I think she did a wonderful job. It's strange how someone so beautiful could convince you that she was a no-nonsense, plain, efficient, prickly-loyal secretary; but she did. The period clothes and makeup-hair looked splendid on her. She did not seem a secondary character; but, like Captain Hastings, seemed an integral part of the stories.
You might think I’m crazy. I’d been watching Agatha Christie’s Poirot again and again! I watched them a thousand times and I felt entertained!!! Thank you for the big four!!!!
You are not alone. My family and I have watched it many, many times over the years along with Joan Hickson’s Miss Marple, Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes, and the 1985 version of Mapp and Lucia!
Thank you so much, can’t imagine anyone else playing Miss Lemon. I think that’s the best acclaim anyone can give a show. You couldn’t imagine anyone else playing any of the main characters. Thank you 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
I always enjoyed Ms Moran's work as Felicity Lemon. Her control of her facial muscles was fantastic! She could manage the most fleeting run of emotions over her face as her character would try to contain her thoughts and emotions over something Poirot had said or done. So much "said" with barely any movement. Thank you for this lovely video!
I honestly feel that I couldn’t see any other actors playing the parts of the four main characters. They seem like a family and Pauline was like the glue that held them all together
I've been a fan of Miss Lemon for a long time. The actress is certainly not "ugly", not even as the embodiment of a model of efficiency and sharp observation.
The productions that featured David Suchet, Pauline Moran and Hugh Fraser are such a delight. Not only for their chemistry, but the lighting, the warm-looking film stock and the overall charm. This was missing noticeably on the David Suchet's solo films, which I never revisit, whereas the former I do. The 1990s Poirots were certainly a golden age production-wise.
Happy anniversary to Pauline Moran today! They took lots of liberties with Miss Lemon's personality in the television series. She was very plain, indeed without lots of imagination and very reserved and moreover, she was not mentioned in every story. She was mostly in the shadows. They added her in many episodes because she brought a plus. Thanks🎉
It's hard to believe, but it was a mere coincidence that I released a video on her birthday - just by reading your comment I realised how cool is that indeed!
Having my memory refreshed now, I'm convinced her knit jumpers must have been based on actual 1930s patterns, the aesthetic is so spot on. And she carried it all so well!
They became family in a sense for me. Loved Miss Lemon, Frasier, Japp, and Poroit. When some were deleted later on it was like deleting family. Just couldn’t get over it and I re-watch those with all of them. To this day I don’t understand why they would do such a thing. I have a grudge against those that hacked off half the charm.
I always loved Miss Lemon, and missed her badly, when she left the series! 😥❤ And I always thought, she was very beautiful, and had a lot of style; I loved her elegant clothing! Happy birthday, beautiful and talented Pauline Moran! ❤
We dedicated fans of 'Poirot' absolutely LOVE Pauline Moran as 'Miss Lemon' ('Miss LAY-Mon' as Poirot calls her!). She makes every scene she is in even more special simply because SHE is in it! Beauty, Brains, Talent, and Charm!
Thank you for your investigations and insight. I certainly knew Pauline Moran from Poirot and she was fantastic as Miss Lemon. I did NOT know she was in several bands! This Poirot series is dear to my heart (as is Jeremy Brett as Sherlock). I do love a good mystery. Thank you again.
Her portrayal of the Woman in Black frightened the hell out of me at the time. Every time I see her in Poirot, it reminds me of that film and puts the hairs on my neck up. A fine actress ideal to play the no nonsense Miss Lemon
Good to know I'm not the only one who was terrified by Pauline Moran's performance in The Woman In Black. I first saw that movie as a kid in the late 90s, & she was so good in that role that to this day the image of Pauline Moran as the woman in black, (particularly in "that scene" near the end), is still the stuff of my nightmares.
She looks so perfect in period dress. She was very smart to accept roles that suited her so well, even when some of the characters were much less attractive than she was herself.
