Awesome video Mike, I'd already bought virtual desktop when it was early access on steam and I'm sure I emailed the developer and he gave me a key for the Oculus version, wonder if they'd do the same for Oculus go!
EDIT, actually now I think about it, a lot of work would of gone into making the go version and being able to stream your pc so I suppose it's only fair I should throw my money at it 😁
Great review. Thanks so much. Can't wait to get this one.
This is really cool man, carnt wait to try this for myself, thanks for the awesome video
Great video Mike! Was wondering how this would look like, so thanks! Now we just need a keyboard gloves....
Exactly! []-)
Many of us are working on that.

And Plexus Virtual Glove still working on materials

What this would look like.
How this would look.
Just helping. G'day
That 1st came out in the oculus DK days and I do consider that 1 of the top apps that are a must have. Its alwise updated and runs very good. Happy to see it making it to the oculus go and and soon to be Quest.
You look so happy just from posting a tweet :D. i like your english. its very understandable for noobs! id like to add that the Bigscreen can run max FullHD and if you own different VR platforms, then you should buy the Virtual Desktop on steam (its also cheaper there and Steam's return policy is more benevolent i think). But maybe for the best performance, via the Oculus app it's the best trade (?)
Many thanks for the review. Great job.
Mike, can you put together some information on how you have your audio cables laid out/configured for your headset.
Good evening Mike great video on virtual desktop. I would use this application for gaming and productivity if the game has no other form than a desktop form and I still want to play and I could still use it for word processing and voice typing. Have a good evening Mike.
Good video. I'm trying to subtitle your videos to Latin Spanish. I'm living in Argentina and i want the people who speak spanish can enjoy your videos so much. So.. let's dive in
Good for you! :) I wish more videos were subtitled/had closed captions (in general as I sadly don't understand Spanish) so thank you for the good work
Hey! I have a question about the audio when it comes to watching movies in a theater setting. So, is the audio standard like when you are watching a regular video through headphones or does it actually have the surround sound feel to them like in a real movie theater?
This is a thing I've really wanted for VR.. might actually get one
My only isues is wires look at these smartphon device's Sony has a calibrated Sony Xperia 4k HDR and with Shadow pc streaming service you can stream to your phone and use your phone as a monitor endless possibilities I love it no need to be tethered to wires I think the future is still on pc to 22k but if phones start becoming suitable for VR call it VR resolution lol oh yea have crisp quality picture without needing a big screen aswel just need to get these phone's so we can't see pixels at 2 inches from your eyes and it will be rettina so yea lol Ile be trying VR with my phone lol probably much better aswel due to the fact that your eyes never leave the screen lol
@King Corbin and its hella cheap
I was able to find one for 132
Is there any way you can just show the computer screen without the room?
This!!
There are multiple different environments and void is one which is just a screen and a black area.
JT Ent. Yes there’s a botton that you use
JT Hodges bigscreen beta
Childhood dream will soon be achieved. Taking the VHS tapes that you've watched as a kid convert them to MP4 files put them on your network and now you can just put on the Oculus go going to visual desktop going to movie theater settings and now you can just watch that classic piece of Cinema history especially Disney Cinema history in a virtual movie theater.
I can already do this with big screen vr on oculus go! Review the app, it is totally genius and a new way of seeing people
You can't control your desktop with Bigscreen VR on Oculus Go, I explained that at the end of the video []-)
Hi Mike. Awesome review. Have you tried connecting from another location? One review I saw claimed you had to be on the same network. Being able to control my system remotely is why I'd want to purchase.
Nvm. I see they claim u need to enable UpPnP on your router.
You can access your PC remotely []-)
this is gonna be great, Guy Godin is the most responsive dev ever.
that being said i would totally like the ability to create floaty TTY windows... would be like the matrix and i could access my Mac thru that... not sure if that'd be doable through a PuTTY plugin or sth... just to feel like i'm in the Matrix lol
Dante S Thank you Dante, that’s a good idea, I’ll look into adding a transparent mode in a future update =)
Yeah it's frustrating that we can't make floating tabs but hey a single screen is way better than none lol
Can it be used to code simulating multiple 'monitors'? I really wanted something like this to code at Bed when I'm too lazy.
