- Monstera adansonii (Swiss Cheese Plant) Propagation - A full demonstration on how to propagate this indoor plant also known as Monstera Monkey Mask or Monstera friedrichsthalii
We show how to propagate both in water and in soil. Includes Hormone rooting powder, Two Types of cuttings, Fertilising and Potting up.
It’s easy to grow new Monstera adansonii from your current plant and there are two ways to do this demonstrated in this video.
The first is tip propagation, the second is from stem cuttings.
And both of these methods can be used for growing in water, or in soil.
So lets take a step by step look at how to propagate Monstera adansonii, from cutting to brand new plant.

This is great propagation video, thank you!
This is extremely helpful thankyou so much
Perfect, thank you! I was wondering how to take a cutting of my monkey mask as a gift for a friend, so thank you!
And thanks for watching.
Looks nice 🌱 can't wait for warm weather to come 🌞 thank you for your wonderful videos 👍🏻
Thanks for that, actually very cold and raining when we completed that one, however, it does go to show that you can do this indoors with very little equipment. Yes, warm weather would be nice...
Thank you that is just what I was looking for to check my new growth
Thanks for watching.
Another interesting video, thank you 👍🏽👍🏽💚
Glad you enjoyed it
Mine sat in water for 4 months and never got a root. Gave up and put it in soil
What happens to the original plant u cut from? Does it die off or keep growing?
It keeps growing.
I am water propagating like you showed. After a week the ends seem like they are hard/calloused over. Will roots not grow if that happens?
Yes, they should still grow roots. Let us know how it goes.
I’ve never placed mine in soil, july makes a year
Mines do better in water
Great video, but I never understand why plant people wouldn't know you cut it and stand it in water, end of story.
Many people are unsure as to how to make the cuts, so that the starting point. Also the two methods are different, the soil method actually easier, as you plant them and leave them. Also you get more cuttings with that method. Also when and how to transplant the water cuttings, So more to it than meets the eye if you look closely.
@@johnnyAGardening We all learn by trial and error, it can root wherever you make the cut. Have you never just cut a piece of stem and rooted it?
@@musicalmarion You really need a node on the stem to get roots, as it sends out the roots ( and leaves) from nodes HOWEVER the cutting does not need leaves, just nodes. Success rate is much higher if it has leaves as well.
We have never tried an internodal piece of stem as that should not work, Have you made that work ? If so we will try it next time we take cuttings.
