold tension pretty long also!! I put them in about 10% lower then normal. I am going to try your confidential-what are the hi points of that string?
I would like to know your thought on the, Wilson sensation plus string...
What is more worth it? better feel for a thinner gauge on the cross (17g), or keep it at 16g on the crosses to hold better tension?
What are the pros and cons of having thinner crosses in a poly/poly hybrid setup?
What do you think about a Kirshcbaum Black shark on the mains and Luxilon 4g rough on crosses?
I use Toyota hybrid. Feels great 😅 no, just kidding. Thanks for great vid as always.
wow very funny☹️☹️
I use black widow 1.30 in the mains and dunlop explosive 1.25 in the crosses at 60 lbs
Really liked this vid, learned allot today. Thank you and keep up the amazing vids
i use polyfibre viper mains and alu power rough crosses. the viper loses tension so i'm looking for a different softer poly.
I use Head Velocity MLT 27kg for mains and Luxilon Element Rough/Signum Pro Yellow Jacket 25kg in crosses. Prestretch 20% for all.
На каква ракета? Защо ги разтягаш с 20%?
Good recommendations
I use Wilson sensation power on the mains and Wilson synthetic gut on the crosses. Is this a good multifilament and synthetic guys hybrid?
Good morning from Greece what is your opinion about this hybrid stringing babolat tonic feel 1.30(crosses) vs Hyper G 1.20 (main) on babolat pure strike 98 16x19 305 at 25-23 kilos....
How about alu power in mains with a copoly like Kirschbaum proline Evolution in the crosses to cheapen a bit the budget? Great video!!!
Can you give your review for Ashaway Crossfire 18 Kevlar String ? Please
i used 17 but the break in stage is horrible, but after its ok ig. would rather put in crosses tho
I definitely recommend hybrid stringing. I love my mains Babolat RPM Blast 17 and Cross Yonex 130 Polytour 17 Yellow.
um, a hybrid of different polys?
hey harry, what do u think of stringing technifibre ice code on main and rpm rough on cross? or maybe ocho tnt on main and rpm rough on cross? am living in a very humid area so natural guy is pretty much out for me
great video harry!
I tried poly/multi hybrid. At first 2h of play it was perfect. However, poly cut into multi and got locked. I felt like there was no snapback. How to set it up to last longer? Rounded poly will help?
What’s the recommended tension on confidential main triax cross?
Great video once again!!
Question; what is the best hybrid and tension for Clash Pro for a 40 year old club level player?
The trampoline effect gets bigger when you swing a larger frame. Go up in tension to regain control.
How about main with rpm blast and multi cross, is it ok?
Those non-aligned babolat racquets at the back is killing my OCD
Go get a banana 🤪
i love tennis
I use Head Lynx mains and Prince Synthetic Gut for crosses
yonex polyspin 16l on the mains and grapplesnake irukandji 17 @ 54#, I will try solex mains and tnt on the cross
Hey, curious if there are any downsides to stringing the mains with gut @ 62 and crosses with poly @ 48? :)
That could mean deadly i assume
@@Reakerboy Head Speed Pro @54lbs. Just bought a stringing machine too. Got some luxilon 4g and Solinco confidential to try out.
Good luck.
How durable is gut as a cross?
I use Gamma moto17/tnt16 prepackaged hybrid
I'm using Rpm blast and sensation on mains on ps97L at 58.. Snaps too quick for my liking... Any suggestions to benefit less breakage..? Thanks from NZ
String with alot lower tension. 58 lbs is way too high for a poly, especially Rpm blast. String it at 50 lbs and feel the snap back, strung too tight, the strings won't pass over each other too well. Poly should be strung low. 👍🏻
Do more suggestions of full poly hybrid
Man ur shop is excellent where it is
Babolat natural gut mains tour bite soft cross at 48# for me
By the way, great video!!!
What about Vanquish main and Confidential on cross?
I’d do Hyper G in the mains and Vanquish in the crosses. About the same softness, but more control.
@@djreneschoo why not vanquish in the mains for comfort?
@@PokeMech That could also be an option, but that’s a lot softer than vanquish mains and confidential crosses
@@djreneschoo what's the implication for softer combination?
It just about preference. Softer feel & less control vs more connected feel & more control
Solico Hyper g/vanquish
Tried confidential 16l mains with x one biphase crosses was very impressed .
I use volkl cyclone 18 on mains and cheap cheap head syn gut on the cross. I now have cross on 2lb higher tension to get less pop from the syn gut. But I need to try fliping the tension around as I need It may give me more spin that way
Can I do HyperG and TNT?
Probably. I use hyperG and vs touch
Hybrid strings bring another level of complexity to tennis geekdom. What combination of strings gets you what characteristics? What tension on the mains vs the crosses? Madness ensues!
@@jackgillet3800 what a stupid hybrid, the hyper g cuts onto the vs
@@msalvs it actually doesn’t cut as bad as you think. You probably think it cutting like rpm but it doesn’t surprisingly
I use vs touch(50crosses) and HyperG (52mains)
I’m homeless I hybrid Gosen Polylon and Prince Tournament Nylon.
wait if u play everyday, wouldn’t it break in like a week LOL how does it last a month HAHA
:)
Natural gut Mains 27kg / Luxilon Alu Rough Crosses 25.5 kg
Best of the best :)
I tried to cross with All power to get more durability out of the gut, but found the Alu power rough has better snap back. Going back to the rough version.
If I’m poor, would dental floss work?
I wanna try fishing lines! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
@@michaellee7892 I’m sure you’re just saying that but fishing line is actually expensive.
I use guitar strings...
@@ticklemybrain1 You must ‘play’ a mean game. 😆
hahaa... I even tried my weed wacker "stihl" strings. Works just as well :-)
Huh, mechanical genius, on the rough is easier to glide?! against physics
Poors mans choice 🤣🤣
This guy has zero clue!
What's the best tension for Solinco confidential on mains and Tecnifiber Triax OR X-one Biphase on the crosses?