Pauline Moran shares her birthday with my father, although he is 10 years older. This is appropriate to mention since he and my mother were the ones to introduce me to Poirot. I'll never think about Miss Lemon without the scene at End House where she is forced into leading the séance... "Is anybody there...?" 😂😂 Happy birthday, Miss Moran! You have been a large part of my life.
Nicely done Marina. You always offer a balanced and convincing overview that fills in the blanks for some of us and provides a fresh introduction for others. Your clips from the Poirot series look extraordinarily sharp and clear as indeed do other edited fragments of work. I think I first saw her, to be aware of, in The Good Soldier with Jeremy Brett and Susan Fleetwood where she was striking for her grecian profile. Soon thereafter, came the Poirot experience and I was reunited with that profile. It's extraordinary how they all aged in real time. Such a long run. Success failure ? I should say success. I don't suppose her musical explorations were too distracting and many actors learn to be philosophical about their careers. She has her own kind of 'star turn' with Poirot all the more apparent for being just off to the side and in subtle ways, much brighter than Poirot and Hastings.
Miss Lemon was a smart classy beauty. An irreplaceable character in the Poirot series. My favorite episodes had her, Poirot, Hastings, and Japp solve the murder. Perfection in every way!❤️
Thank you for this video! I have always adored Ms. Moran's performances as Miss Lemon. I think its a shame she was not used more in television and film. She brought a touch of magic to everything I ever saw her in. Brava to you for this offering and to Ms. Moran for her fine entertaining performances.
Merci for this delightful mini biography. These are truly dark days. Watching this has uplifted my spirits. I raise a glass of creme de menthe to you and Miss Lemon!
I was already a huge fan of Pauline Moran’s portrayal of Miss Lemon when I caught her in A Woman in Black one morning on A&E (this was around 1990 when A&E still stood for Arts & Entertainment instead of Awful & Embarrassing). Pauline Moran scared the daylights out of me in that movie. It was about 11am in the morning and I was watching it while doing the Nordic Track exercise machine (that time of day and exercising do not usually lead to becoming immersed in a film) and, when she appeared in the graveyard, I actually leaped and screamed! Whoa! She didn’t have to say a word of dialog; her intensity was that palpable, her huge, beautiful eyes dead and oozing malice. Another commenter mentioned her mastery of facial micro-emotions. I wholeheartedly concur; she is remarkable. I am so happy to have found this video and learned more about this fantastic woman!
She was so different, and so much more interesting, than the original character. The TV series did a lot of strange things to the original stories, but it did give Miss Lemon a twinkle!
Thank you for producing this lovely summary of Pauline Morgans career. I really love these Poirotgafsptations and feel like Suchet is the ultimate Poirot. Also really love Hugh Frasiers audiobooks. Also well done for doing a video in a language that is not your native. English pronunciation really isn't entirely logical from how it's written. Listening online to the pronunciation of similarly spelled words that sound very diffrent can be helpful. I have used Translate and the audio feature for foreign languages I want to learn.
If Miss Lemon lives in this digital era, she definitely will be a very successful Digital Documentation expert with her own specially design software! 😂😂
Pauline Moran is a brilliant actress and a beautiful woman whose beauty was enhanced by the clothes and the makeup she wore. Regarding the garments worn by the men I wish I could go back to that wonderful era! Every time I go out dressed like Captain Hastings people look at me as if I got off from a spaceship! 😁I love your channel. Greetings from Argentina! (How exotic! 😂)
Miss Lemon for Prime Minister; we all need a 'Miss Lemon' to sort the problems of the world out. Thank you for a thoughtful appraisal of this wonderful Actor & Character.
There is an episode where Miss Lemon adopts the cat of a murder victim. I ended up naming my Calico cat Miss Lemon and later got a tabby I named Agatha C. :)