It also works with Gear VR, so keep that in mind. Seeing that the dev is around here answering questions and such, is the cinema screen the biggest screen you can put in or can it be a little bigger? Mostly for the games, would be great to play them on a huge huge screen
The screen appears bigger in the headset than on video. The theater environments have fixed screens and they vary in size and distance. You can always pick one of the environments with a floating screen and with those, you can change the size, curve and distance to your preference
I appreciate the review but I do have a question can you use this functionality to edit audio software with
i would use this to record videos using my screen recorder from anywhere
Hey there,
I love the concept of streaming PC content on a standalone VR headset. It can also be used to stream PCVR (ALVR apparently allows to play PC VR games on the Go).
But I wonder: compared to actual PCVR, does it save up performance on the PC?
For example, can you compare using Virtual Desktop on the Rift and using it on the Go?
Well with a normal Rift for the PC it has to use processing for the 6DOF tracking and I think it has a slightly higher resolution but on the flipside, it doesn't have to encode and stream the image over the Wifi/Internet so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ idk
Thank you for your recommendation. I went and forked out the $9.99. Wow, it is something. I use if for gaming and productivity. Lets me see the screen with less stress on my neck (I have a large monitor, 30", but I can play with curve and so much more... better spending ten bucks than a thousand for a monitor that will become obsolete in a couple of years). So far, can multitask. I need to figure out more. If Oculus controller is pointing at screen, I lose mouse control, so I just have to point it away for full mouse control. So far, loving it, great streaming.
I'm a total noob when it comes to VR, so please forgive my ignorance:
I were to play a 360º game or video on my VR Ready Laptop, would it play in WITHOUT appearing on the actual laptop screen?
Would I also be able to use my headphones whilst playing?
Hi Mike, thanks for the video, the questions as I just saw your video and thinking to get Oculus Go to experience the desktop on VR, try to code, design and browse using the VR headset, my question, as for your the ending of your video, is the VirtualDesktop App allow multi-desktop or monitor to be displayed at the same time.
Finally a way to access my pc without going through 20 different websites and apps
It’s so so simple to use. No more sideloading and messing around! []-)
Huh. Neat
Nice Oculus long sleeve. :)
What grate about this it work on older pc and new oculus go unlike the rift
Your pc still has to be able to run the game
For VR gaming what will be a better choice for spectators view a Monitor or TV
Is it possible to have the virtual desktop fullscreen on the Go without head tracking ?
Yes
@@beanboimiggi4945 then how
Aliona Josan Theres options in settings to turn off head tracking
I hope this will be available for the quest. I’m probably getting a quest when it comes out
Zakary McLeod it’s been 4 months so I don’t know if you found out already, but it’s out for the quest!
Lucio-OHS Lmao He sent the video before you replied. Duh.
Can I use this to work from home with a mouse and keyboard for Microsoft excel, word, gotomypc ?
is this loser unironically wearing an apple watch....holy fuck.
@@CircumcisionIsChildAbuse ?
Hope they will add support to play games in 3D sbs. Would make it the best GearVR/Go app ever!
Hey so another thing I forgot to ask...what about framerate? My PC has a 165hz monitor and runs most games at 100+ frames. Obviously the Go doesn't have a refresh rate that high, so should change any ingame settings to optimize for the go? (i.e. framerate cap, turn Gsync off, turn Vsync on, etc.) Thanks!
Sounds like this is used for only accessing your PC in an environment by yourself and does not allow you to have a friend join you in your room together so you can stream videos for both of you to watch together? Was hoping I could use this app to watch movies or possibly stream Netflix together with my twin nephews in a different state since I bought them Oculos Gos for Christmas. Will this app possibly work while inside BigScreen? I have gone in there and watched movies with people in there using their Oculus Riffs steaming from there PC and was hoping I could now do the same using this app?
Thanks for the video. I'm mostly interested in productivity. Although the intro into games was nice. I never play games, however but it did intrigue me. Could the big screen be a substitute of have multiple monitors? Was it cumbersome to use in a home office? Can you type on a physical keyboard or is this very difficult and ineffective? I'm looking for ways to be more productive and if i can spend less money on monitors and get a similar experience or greater focus due to a more controlled environment that would be great.
Thanks again!
Did you try this?
