Netflix is in need of some serious new environments. I hate that ski lodge with a passion its ugly and boring. Give me a cinema or better yet let me create a cool room myself
A year after this comment still no new environment lol.
I personally like the lodge it has a very relaxing atmosphere.
I got my go 3 days ago and am in love, everyone need to try it.
I think travel mode is for when you're in the car. You don't want the screen to move every time the car turns. Very nice feature.
Skybox is incredible. I love it.
I think travel mode switches off the compass so you don't suddenly face the back of the theater when the bus takes a u turn.
Fantastic! Now I just need to find someone to start driving me to work, so I can Netflix to and from the office.

Social theaters don't seem to work well because you're not supposed to talk during movies so it seems like it's pointless unless you're with an actual friend.
When I first used CineVR, there were a couple guys talking in the background which was surprising that it would be on by default. They spoke a different language but was still weird. You can mute everyone though. BigScreen is suppose to handle that pretty well.

There's a youtube cinema movie app on sideload VR that lets you play youtube videos on a virtual imax screen. It also supports 3D. Its a little rough around the edges, such as if any videos have strange characters in their names, it doesnt play them, but other than that its great. and you can walk around the cinema itself.
I hope they continue to develop it and allow it to log into your youtube account and bring up watch later, subscriptions etc.

For streaming content from your PC/Media Server to GearVR, there's none better than Pigasus. I was one of the very first testers on it and got a key and bought it when it was officially released. It's improved a bunch since it launched. Can be a bit fiddly to set up and you'll need a decent router to stream but the easiest method is to have Plex + Pigasus.
Unfortunately I don't have an extensive media catalog (I use to). Most of the movies I own digitally are on iTunes and I mainly stream content now a days. Have you tried the Plex Gear VR app?

Re Netflix VR: Travel mode makes the void screen gradually move to follow where your head turns instead of constantly having to tap outside the window to recenter it. Probably intended for flights / bus trips, but it's incredibly useful for long viewing sessions or chilling in bed. Also, I think there's been an update to Netflix VR as for me the void theater button is now on the top left of the red mantle.
Another great app to try is Samsung PhoneCast, which supports several streaming services (incl RUclips). Also, if you go into settings and enable the beta features mode it'll let you open almost any app on your phone on the vr screen, but sometimes apps won't work (e.g. there's no on-screen keyboard yet, so no opening your texts in VR)
I'll have to try that out on my next long trip. Guess the gradually movement is easy to miss on first glance.

Yep! I tried using my VR in the plane a few months ago and noticed it kept shifting off centre. I'd find myself turning bit by bit until (unintentionally) my face was directly towards my fiancé. It would be super awkward if the person beside you is a stranger so the travel mode is a lifesaver.

Great video! Exactly what I was looking for. I haven't tried VR yet. Do you find yourself using it more than your flat screen tv?
I use my tv way more... I mainly use the VR headset when I want to be in my own world without distraction or when gaming. Keep in mind that VR is still a long way from the picture quality of modern tvs.

You should be able to do that using BigScreen and a Windows PC. Also Oculus TV is suppose to support Netflix but not sure if it will just launch the Netflix app.

The Netflix VR app only allows for solo movie experiences. You should be able to watch Netflix with others using your Windows desktop screen with others on the Bigscreen VR app. Anyone try this? (I'm on a mac)

Is there something wrong with my go? I just got it and never had a vr before. Mine doesnt look anywhere near as clear as your video. My stuff looks verry blurry.

I prefer watching movies on the Oculus Go because of all the apps available and the freedom to watch anywhere I want.
One thing I would really love to have is an app where I'm in the movie theater and on the screen it will mirror my TV which has an Nvidia Shield so a movie theater app where on the screen is my Nvidia shield and I could just watch all my stuff from vrv premium to DC Universe or Google Movies. Just saying. Oh and I'm a little bit surprised that you did not talk about the Dropbox app.

I'm new to VR. Does the Oculus Go fill your field of view? Or is it just a rectangle screen in front of you like those cheap smartphone viewer head sets?
lol It's much better than the cheap headsets. Even better is an Oculus Rift (has positional tracking), but oculus go is good for media. :) We also have Oculus Quest coming in a few months!

I don't understand, what's the point of watching a movie or trailer in a fake VR room or fake theater? I tested Gear VR but the movie was 360 (some short movies), not a VR living room with a flat movie. That's a legit question btw.

The two main things you’ll get from VR cinema is scale and true 3D. Aside from the tech specs... it’s a great getaway no matter where you are as long as you include a good pair of headphones.

That was an older version of the app. The latest Netflix app is a bit different

If you have a Windows PC you might be able to stream your desktop to the Oculus Go using Bigscreen: ocul.us/2ASsuaD
Just play your apple tv movie in iTunes from your PC. (let me know if that works)

Both apps are available in the oculus store... maybe they are blocked in certain countries. Where are you located?

Can you lock the screen/view for netflix like you can in that cinema app?
By default the Netflix screen is locked to a position that you can't change but if you use the void theater mode, you can move the screen and lock it in a different position.
can you make the screen super massive? like as if your in a imax theater, where the screen engulfs you??