Pauline Moran brought ms Lemon to life just wonderfully! Actually… based on the books… Well: I’ve always thought that Ms Lemon was “ugly” or unattractive to Hercule Poirot ONLY. Don’t ask me why… But I’ve read a lot of these books over the years & can’t recall ANY mention whatsoever about how men in general felt about her. She was clearly younger than Poirot, though, and a modern woman on top of everything “happening”, including the nightclub “Hell”. While Poirot supposedly favoured flamboyant, voluptuous women over “the modern woman”.
I remember her in a production at the citizens theatre Glasgow around 1976. She was a lead character in ‘woman in white’ (nor Wilkie Collin’s story) tied to a bed as a crazy nutjob and a lot of blood splashed all over the set. She was good and scary but It was fifty years or so ago and I don’t remember much more. Giles Havergal was artistic director of the cuts at that time.
Poirot is our favorite Christie detective. Miss Lemon and the Captain were just as important to us as Hercule Poirot. I do admit that after watching others play the part, no one is as good as David Suchets as Poirot. We've watched every episode over and over. I hope that whatever they're doing, they are well. As many times as I've seen Miss Lemon, I don't believe I have ever noticed her ring with the green stone. Now I want to know what the stone is. Does anyone know?
Poirot is popular in Slovakia, over dubbed to local language. I enjoy the Deco period furniture and architecture and the small references to the pre WW2 politics.
perhaps the great Agatha Christie found it easier to make her unattractive to explain the depth of her obsession for filing and perfection. But it is a great actress that can convince us so easily that her good looks were not a distraction, but rather part of her unique autonomous perfection.
She was perfectly casted beautiful actress wish I could have seen her in many other things might make a note of checking what else she has done. Gold stars to the wardrobe department amazing dresses and hair and makeup. She is the scene stealer :) Love her and Hastings watched I think at least 20 times the whole series. I wish we had seen more of her home life and about her maybe one day someone will do a prequel as to the life of this character before she met Poirot. I know she isn't a lot in the books and so glad she was in the adaptations. I also wish she and the rest of the cast would have been given cameos in the recent films it's only right that they would have been. I will have to do some research now won't I Ms Via thank you for reminding me of this wonderful talented lady.
From across the pond. Thanks to our PBS stations a number of "Commonwealth" shows reach these shores. A mystery fan of TV, movies, and novels. It was not hard for me to confuse Ms. Moran as the daughter or possibly wife of Inquiry Agent S, Holmes nemesis, Col. Sebastian Moran. Narragansett Bay.
Outside of the office, we really don't know much about Ms. Lemon. Unlike the other characters, Ms. Lemon remained anonymous. We know there was no inappropriate relationship between she a Poirot because we knew where his pseudo romantic focus lie.
Thank you for giving Pauline Moran well deserved attention. She was a delight to watch, as was the ensemble!
I agree wholeheartedly! What a damn fine show! (How English! 😂😂😂)
Same here
I absolutely love Miss Lemon, played by Pauline Moran.
Thank you for featuring her!
From Japan with love💖
I completely agree
Thank you so much, can’t imagine anyone else playing Miss Lemon. I think that’s the best acclaim anyone can give a show. You couldn’t imagine anyone else playing any of the main characters. Thank you 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
Love this childfree cat woman! She was perfect in this role!
I always enjoyed Ms Moran's work as Felicity Lemon. Her control of her facial muscles was fantastic! Well said!
I honestly feel that I couldn’t see any other actors playing the parts of the four main characters. They seem like a family and Pauline was like the glue that held them all together
This is the best Poirot casting. It's hard to enjoy any other portrayals.
Very good observation, I agree with you. Sometimes a group of actors becomes "a dream team"
I think a different production company took over and wanted a darker approach to the films. I love the earlier ones best.
You never know the gems you can find when you go down the rabbit hole.. this was so enlightening! thankyou!
oh, such a pleasure to read your review, thank you!
I agree a wonderful look at her life and the character of Miss Lemon.
I can't imagine anyone else as Miss Lemon.

