This game and colosseum holds a special place in my heart, cause it made me use pokemon i never even dreamt of using before, and now said pokemon are some of my favorites. They really deserve more love from the pokemon company
It was certainly a much more daunting issue in Colosseum since you didn't get the ability to purify until like a 3rd of the way through the story. Gale of Darkness gives it to you almost instantly.
So with the Pokésnacks, the pokemon you get is determined when your radar goes off. You can save before it goes off (with some dilligent effort) to reset for a better encounter, but once the radar goes off your encounter us locked in, but you can reset for nature, gender and I assume IVs
Came here to say this, I had a set up when I was trying tk shiny hunt where I had to walk one step at pyrite rigjt by the gate. I ended up getting a shiny sandshrew but unfortunately my gamecube memory card became corrupted and I lost the save data :(
This is basically what i'm doing on my first playthrough of XD currently, figured i'd leave my Shadow Pokémon as default to transfer to my Leafgreen. Currently at Lugia and going to reset for a perfect IV
sorry for the rant but I have to get it off my chest: Bro you captured how it feels to play this game SO WELL, and at the same time you added your own unique and randomly hilarious interpretations ("fruity teen girl bop music") of events I know so well from my childhood, but haven't revisited with new eyes since I became an adult. You also captured what is missing from the current poketuber scene, where the playthrough style has been lost in favor of more bite-sized, whiplash-inducing highlight reels of how someone got through one of the main series games using only poison types or whatever-oh and it’s a hardcore nuzlocke. This video steps so bravely into a new direction, with a new kind of challenge (one that wouldn't even be possible in the main series games, by the way) and with such commitment to the execution of that challenge, with the commentary coming off more as a semi-unfiltered, politically incorrect without being offensive, improvised, Jungian (in that it invokes the collective unconscious so effortlessly, in an almost dreamlike way) reflection on the game, but also a reflection on the era in which it was released, and the era we’re living in now. To me, this is genius. I haven’t experienced a piece of media which has moved me so much in years. Maybe my whole life. Also bro holy shit you’re right, the red-haired cipher dude is totally our dad and the blue one somehow represents Jovie. Maybe Jovie is your half-sister and your mom just has two evil-but-to-varying-degrees baby daddies. At the very least they’re you and Jovie's “tethers” and are supposed to represent you somehow, with you being the moral compass older brother and the blue one being the younger and more rebellious younger sibling. I obviously have way more to say about this but I've already said too much -
Interesting how you decided to approach the run! I would've built my team differently: Umbreon is honestly a horrible option in XD: every eeveelution deals more damage with bite and gets extra STAB. it lasts a while on the field but there's pokemon that can do that and deal damage. Jolteon and Espeon are good choices, but I probably would've run with Flareon if I used the Eeveelution for the whole run. Most of this team lacks special bulk, which isn't a huge issue until you fight Greevil. Flareon can sit on the field safely and kill stuff with Flamethrower and Shadow Ball, in addition to supporting with Helping Hand. As for my choices from the pokespots, I'd make use of Aggron, Donphan, Masquerain, Jumpluff, Crobat, and if I didn't use flareon, Quagsire. Aggron walls shockingly well in XD, since most of the special shadow moves suck, and the dangerous ones are all physical. you're getting hit with fighting, ground, and water types moves less cause of shadow pokemon's prevelence in the lategame, so stuff won't oneshot you all the time. Other than that, you can get Double-Edge from the move tutor for easy coverage (get an aggron with rock head: no recoil!), plus Iron Tail and Earthquake. Iron Defense lets you become invincible against any physical team, which is important for shadow lugia since you want to catch it without the master ball so you have it for Greevil. Donphan appreciates Body Slam being available from the move tutor, since it gives him a much better offensive move in the early game. Apart from that, you might consider giving them Iron Tail from Realgam colosseum. Donphan is another hard hitting physical wall you can use when facing someone with fighting or ground moves. Masquerain's stats are quite bad, but it's a flying type which means it's immune to earthquake. It's main purpose is to intimidate the foe, use one move, and then probably die. Its best use is making use of Sweet Scent to lower the evasion of both enemy pokemon, giving moves with 75% accuracy a 100% chance to hit (so iron tail, sleep powder, and maybe some other moves). You won't really be dealing much damage, but if you want to try you can give it Blizzard via TM (93% accurate after sweet scent). Jumpluff is useful for what you used it for in the video, fast sleep powders! It doesn't do much else, but it doesn't really need to. Earthquake immunity is very useful. I'm not at all surprised that Crobat didn't evolve for you when you played, friendship gain is very slow in XD. You probably should've given it the soothe bell, and could also have caught it in a luxury ball if you waited till the S. S. Libra. It isn't great, but Sludge Bomb deals good damage, which you can supplement with Wing Attack and Shadow Ball (if not using flareon). Overall it's really just another pokemon immune to earthquake. Sandslash, Gligar, Quagsire, and Flygon don't really have room on the team. I already used earthquake on Aggron, and their movepools kinda suffer for that. Sandslash and Quagsire do OK thanks to brick break but the others are kinda stuck. Quagsire I think kinda works thanks to Water Absorb giving us an answer to water types, Brick Break + Natural Earthquake at a reasonable level, Amnesia for Greevil, and Yawn.
I am barely into the video but I can already tell you put a lot of effort into the video! It's always awesome to see people do challenge runs in this game.
