That's great. Thanks for sharing. I've been cutting down alcohol almost completely. I'm not much of a drinker anyway but it's just hard to recover. Getting old. I'm in the best shape of my life and I still think I have a ways to go. Keep it up! Definitely inspiring.
Thank you my friend. I gotta work hard for Whitney this September. My mild injuries (knee and now back strain) have set me back a bit but having something difficult to work towards keeps me going. And having a brother who races 250 frickin miles gives me extra motivation I wouldn't have otherwise. Every year we get older makes it just a little bit harder, but that's okay. I'm starting to really like challenges :-) Keep at it bud! I'd love to see you at Whitney BTW ;-) You're in better shape than I was last year at this time so I know you can do it!
@@outsidewithmike Count me in! I've already mentioned it to family and while it looks it can be terrifying, I'm going to keep training and try to plan something. Maybe spend a day or two beforehand in Cottonwood and try to catch a Golden Trout while trying to acclimate to the elevation.
This is a wonderful share! It is always amazing to hear from other's about their journey! I have issues with my knees, too, but I still hike. Getting out there just feels better mentally 😊 2023 really was a good year! Never stop exploring ✨️
Thank you! It feels weird to post this but what the heck. Going for an easy hike right now. Knee is almost back to normal, strained my back recently though so... 🙂
congrats on your sobriety journey! hiking is a way for me to navigate through depression! It is a way for me to reconnect to what matters, and improve my physical health. The hikes in CA are so beautiful. happy trails, Mike!
Hey thank you so much! My depression is fairly mild but the weed made it so much worse. Doctors always told me this and they were right. And it didn't go well with medication I take. Glad hiking is helping you so much!!! Keep it up, it's great to hear!
I'm so, so proud of you for your decision to improve your health and well being and also for this video to share with others. Come back up to Oregon for a visit soon! I love you so much and look forward to enjoying life with you through your videos and willingness to expose yourself to everyone who sees them. 🥰
My amazing brother, I am so proud of you. I’m so happy you found your inner peace. I loved spending time with you when you were here and can’t wait to do it again and get some more hiking in with you. I’m so glad you shared this video. It’s important not only to you, but to your family, friends and for others who may be feeling similar and looking for some inspiration. Love you!
Brother Mike. What a fantastic video. I'm truly blessed to have you in my life, and to see the transformation you've undertaken. It's stories like yours that inspire me to stay sober, in the hopes it attracts others to this new way of life. We have many adventures ahead. A pretty good sized one in about 3 days! Can't wait to expose you to more of my crazy Ultra tribe. And I'm proud of you for the courage to 'come out', as it were. There's nothing that will release the weight of the world off your shoulders like admitting to the universe what you are experiencing. We have a phrase in AA, and I think you touched upon it with your newfound feeling about life: "Wear Life Like a Loose Garment". See you tonight.
Thank you brother Matt! Waiting for my Lyft to take me to the airport. Can't wait to get started! And for anyone reading this who wants to see what running a 250 mile race looks like, click on Matt's user name above and watch his video. Thanks for everything, Matt, you're the man! Hey maybe we should put that Baja 1000 video on your channel?
