You forgot to mention that it was a 3D movie, which probably makes the undewater sequences even more remarkable, technically and artistically speaking.
I met Ricou Browning (Swimming Creature) a couple of years ago at the Mad Monster Party convention in Charlotte, NC. Poor guy was sitting at a table with no one talking to him. I bought the DVD pack of the black lagoon films and he signed them for me. Nice guy... When I left that day, I thought, "Wow, I just met the creature from the black lagoon." Fun nerdy stuff! lol Side note- Julie Adams was quite the hottie back in her day. And she still beautiful today.
I absolutely loved "The creature from the black lagoon" I saw it on a Black & White television as a child. I always sympathised with the creature. I even had a model of the creature my Mum bought as a kit. Thank you for the review.
How did I miss seeing this? I was a kid when this movie came out, and I loved the scifi/creature feature movies of the time. 'Them', which came out the same year, is my favorite of the genre. But I never saw this one. I will now, though. Thanks for the review and the recommendation, Steve.
+Kaycee K Well, I wasn't going to watch it. (Even though it's cued up on my computer right now, the RUclips version anyway.) But since you insist, your wish is my command!
+Tom McDonald Just finished watching it for the first time. The print was not good, but it was a satisfying horror-creature movie. I can see why so many people like it so well!
+Kaycee K The version I saw was dark, except for a lighter bit in the middle of the screen. After seeing it, I got recommendations on RUclips for other presentations that were nicely clear and bright. I will probably have to watch it again in a cleaner version to get the full fun of it. Maybe next Halloween?
Excellent review, Steve. Spot on! I didn't realize it was purely going to be monster movies, apologies for suggesting Five Million Years to Earth the other day, wouldn't fit the theme. But it was a great film that you should check out if you get the chance. :-)
Love, love, love this movie!! One of my all-time favorite horror/scifi movies. I felt empathy for the creature just as I did for the Frankenstein monster and Larry Talbot's Wolfman. If it wasn't for these types of movies I definitely wouldn't be the horror/scifi nut that I am today.
I love this film, there is no question about it, but answer, please: Where "Toby Benson Wants His Money" is broadcasted? When will you chronic that film? We want to see it!
I saw this movie in 1955 - I was 8. I didn't find it a bit scary and I remember feeling sorry for the creature. It was the first "horror" movie I ever saw. We got our first TV the next year and that's when I saw "Them". Another great, though a bit campy, horror movie.

+Tom McDonald You must! Post haste! It truly is an iconic creature feature contribution, and a personal favourite of mine.

My absolute favorite film of all time. ALL TIME.
Loved, absolutely love, the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" when I was a kid. Even saw it in 3-D in a rented out movie theater.
Great review Steve

Really surprised he didn't mention Richard Denning's famous wife...

This is my favorite classic monster movie 🍿 ❤
well that's it then. Tomorrow I'll watch this movie with my wife.
there is a scene you forgot where the creature attacked the people where they found the fossil unprovoked
True, but even that could be seen as a wild animal attacking intruders in its territory.
Maybe they did something to the creature off camera

You forget he killed the two employees at the beginning. Gillman was a dangerous predator!🪒
He was an animal protecting his territory.
Julie Adams is one of the most beautiful actresses who has ever lived.
OCEANMAN!!!
I really liked monster movies as a kid, but for the most part they didn't really scare me. This one fucked me up.
maybe we could talk Donald Trump to play the creature.