Can you watch movies from Vudu, netflix and other streaming services instead of converting your movies to a MP4 file?
I've seen a video where someone was watching a bit of 3D film in this app on OR so I have a question.
Most (if not all) games support 3D now when you play a standard (non vr) game in this app is the game in 3D or flat 2D like on standard monitor?
If you use a program made by I think either Tridef, VorpX, or TrinusVR you'd be able to play normal games in 3D using this
I would use if for gaming since gaming drain resources so i really cant use VR and gaming on the same machine, gotta seperate them out.
Hi Mike. Thank you so much for your time in making this video. I have a question can I play games like Doom VR using this method and have full VR experience or is this not possible yet?
Great question but unfortunately not. I asked the dev if this would be an option on Quest and have the ability to emulate full desktop VR games however it’s not possible right now, maybe in the future []-)
you can never have anything near full vr experience with the go because it is only tracking your rotation, not your movement. there may be some games where you sit/stand still but most of the time the missing 6 DOF will ruin it.
I would love to use this for productivity, but I would need a functional keyboard. is there any way to sync a bluetooth keyboard to the occulus go?
This is mind-blowing!!
Has it been try on Windows 7 ? I dont want to install 8.1, and not ready to go to W10...
Does this work well with steam games?
Sweet!
Wait so I can play steam vr
Without a nvidia graphics card
That's awesome! Thanks for the review. Is it possible to load 360 files (video or photo) on the oculus Go from PC using this program? Do you need internet connection or it can be only wifi connection through a router?
Can you use the computer in VR and at the same time open like another desktop or make the screen larger so that someone else could use the real computer and it could be like if you had two computers?
OK great videos. Thanks. But a question: I have a 3D Camera and a 360° Kamera. Photos and 360 Videos are on my computer. With virtual desktop I can watch them on the screen. But is there a way to watch it in full size with my Quest 1 Headset ? I mean VR 360 mode ? Right now, I can only copy it onto the Quest to see my Videos. But I would like to start them from within Virtual desktop. Any Idee ?
Have you considered looking for how to play games in 3D side by side mode too?
Great Video !!! Congrat and Thank
Have you hear about The problem of factory reset On oculus go turn The oculus in a brick?
this is old and not sure when the fan was releasd, but you need a fan for the front of the go's, they get hot quick
How do I access my computer remotely with desktopvia internet, it just seems to want to work if I am on the same wifi network? I actually want to use it to access virtual machine on google when we have power outages
Why is urs so smoth my has to be red and normal to work other wise I can't see everything
Is there a possibility to see and use my pc desktop (quest2 wired to pc) without my monitor connected to the pc.? thanx
If I don't have a Xbox One S controller but I have a Xbox 360 controller that is plugged into my computer, can I use that to play games or do I have to have the S?
can you connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to the Oculus Go? I hope I can get work done when I am away from my computer.
This is Awesome! Although I am curious about the security.
I would suggest unchecking the ‘run streaming app when windows starts’ and only using it when you want to to prevent any unauthorized access []-)
How many different headsets can you connect at the same time?
Nice video!!
I would still play videogames on that cenima screen
So is it possible to connect the oculus go to your pc for gamesike vr chat and beat saber?
Wireless VR headset - check
Wireless Headphones - oh wait...
Mike - I want to play MP4 videos located on my desktop and or laptop computer, will they display on the Oculus Go? Additionally, if MP4 files are stored on a jump drive, can I access them through the Oculus Go headset?
Is this possible to do while the Quest is connected to the PC directly? To have little to no latency?
Very nice and detailed video... Is it connected with PC through app? or do we need to plug some wire in PC?
This could actually be good for using while sitting at your PC if you want privacy.
Hi. I purchase a nuc 8 barebone intel and i want to use the PC always with a vr.
I dont know yet wich one. I am not intend tô play and i never had a vr.
I want one that i can see The virtual desktop and see the real place i am at the same time with ou without a câmera...
Wich one u recomend?
"a vr"
I have a rubbish pc that can just about handle mine craft but I was wondering if I download half decent games on my pc then stream it to my oculus go would it run on the go?
would it be possible to just get a spare router without an ethernet connection and just only plug your pc in and then connect your go? this way you will have almost no interference from other devices because i have tried using a steam link over our home wifi and that didn't work that well. it will of course not be ideal because you can't really access the internet but for playing offline games and watching movies this would be great.