@@marina_via and I thought that it was planned. Happy coincidence!
Love this series and love Agatha Christie…they truly cast this series so well. Thankyou for such great entertainment 😊
Glad you enjoy it!
Her costumes were impeccable! A fabulous actress!
Having my memory refreshed now, I'm convinced her knit jumpers must have been based on actual 1930s patterns, the aesthetic is so spot on. And she carried it all so well!

Just couldn’t get over it and I re-watch those with all of them. To this day I don’t understand why they would do such a thing. I have a grudge against those that hacked off half the charm.
In fact, they didn't figure in a majority of the novels and short stories, so it's Agatha Christie's fault really.
I always loved Miss Lemon, and missed her badly, when she left the series! 😥❤
And I always thought, she was very beautiful, and had a lot of style; I loved her elegant clothing!
Happy birthday, beautiful and talented Pauline Moran! ❤
Happy 77th birthday to Pauline Moran!
She's a fabulous talent. Thank you for this!

Pauline Moran is a very beautiful woman!

She was PERFECT! Let's wish her a lot of health and long live!❤❤❤
I never for one minute thought Miss Lemon had anything but a professional relationship with Poriot and never heard any Poriot fans saying otherwise
I always had a thing for her in Poirot! That alabaster skin is too beautiful!!
Always loved Pauline, thank you.
Pauline Moran shares her birthday with my father, although he is 10 years older.
This is appropriate to mention since he and my mother were the ones to introduce me to Poirot.

Thank you for sharing this personal story of yours, so touching!
@@marina_via Thank you! I love your channel!!
thanks, Marina! another interesting episode.
An interesting life doing things you love is the definition of true success. Pauline did that and also brought joy to millions of people.
Great , perfect, casting 🎉🥳🥳🥳
Loved her character. Now it's time for a rewatch.
A memorable voice and captivating eyes. Pauline was perfect for the role of Miss Lemon.

thank you for sharing your experience and opinion, really interesting!
I love Miss Lemon’s fashion😊It suited her very well.
What a wonderful lady. Amazing actress. Love Miss Lemon ❤
And that subtle humor, always, I love her!
She gave a wonderful interview on The Labors of Hurcule podcast. If you haven't looked it up, it's totally worth it.
love her, she was priceless in Poiret......
Miss Lemon was a smart classy beauty. An irreplaceable character in the Poirot series. My favorite episodes had her, Poirot, Hastings, and Japp solve the murder. Perfection in every way!❤️

Thank you very much!
Miss Lemon was a treasure!
This production for me is the definitive collection. Have seen all of them a few times over the years. All very well acted.
I loved your post about Pauline and the insight into a beloved character so much I just subscribed.!! thanks again😍
Yay! Thank you!
Lovely video as always. I love all videos of your channel.
Oh, thank you so much for taking time to say that!
She was so different, and so much more interesting, than the original character. The TV series did a lot of strange things to the original stories, but it did give Miss Lemon a twinkle!
I loved Miss Lemon she was so precise and efficient a perfect complement to the great detective
Also loved the lady that played her sister Florence who ran a hostel one of my favourite episodes. 🤗🤗
Greetings from Colorado, USA. Superb ! THANK YOU.
Thanks!
Thank you👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🌺

There is a long tradition of Christmas ghost stories. "Christmas Carol" and "Canterville" come to mind.

Moran is just right. Good character.
Woman in Black is a very good movie ,the main character he later played Harry Potter's father .
Superb🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Pauline Moran played Miss Lemon perfectly
Casting was perfect 👌 😊
Love the hair, the dresses everything circa…. she was in a rock ‘n’ roll band when they asked her to play the part of Miss Lemon
Beautifully presented. Can't wait for more.
Nicely done!
Have you ever covered the career of Felicity Kendall or Penelope Keith? Both fantastic actors with long careers in British theatre.
No, not yet, thank you for suggesting them!
Pauline Moran brought ms Lemon to life just wonderfully!

ミスレモン演じるボーリンが大好きです 上品でとても素敵な女性です
Она замечательная , в сериале Пуаро просто супер 👏 ❤
I’ve always thought Pauline Moran to be uniquely beautiful.
Miss Moran is brillante I love her, too
I personally always thought Miss Lemon was more attracted to Hastings but was smart enough to know that they could never be anything but friends.

She was a bad ass guitarist of an all female band when she was younger.
I adored her clothes!

Gaaah the scenes from The Woman in Black are nightmare fuel!
I thought she was in a TV series called Birds of a Feather
