Forging a CROSSBOW out of Rusted Coil SPRING

  • Well, This Crossbow took me two month to make and this was not easy to make it such perfect. A lot of people asked me to make Crossbow so i tried to make most perfect Crossbow that i can.
    Overall Length: 16 Inches
    Total Weight: 5 pounds
All the Processes are below of making this beautiful Crossbow:
    Forging:
It took me almost two weeks to prepare and hand forge Coil Spring piece into a long Steel Strip and this was my hardest forging ever. I don't have any serious equipment so all the forging as well as welding i did with my hands and turned a spring piece into an almost 21 inch straight metal strip.
    Grinding:
I make most of grindings with my professional Belt grinder and turned the strip into a beautiful workpiece. I also
did a lot of hand sanding with a help of abrasive to remove the edges and almost all the roughness of the blank.
    v. I made grooves on Limb with the help of round file.
    v. Hand Sanded the surface to remove roughness.
    v. The Flight Groove made with a help of rotary grinder.
    Hardness:
There is a proven and professional way to harden a
    Crossbow limb and that is
Heating the whole surface placed into a Fire evenly to a critical temperature. After that Quench the heated detail in oil. To make such responsible part of the device I had to build a Big Furnace to temper steel. Tempering is the best way to increase Toughness of the crossbow.
    String:
This piece traditionaly made of dacron fabric twisted into a single cord but we can also make it by use steel cable squeezed with copper clamps at the end of the loop. The purpose of crossbowstring is to join the two ends and launch the bolt.
    Trigger Mechanism:
    Totally consists of 15 parts.
    v. Trigger: Purpose is to charge or shoot when pressed, I make it out of high carbon materials, simple but reliable.
    v. Riser: Tightly holds a limb and is a base for attaching a Stirrup.
    v. Guard: Protects a trigger and is made by method of Aluminum casting.
    Handle:
A piece of varnished oak wood would be nice for the handle.

    Cautions:
Always wear eye protection while working with grinders.
Always keep Extinguisher at your work place.
    Stay Focused.

I’m not saying they don’t get the job done right, but it would be interesting to see bloopers once in awhile. I worked with metal, wood, concrete for almost my entire life and just looks funny sometimes the way they make everything look so easy. 18:55 - how to shoot your foot 101. Bow should be secured in stock slightly upwards, to prevent excessive cable wear on the rails (despite comparatively light bow weight) .

@Dave Muckinboots He still has his foot in the stirrup when loading the arrow.

Super work. Be careful when you charge it. Don’t put your foot there when you charge arrows. Safety first.

One of the most beatiful crossbow that I've ever seen! You could make a lever to cock it!