Good job Mike
Thanks dude []-)
Can you change the size of the screen in the office environment?
Can I connect the oculus device wifi to mobile hotspot data?
OMG VR keyboard 😱
Hoping someone can answer this that has the app. Bought virtual desktop for oculus go, and all was great during set up while at my computer, however I typically keep my computer on sleep. Does virtual desktop not work unless your computer is fully on? I'm just thinking of the word "go" here, and if I'm remoting into my desktop I'm obviously not going to be carrrying my desktop around for the purpose to use virtual desktop, or I might as well be on my desktop or laptop lol Am I missing something to make this work as I thought it should?
Set up wake on lan and get an app on your phone and you should be able to wake up your computer to use it (I think you need something like a raspberry pi running at home to use this)
Will you try to play in stereoscopic? It will be great to try Nvidia 3D to play stereoscopic in the OculusGo, but I think NV3D is only Anaglph and it will need Anaglph glasses inside de OculusGo...
May be games as Batman Gotham or Gears of Wars, for example will be rendered in side by side an will be recognized as 3Ds on this Virtual Desktop
Mike, is it easy to read text on screen? Is it possible to use Oculus as your only desktop screen? thanks
Text looks good. You wouldn't want to use it as your only screen though []-)
On my oculus when I click virtual desktop an orange square with a white ! Pops up and I don’t know how to get it to work
What kind of internet connection setup do you have?
Can you conect a mouse and keyboard to the oculus go by bluetooth?
Though it looks great, I was hoping to have the PC full screen. Tomb Raider is one of my favourites, but I play it on my 3D TV in of course 3D... if the Go could do that... But other then that it is great. How is the sound?
Sound is great. Tomb Raider does support 3D SBS but the Virtual Desktop app doesn't yet []-)
Also doom has 3d support. That would be a good plus, as I cannot set up 3d projector just too busy with 2 babies
yeah, that was real easy mike
Awesome guide Mike can you still watch the movies in 3D?
No, 3D SBS isn’t supported right now but will be coming soon in a future update []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis watching movies on Go give sharper image than Go games? Also can i use home theater surround sound with Go
andy sky There isn’t Positional Audio at the moment but it’s on the roadmap
Guy Godin@ so is it possible i can use tridef 3d using virtual desktop? thanks
@@VirtualRealityOasis can you play vr games like Skyrim vr on steam ? Or other vr supported games?
Mac users have Immersed VR; just in case you haven't seen that one yet!
Whether enough 10 mb/s for run virtual desktop for gaming?
Could I play a normal game from my pc and put it on a big cinema screen ? btw love your content !
Honestly I'm playing this through the go rise of the tomb raider, on 5 ghz and graphically I prefer my 4K tv. Not bad for movies with the theater rooms though.
Is it possible to connect with your phine
Can I play VR games using virtual desktop instead of the wire connected to my PC?
Hi m8 with the virtual desktop could I watch dvds that I bought and put in the laptop many thanks
Yes :)
I connect to my 5ghz and am super close to my router yet I still get hiccups also my router is ethernet
I would not use Bigscreen with the Go... Not if you want to keep your Go battery from burning up. The Go temps jump damn high when your using Bigscreen.
How noticable is the latency when playing games?
if I was you I would of used the on screen keyboard over the one you used as be easier to see I think
If you own Virtual desktop on Rift, would you get discount on Go?
I've got the virtual desktop, but when i load it up I can see my PC in my oculus go but then it struggles to work its slows every down and says parameters not met,,(what ever that means),,then my PC screen goes white and nothing works, but has soon has i disconnect the virtual desktop my PC works again,,I have a decent PC,,any advice I would appreciate it thanks.
Its not about your PC its about your bandwitch internet connection.
Can i get the files on my oculusgo and move them to my desktop with this application?
Looks good. I’m looking for a headset for a flight simulator. Can you use this application outside of a virtual room?
Will this work with a computer that has an older Nvidia card (940MX)?
The PC spec doesn't matter as it's just a streamer from the PC to the Go, so as long as your PC can run the program and the wi-fi connection is sufficient should all be fine
