    • Always Only Jesus
Today I am grateful to Mr. Dean Sicking, an American inventor who invented the first energy-absorbing guardrail for US roadways to keep our cars on the highway. But did you know there are also guardrails to keep our lives in the lane of God’s will? After describing the character of the new man (the saved and transformed person), Paul turns to our conduct. He gives to us four guardrails that will keep our lives “between the white lines” of the will of God.
This teaching is from the series Always Only Jesus with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

I read a book many years ago called " How to know and do God's will". The concept of the book is that God's will is not a point but a range. Do God has only one person you should marry, or God gives you some qualities and then you look for yourself. Is God's will a track or a trail? Does God show you which church to go or He just tells the importance of going to church? A friend used to say that when the girls is beautiful it is God's will and when the girls is not you say that you will pray about it. The Bible says that is God's will that all will be saved. Is everyone getting saved? In marketing we say that people make decisions emotionally and then try to justify logically. If you need a car you pray for a specific car, you pray for the money to buy a car or you pray for a good job so you can make a money and buy a car? Our mind always invents reasons to comfort our hearts. When we don't know we just say that is God's will to get some comfort. That is what Job's friends did and many pastors do. During the Pandemic I prayed for a job. The only job that showed up was terrible and caused me a lot of problems. I felt like a prayed for bread and got rock. Was that God's will? I've been trying to work for a certain company for 10 years. I've applied more than 150 times but never got a chance. Is it God's will? The truth is that we don't know God's will in a lot of things. We read the Bible and try to make good decisions but deep inside we do our will. Paul said that if you are married you do your wife's will. A few years ago, a handsome, famous Athlete became a Christian and started going to my church. Suddenly there were 10 women with confirmation from God that they should marry the guy, meanwhile Joe that had been going to the church for many years and was a faithful Christian never had someone with a message from God to marry him. We pretty much do our will and then try to justify as God's will.

Some or at times not "we" or always. Discernment comes with understanding and continually reflecting on the Word. There used to be a popular bumper sticker that read "don't believe everything you think." Same with understanding the will of God.

If it was God's that church was to use Instruments in worship why does is not show up in the New Testament church? Colossians 3:16 tells us how that God wants us to sing with all our hears. What it does not say is we can worship God however we want or add anything we want in worship.

Skip, you obviously haven't attended a Church of Christ or you would know better.
