    • Always Only Jesus
Karl Marx insisted that “religion is the opium of the people,” while Napoleon Bonaparte suggested that “religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.” But within the broad category of religious belief are ideologies and practices that are dangerous and silly because they distract people from the essence of truth. God made it simple by having His Son do for us what we could never do on our own-reach God! Religion takes what is simple and merely complicates it.
This teaching is from the series Always Only Jesus with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

This is the umpteenth time I was talking to someone about a topic today and then lo and behold, Pastor Skip clarifies the exact same topic I was discussing mere hours before. Folks, THAT is the Holy Spirit and how it works!! Not only did I feel guilty about missing church this Sunday, and yet again, the topic of what day you worship is ALSO discussed. Need I say more as to why Skip Heitzig is my pastor, and CalvaryAbQ is my church? From an island in the Pacific ocean: G-d Bless!

Everything in this sermon is questions that have been on my mind as of late. Thank you Holy Spirit for providing me with the truth!!🙏 I have been one of those people who knitted together my own religion, a bit of this, a bit of that, and it of course got me nowhere..to put it mildly. It left me feeling empty and lost. But about three months ago now I invited Jesus into my life, received him as my Lord and saviour, and EVERYTHING is different!! I too, like Skip, am now reading the Bible everyday and so thoroughly enjoying it (I have tried to read it before, but I didn't feel like I understood any of it, it didn't speak to me). I have a hunger for God's Word now. Spending time in the Word and with Jesus, praying, reading, etc. I am experiencing a fullness and joy of life that I didn't know existed. All I can say is: Jesus is REAL!!💟 Thank you God for not giving up on me in my journey back to your truth💞🙏 You know it took me some time to get there.
I am so thankful for this ministry! Love from Denmark

    ORDINANCES
Paul was an old testament scholar from boyhood and would have been well familiar with the below passages and the "ordinances" which were attached to them, all of which regard all the things Paul said not to accept Judgment for..
The NKJV translates "grain" instead of "meat" in all of these Old Testament offerings, and from here on we will refer to it as a grain offering rather than a meat offering. Colossians 2:14-17 is used by some to say that when Jesus died on the cross he nailed the ordinances, such as keeping the Sabbath day, to the cross, so that we do not have to keep it any more. The key verse in this scripture is verse 16, where 5 things are mentioned: meat, drink, a feast, a new moon, and a Sabbath. Whenever we get things mentioned together like these, and we wish to know what Paul is talking about, it is wise to consider where he gets them from. Remember that the bible for the early church was the Old Testament scriptures, so this is the obvious place to look.
    (Nehemiah 10:32-33) "Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God;
For the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God."
(1 Chronicles 23:31) "And to offer all burnt sacrifices to Yahweh in the Sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded to them, continually before Yahweh."
(2 Chronicles 2:4) "Behold, I build an house to the name of Yahweh my God, ... for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts of Yahweh our God."
(2 Chronicles 31:3) "He appointed also ... the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of Yahweh."
(Nehemiah 10:33) "For the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the Sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God."
(Ezekiel 46:4-6) "And the burnt offering that the prince shall offer to Yahweh in the Sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish.
And the grain offering shall be an ephah for a ram, and the grain offering for the lambs as he shall be able to give, and a hin of oil to an ephah.
And in the day of the new moon it shall be a young bullock without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram: they shall be without blemish."
Paul was referring to these Old Testament daily sacrifices in Colossians 2:16, but as is common in New Testament Greek there is a word missing (See: Find the Missing Words) in this quotation. It should read like this.
(Colossians 2:16) "Therefore, do not let anyone judge you in grain or drink offerings,"
Just as the words "grain" and "drink" were referring to sacrifice offerings made on certain days, even so, looking at the above scriptures, it becomes obvious that the words "feast", "new moon", and "Sabbath" always come together when referring to offerings made on those days.
Paul knew these scriptures, and he was referring to these offerings in Colossians 2:16, but as is habitual with New Testament Greek, he missed out a word: "offerings". This would not confuse the readers in those days, because the Old Testament was their bible, and they would know to look there to see what Paul was writing about, but it has allowed many to misinterpret what Paul was saying here.
So what "handwriting of ordinances" did Jesus blot out, "nailing it to his cross;" (Colossians 2:14)? We might argue that it couldn't refer to the ten commandments, because they were initially written by "the finger of God" (Exodus 31:18), not mans hand, and therefore they endure for ever (Psalm 89:34; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; 1 Peter 1:25).
The "law of commandments" referred to here is called a "law of carnal commandment" (Hebrews 7:16), and the "ordinances" referred to are called "carnal ordinances":
They are the ordinances to do with these sacrifices, some of which were man made.
    God bless you all!

Hello @Vegacool1! Thank you for watching and thank you for being a subscriber! Great Question!
We know from Matthew 5:17 that Jesus fulfilled the law “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill." The religious leaders of Jesus time did not understand that the Sabbath was something that as a principal of rest was important but that Jesus brought freedom from that law because he was the living embodiment of Love. And Love takes action even on the Sabbath. See Matthew 12:9-14 where Jesus heals on the Sabbath. Short answer yes Jesus kept the Sabbath but he also showed what happens when grace and the law meet. Hope this helps.

