She was often called the Female Brando.and Marlon said after watching Kim Stanley's performance in the TV adaptation "Perhaps the most brilliant interpretation of one of Tennessee's characters since Vivien Leigh in A Streetcar Named Desire."
Kim Stanley is a legend! So glad to see her with Jessica Lange. This is the BEST version of "Cat" I've ever seen. Both actresses were flawless in the film "Frances." Watch for the documentary "The Needs of Kim Stanley" in Jan. 2015.
THE greatest actress - of any time or language - i have ever seen. I love Page, Evans, Dennis, Harris, Redgrave, Streep and Rowlands - but none can quite match this genius' raw and volcanic intensity.

I agree! People like this Big Mama are one reason I left the South for NYC as soon as I was old enough! Stanley nails that « Southern denial » thing perfectly.

Stanley is just titanic as Big Momma. A truly great actor takes command of her stage. So glad I was able to watch this.

I've watched this several times. I don't think acting gets better than this, from the entire cast. But Stanley is just devastating.
such a brilliant performance. it's a shame she didn't make more films but even a deeply flawed film like the Goddess really gives you a glimpse at the range and frickin depth of the human being.

Never saw a production of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" where the cast all sounded like they came from the same area of the South. That said, and ignoring the lousy audio that fades in and out, some of the performances here are worth every second. Jessica Lange is not directed well, but she's the Maggie that Tennessee Williams wrote. Tommy Lee Jones is wrong, just wrong. But Kim Stanley and Rip Torn sure can make ham a tasty treat.

While Jessica Lange was brilliant in Frances as well as Kim Stanley, the same cannot be said of this TV appearance. Again, Stanley takes your breath away, but there's a similarity to The Goddess. She was no beauty, no Marilyn Monroe who she was playing, but her performance overrides all that. Stanley was the very essence of acting. Lange is one deminsional, no Elizabeth Taylor that's for sure.
