Not a criticism...just an observation. If you don't have a Milling attachment to mill out that groove, you could after drilling out those holes. Put it back into your lathe. Lok the head in place then put in the drilled item and level up the holes with a long pin with a level sitting on it. ONCE level you make a HSS broach and cut an internal slot by moving the tool post left and right. . Do the same from the other side. It's possible as I've done it on a rare Part for a Steam Engine an "inventor" was developing. OR Place a Slot Drill into the 3 3-jaw chuck. If you make this next part that fits into the Tool Post it all relies on being on centre to the Slot Drill. I've made a V Block that allows me to hold cylindrical parts Horizontally to the cutter. 2 clamps hold it in place on the V block..or at any angle, I choose due to a circular setup that is part of the clamping mechanism. You just have to visualise the concept relative to the need. The slot you want to create can be easily done, and it's repeatable..just wind in and out the tool on the Y axis. The slot drill or the pilot through holes can be drilled first. No need to reposition or use a Dremel. You're a smart cookie. Visualising is the first step...then design it. Then Make it...but being on the centre of the 3-Jaw is the key. Imagine doing 6 slots 2mm wide x 30mm long...all done on a small lathe. Apprentices were mesmerised.. A lesson for life learned....I have a similar Boring Bar holder. The V in the holder is spot on to the centre line of the Lathe. I can change from a 12mm Boring bar to a 25 mm Boring Bar then to a 50mm Boring Bar...HOW/ what is the common thing between them??? ...the Boring Bar holding diameters are usually round...maybe at the top there's a flat for the tool post square-headed bolts screw down upon...make a V with your first and second finger...put your pen tube diameter into the V now put the tube of your Texta into the V...whatever the diam...the centre-line remains the same. A 95 year-old Master Toolmaker took me along the path of discovery when I was 50. When I saw him the following week I had made what he'd allowed me to discover with him. He looked at it, the precise machining, careful filing, rounding all the sharp spots to not tear the skin off inadvertently. What have you achieved Son? I've made a time-saving tool holder where the need for spacers and blocks to set up different Boring Bar diameters aren't ever needed again. Well in my eyes Son...You are a real Toolmaker...your Gerissen !
That was amazing to watch. The metalworking and lathe work remind me of my apprenticeship. The trigger mechanism was very clever. The thing i liked to most was the use of magnets to hold the paper templates to the metal.. I have never seen that in all my 77 years. Thank you
Yes there are some interesting moments. In TIg welding its very difficult to weld steel to steel if it held in place by a magnet. The Arc wanders. I use magnet to hold items in place when using my Laser. Uyou can alter Light energy. I use a magnet to make rotary jigs holding Stainless Steel work pieces. All are seen through a microscope.
At first, with the hacksaws, I was like "Yay! Someone shows how interesting things can be done without heavy duty machining tools!" 2 Minutes later... "Oh." Lol... I still enjoy watching this stuff, though. It's impressive. Just wishing I had a garage or shed with machines and tools. Wow . .that's very cool. .at least he knows what he's doing...he made his own cross bow pistol...instead of buying one ..bravo to him...he must have some technical engineering skills background to build such a cross bow pistol...
I got all excited thinking "yay a project I can do with major power tools -- Then the Lathe came out !! haha --- Nice build though Sir ..Nicely done thankyou for sharing.
I used to enjoy making weapons as a kid but not to this scale. I would love to own all your hand crafted weapons especially this crossbow. They would definitely be in a display case in my gaming room.
That is such a cool look and more effective than I imagined it would be. A mid barrel bow is a new thing, interesting, though you could have more power with a longer pull stroke if the bow were at the end of the barrel, but then it would also have to be wider. If you made this bow a little thicker it would be so strong you could barely pull it back but also more lethal. Good job.

Police are never the good guys in tyranny, but they will do whatever whomever signs their paychecks tell them to do. All that is wrong with the world, the government did this.
While that would be fairly accurate, why would you wanna carry it, in the first place? There is a right way and a wrong (stupid) way to do things. In my opinion, things like this, are nothing but a novelty. However, there are people out there, who would try to carry one, and if not get shot by a criminal, yes, would probably get shot by a cop... Why? Because, if you're caught with something like that, they would think that you're either a criminal or nuts?
You are an awesome designer. It's great to watch your skills finish out each piece. Will you venture into designing firearms in your future? There's a decent bit of crossover between the 2 that you'd already understand how to do for the most part.
I just loved watching the assembly of the crossbow.
brilliant piece! and you're very good with your lathe sir 👍

WOW HOW COOL THE KIDS WILL LOVE BUILDING THIS VERY CONSTRUCTIVE WEAPON CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
