Spielberg & Lucas et al harked back to those days of the great Hollywood scores of Steiner,Korngold,Waxman etc and Williams was the man to make that a reality-Lucas always envisioned Star Wars as an all-encompassing Space Opera on the scale of Wagner's Ring cycle and wanted a score that reflected Wagner's ingenious use of leitmotifs to represent characters, emotions, places etc, which is exactly what Williams provided. Of course one had to be a highly accomplished artist to be able to pull this enormous project off and Williams did that, but the score for the original movie (A New Hope) has large chunks of barely concealed Holst's Planets, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Prokofiev's Scythian Suite not to mention large handfuls of Korngold openings woven into it. It was only really from the Empire Strikes Back onwards (once Star Wars had become a huge hit and they all knew Lucas' vision of a multi-movie Star Wars saga was now gonna happen) that WIlliams really started to forge his own more unique orchestral voice which he then went on to use to spectacular effect in so many later movies. Certainly a historical moment. It was a great time to grow up watching these films from these guys.
If anybody deserves oscars and academy awards it's John fucking Williams
I've had the honour of watching this man live conduct his music; once in London Barbican, and again in Boston. I've admire this man ever since I wondered who has "made us believe" with this music? I hope he comes to UK again. I would drop anything to see him again.
I'm nearly 50. Still can't watch ET. Ripped my heart out at 10 years old.
I cry every time at the end of E.T.. The story is timeless, but the music touches me in a way that no other does. Bless you, John Williams.
He is one with the Force, and the Force is with him.
The legendary man the ensteins of music. Without him there will be no magic on those legendary movies.
You don’t always recognize John Williams. But he composed the soundtrack to everybody’s childhoods. Idk a single person who hasn’t listened to at least one piece of music composed by John Williams. What a genius
His gift, his talent, his contribution to humanity through his art cannot be overstated! Simply incredible -GENIUS!!
3:52 Williams even matched the pitch of the boy's "Ha-ha!" with the score. Brilliant.
Best Composer ever.
Salutes from Argentina.
Thank you so much for filling our hearts with your music.
From one legend to another. Priceless.
Lucas, Spielberg, and Williams are the best Hollywood geniuses
The way Steven describes a the process John Williams uses to create his unforgettable music is just marvelous.
John Williams is a living legend.
This man made my childhood and I'll always love him for that
People so easily forget how much the music matters. When you are watching a movie the only reason you felt something is because of the music being played along with the writing. Writers, actors, composers and all the people it takes to make a movie are truly talented beyond measure.
John is a genius, we can only love him for all its amazing work :-)
I m a fan score music and his one of my favorite composer, the most magical that sure.
Thank you so much John.

John Williams is perhaps one of the few Hollywood persons that I wish could live forever....
John Williams is a legend among composing, but particularly in film scores. Film scores have this charm to them, and it's his masterful composing that makes the scores as iconic as they are, and he is by far the best film composer of the 20th and 21st centuries. I mean: Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Superman, E.T., Harry Potter, Schindler's List, Star Wars, Home Alone, etc. You can't help but just enjoy listening to his film music. Mr. Williams, we are so glad for all the work you have done in music.
You will forget words and lines but you will NEVER forget the music.
Images and dialogues can talk to the individuals , but music can talk to the individual's soul, and nobody did that better , in Hollywood, than John Williams. Without him, none of these famous films that talked to our souls so beautifully, would have success to do so. He is trully the magical dust behind all these marvelous films.
There are very few collaborations in any industry, let alone the entertainment industry, that are as successful and memorable as the one between these two men. They have shaped some of the most memorable and beloved moments in film history and did it together. I don’t think there will ever be a collaboration between director and composer like this ever again.
I will treasure having seen John Williams up close and conducting Star Wars and Indiana Jones at tanglewood, as one of my most important moments of my life. Thank you John!
I have adored the music of John Williams my entire life! I wish him health and happiness beyond age 90!!!
let's just say that when this man passes he will become a true legend and those legens are the ones that truly become immortal
If anyone deserves recognition for what they do, it’s that man John Williams. Greatest film composer of all time.
Two of the most prolific genius artists of our time...how blessed we all are to be able to enjoy their masterpieces over 43 years!
We all live in a time that is defined by a moment, an event, a person. I am lucky enough to have lived a life during the time that Spielberg and Williams entertained the world.
I can't imagine my childhood without John William's music 🥰
Thank you, John Williams, for this wonderful and powerful legacy!

John Williams inspired thousands of people including myself who is now a professional musician/arranger, I still have his orchestral score of Star War which I bought 20 years ago, I studied his ingenious works and learned so much from them, thank you John!!
The man is a GENIUS and has brought cinematic pleasure to millions for decades.
Hollywood would be very different today if it wasn’t for the movie scores of John Williams! What an unbelievable talent!
I love John Williams! Such a genius and a great man!
Sends chill
Up my spine everytime John Williams is such an icon and one of the best in cinema and people don’t understand how music can impact a scene in a film it goes unnoticed but it’s always with us
The guy is a living legend to date. I am old now and was fascinated by his music since I was 10 years old and he is still going strong. Amazing
How great is this video? John is such a genius. Oh God, don't take him away from us!
Two favourites! I fervently wish I could know them both.
I don't know why this is so touching? Like really sentimental.
John Williams...makes movies magical and real....legendary...timeless... memorable...full of humanity....🙂😀❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🥂🍾👑💎👏👏👏👍☝️🙏🙏🙏🍀🍀🍀everlasting...eternal...cherish...❤❤❤
The theme from Superman is an absolute masterpiece... I listen to it any time I feel the need for inspiring energy... It is sure to be played by orchestras everywhere for generations to come...
I agree with many comments here that John Williams is the greatest composer of our generation and sure to be revered with the greatest of composers till the end of time itself... He is so humble in his genius when hes earned the right to be brash... I think he knows that his gift is a blessing, and respectfully treats it as such...An artist no less inspiring than Michelangelo, he is truly a remarkable man... one for the Ages...
His music in the immolation scene. Gets me every time.
