By far the funniest Lunchtime episode to date 😂
This is why I love Smosh as a company and Ian and Anthony as people. Because while this will always be their company, they aren’t pushing themselves to be the center of attention. They’re more focused on showcasing their wonderful team (behind and on camera) and I think it shows just how strong this brand has become. They’ve gone through the wringer as a channel, and now they’re at a really strong point and they absolutely deserve it.
The reality is that Ian and Anthony make the same money if they put in incredible effort or not, but the majority of the cast probably gets paid by the appearance or the writing credit. Having more people in more things spreads around the opportunities and the paydays. SNL has a heavy turnover of cast and writers because people just burn out, you have to elevate the people who have the energy in the tank so they can carry the show forward. Smosh is proving to be a generational channel now, and this generation of talent are coming into their own.
@MykalNines Hmm Idk about the payment thing. Seems like they are present the same amount of time as before. They just dedicate their time differently. Also I doubt the credit does anything in regards to payment.
I'm sure they operate the same way many others do, pay by shoot day and not based on what is being done.
@MisaelMatute76 I'm pretty sure writers get paid for writing and actors fet paid for acting. When you do sketches, people write those who often times don't act in them. The games they play aren't scripted so those would be paid by shoot day, but sketch comedy is different
@@MykalNinesThis seems like an extremely limited view of what members of Smosh do each day. Most days are not shoot days, but the employees are still working behind the scenes. I doubt anyone is being paid just for shoot days or just by appearance because they all do multiple jobs within the company. Also, to say that Ian and Anthony would make the same amount of money regardless of how much effort they put in is ridiculous. They aren't just actors, they run a company. The "effort" you see on screen or the number of videos they appear in is a tiny fraction of their job and probably one of the least stressful parts of it. If the owners of the company put in less effort, it would surely impact the company.
@@michaelmcleod6203most of the cast are (or were) freelance and got payed dayrate. Only courtney, shayne and Damien were fulltime for a while. Don't think Damien is anymore but Amanda is. Plus seems like Angela and chanse have become fulltime

Angela is always so great on the Smosh podcasts. She's become known for having goofy moments, but when she is in her element and talking about the arts and performing, she's got excellent insight.
I also really appreciated that they were aware of how the first few episodes of Bit City might get received and that they would be actively working to shape the show into something that works for the fans and themselves.

Honestly, a great bit for a future Bit City. Have Ian and Anthony hyping Angela up for her 'first show' (Deleted footage or something, for the bit) where they're hyping her up before the shoot, then they hit her with the 'Okay the spirit of Smosh and the future of this channel are riding on your shoulders.... Action!' and we just watch her break down on camera.

I’m an avid Smosh watcher and my thoughts on the first Bit City were 100% this has something to it and has that awkward pilot energy. I think the show can grow into its own. As Angela finds her voice as a host and as the show finds its legs it’ll develop a more coherent identity.
This is definitely Angela’s year. Bit City, Cinderella’s Castle, and Angela featured content! This is awesome.
Also, I totally understand wishing to be Italian, Erin. The woman who took care of me as a kid was married to an Italian and I always thought that was so cool and exotic.

It's so cool to hear Ian and Anthony kind of mentor and encourage Angela. You can really tell how masterful they are and their leadership qualities shine through super well. They really are a dynamic pair with how they bounce off of and elevate one another.
Love that smosh built enough in-house platforms to the point that cast members can go on in-house promotion tours for new projects.
Bit City is like the fully realized form of TNTL: workshopping jokes to see what works. Look at all the characters and long-running jokes that had their start on TNTL

13:17 So "Bit City" is like Dropout's "Game Changer". A main place to try out different fun ideas, and if one idea is really fun and gets high ratings, then they can ship it off to be it's own thing. Trying out new ideas where if an idea fails, recovery is not too expensive.

I have to clarify the murder suicide chicken story. Zankou chicken was a restaurant founded by Vartkes Iskenderian an Armenian Lebanese in the ‘60s, the chain expanded into the US in the ‘80s by his son Mardiros . In 2003 Mardiros who had a colon cancer at the time which had already metastasized into his brain got into a fight with his sister at his mother’s house and then he killed her and killed the mother and subsequently himself. It was thought that the metastasis in his brain was responsible of his erratic behavior. He didn’t kill himself cause he found out he had cancer like Ian said.

3:21 Fun fact: (as someone who took one semester of Italian with a professor actually from Italy), the reason why you might find Italian Americans (2nd gen or further) clip vowels while relatively newly immigrated Italians or Italians that speak the language add vowels to the end is becuase BOTH these things are true. More specifically, in Naples their dialect tends to clip the vowels off the end, which is how you get things like mozzarella -> mozarel, calamari -> galamad, capocolla -> gabagool combined with the American accent/rules of speaking. So what this tends to mean is a wave of people immigrated from that area or an area with a similar dialect and of course established their own communities with specific ways of speaking that is passed from gen to gen.
I would really love if they had some Let’s Do This segments on future Bit City episodes.

18:30 angela hit the nail on the head for me!! a lot of smosh scripted content doesn’t land for me and with my sense of humor but EVERY single video that has some form of improv is always hilarious!! i think it does have something to do with seeing the real side of you guys and watching you try and do a silly character, vs just seeing a silly character at face value.
I hope you guys bring more funeral roasts to the main channel, even with less budget compared to the Anthony one, considering it will not be behind the paywall. I really like them , watched them multiple times, and would love to see new ones

I think Ian's hit the nail on the head at 17:00 there. So much of the fun of watching your favourite online creators, at least for me, is in watching them have fun RIGHT THEN AND THERE. I'm sure it's great fun to make movies and plays etc, but when you perform those, you have to stay professional and to the script. The art and core if improv as a whole is that whatever happens, it's created in that moment. And being able to see that captured on screen is what feels like true magic.

As an actual italian from Italy watching this I just want to thank Angela for specifying she's Italian American, not Italian. Very different things.
I for one loved Bit City. Been watching smosh since i was a cruton-small carb- and the format was honestly refreshing. Definitely think you should do more, shit was incredibly entertaining.

Actually, in Italy we would pronounce "Giarratana" more like Erin did! And fun fact, Giarratana is also a small village in Sicily (less that 3000 people live there)!

y favorite part about these episodes are when they go on a tangent about something in the past and we just get to see them talk about what they love. Has to be on of the most real things to watch!
My fav parts of shows like Carol Burnett or Johnny Carson (yes I'm old, hush) was when they would break or ad lib & they were having fun & I feel that you guys have done that w Bit City & TNTL etc. Is a nice break from the crap in the world. Yo, the thing Anthony said about thinking about the concept of nothing as a child? I did that ALL THE TIME as a young child and I've always wondered if that's a common thing or not. I've been having mini sudden existential crises for as long as I've had long-term memory.
When I was a kid I had almost the opposite kind of crisis where I was just really scared of the idea of infinity. I was trying to get my mom to explain where the sky ended and I just couldn't handle the idea that it had no fixed beginning and end. I spent months pestering her about it lmao
i was scared of dying as a young kid, not because i was scared of dying specifically but because i was scared of my family grieving me lol. talk about people pleasing tendancies from a young age ✌️