Sunday isnt sabbath, its the mark of the Roman Beasts authority. Jesus said " Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
    KJV - Matthew 15:8
Colossians 2 16 says sabbathS plural, not THE sabbath which is the opposite of "pointing forward to things to come" it points bavkwards to creation. Also its not a handwritten ordinance on paper its literally written in stone with Gods own finger.

  • @limjohnjohn5851
    @limjohnjohn5851 Год назад

So it's granted that the Sabbath belongs to the Old even the name itself. But in Mk 2:28 Jesus was called the lord of the Sabbath. Not only that I ln Heb 4:9 says the same thing,
9There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
It's obvious to believe that the Sabbath which had long been faded because it belonged to the old is repeatedly mentioned in the New testament.
So many Churches are teaching that Christianity is no longer bound to keep the laws of God or lawless churches in some form yet Jesus is telling the people in Matt 5:17 says,
17Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. 18For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

    • @paulbrennan4163

If you read Hebrews 4 slowly and carefully you will see that it does not refer to the sabbath commandment. In fact, the author tells us that God swore an oath that those who were given the commandment were never going to enter his rest.
Obviously, no one "enters" a commandment. On the other hand, when the Israelites were to "enter" the promised land they were promised rest from their enemies. This in turn foreshadows salvation through faith and not by works.
Notice in verse 10 that the author says "anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his."
So how did God rest from his works? He answers this in verse 5:
"his works have been *_finished_* since the creation of the world"
So does God work 6 days, rest on saturday, and then start working again? No, of course not. And that is why if you read through all the creation days in Genesis each day is delimited by "evenings and mornings" EXCEPT the seventh day. It is an _eternal_ day, without begining or end. Through Christ we also enter an eternal day of rest - a day that he calls "Today" (verse 7).
What day of the week is "Today". Is is a saturday? Is is a sunday? No, it is every day. No one has changed the sabbath, because the true sabbath is the rest we have in Christ, not a commandment given to the disobedient Israelites.

Hello Roy. I know you said you had never known or heard from Jesus. I'm going to throw this out there. There is a verse in Jeremiah: "You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart." And there are similar verses, like Proverbs 8:17(b): "Those who seek me diligently find me."
There was a time in my life when I doubted if I had really heard from God as a child, or if it was my big imagination. This was a time of great questioning for me, and in this time of questioning, examining and doubts, I felt quite far from God, and it was a very lonely, miserable place. But one day, I had a very real experience with Jesus; He pulled me out of my misery, and I cannot, will not doubt that moment. Life has its numerous tragedies and hardships, what secures my faith in Jesus more than anything else, is that I know He is with me and has never left me, even in the times of pain that I feel I can't hear His voice -- I look back, and notice He was there. He's changed my life, and I have seen Him change others. So when I see someone else has a question or doubt, I sincerely pray the Jesus will go beyond the pages of the book and into the reality of one's heart and existence.

I believe Jesus is enough. And there is nothing a sinner like me can do to attain salvation or peace.. It's all on Jesus.
I obviously m a clumsy follower of Jesus. Failing evry day. But He is my God.
I don't keep the Sabbath. But what joy would it be if I can keep it holy..
So yes we should not force anything on anyone...
    Thank God for that
Having said that, sabbath is cuz God rested on 7th day.. Right in Genesis... Before he ever made a covenant with "Israel" He made with human kind.
    I think we are human.
No pressure. But as wrong as it is to force sabbath on someone. It's wrong to say sabbath was for Israel. Even if it was. Today all who are grafted in by Christ is Israel.
Anyway. What do I know. Ill never be arrived.... And I'm going to be corrected all my life as life goes on.

    • @sibymathew7859

And, saying verses out of context we don't realise..... Let's not get carried away.. When Jesus said thus all purified as food. Is cuz he's drawing a paralel and measuring one with the other... And on a scale of purity.... Having exterior cleanliness is of no use when heart is wicked.. Is what he implies.. That don't mean... All crawling things are termed food... He is God himself. Who didn't define food on second thoughts in Leviticus.. But while he created everything he had a purpose for each created thing.
So I won't go to hell if I eat ham. But I might experience some health hazards... Cuz I'm eating what's not meant for food.
But that doesn't shut the door of Jesus towards me.
But that doesn't mean Jesus changed his mind in new testament.
He was telling us what is food in Leviticus. And he will always mean that. But he wanted us to know that it's not a matter of salvation. But of Him knowing why He made what He made, more than I as human could ever know.
And also Jesus knows if I ate ham all my life. I would find it difficult to leave it right away unless He enables me too.. And that should never be hindrance to be part of salvation. That's the point jesus is trying to make..
      There is no new covenant.
Covenant is same. people are new, the ones grafted in...
      And
There is no old and new testament.
It is scripture and then scripture shown how to be lived out by the very word Himself.
