As a massive Spider-Man fan I picked this up based on your recommend and nearly read the whole thing in one sitting. Fantastic vibe and storytelling throughout, thanks for recommending this Heath. More of these type of videos please!
I’m so glad you dug it! It’s just really fun, with no baggage or continuity to worry about. I wish Marvel would give us more things like this that feel like a celebration of characters we love that anyone-kid or adult-can dive right into. Every issue could have been someone’s first and they wouldn’t have missed anything.
Yeah the lightness of the issues was so refreshing, I found myself just smiling reading through every page. Keep up the awesome content on the channel man it’s appreciated more than you know!
I love it too. That's the run that brought me back to Spider-Man in the early 2000s. It walked a great balance between mythic storytelling and the every-day stuff that Spidey has always dealt with, but with the humor that can sometimes get lost.
@@CerealAtMidnight the best issue is when he's at the airport and has to defend Doctor Doom from terrorists, all while having matrimonial problems with Mary-Jane. This is the funniest comic i've ever read I believe it was issue 50 of Amazing Spider-Man
I should really pick this up then. Ive stopped reading modern marvel stuff after the marvel now stuff as i felt the quality really dropped of other than a few books but this sounds like one of the good ones. Heard a lot of good things about Spider-man life story as well
I've heard good things about Spider-Man Life Story too. I've decided to wait for the trade on that one, just because it will be about half the price of the individual issues.
@@CerealAtMidnight nice. other than the time you have to wait for them i think trades are better. i always forget what happens issue to issue when i pick them up in singles
Sometimes I legitimately wonder if the comic companies would rather we wait for the trades. The collected editions often include the alternate covers, added material like intros, outros, sketches, etc, and usually cost less than the single issues.
Great episode you got my interest with this one I just added to my wishlist so I will be picking this one up and reading in the near future, thanks for another fun and costly episode, lol.
I picked this up from Forbidden Planet in London. An absolute joy to read, and that was just the first issue out of the twelve. Definitely a must-have for collectors and new readers like me.
I got the original prints of spidey and I was so excited when I saw this. I thought this was gonna be a continuation... now I’m sad cause i wanted more spidey
I think the series is pretty damn great. But tbh, the Ultimate comics is where it’s at. Although I will say I genuinely don’t like how young Peter is compared to other heroes in either universes. Makes more sense for him to be older around other heroes tbh. And. Disagree on Spidey being what “One More Day wanted.” One More Day happened because certain clown writers like Joe Quesada (I call him “Quesadilla”) aren’t able to tell a good grownup Spidey run and Marvel is afraid of letting their mascot character mature. Spidey is great but it’s not the idea that One More Day was supposed to be. One More Day is a story that never should’ve happened. Great video though! 👍
Well, Joe Q believes the status quo for Spider-Man is that he's always struggling with the same issues, like his love life, taking care of Aunt May, and trying to make a name for himself at The Daily Planet. I don't agree with Joe Q, but I think it's interesting that the most recent Spider-Man movie seems to side with Quesada.
Sounds like a lot of fun. I should pick that up. The last time I really read Spider-man was the Ultimate Spider-man comics in the early 2000s. Wold love to hear about other comics your a fan of. If by the way your a Buffy the Vampire slayer fan you should check out BOOM studios new Buffy comics it is a mini sires that just concluded and has an angel companion comic and a free comic book day issue coming out this weekend as well. I know you probably have a lot to read comic wise but if your a Buffy fan you should check it out.
I loved Buffy back in the day, and even read some of the season eight comic, all those years ago. But I haven't checked in on those comics in a long time! I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to check out Free Comic Book Day or not. If I do, I'll have to grab that Boom issue. I cover comics from time to time here on the channel, but it seems like a lot of people really aren't interested. So weird to me. Anyway, thanks, Aaron!
Cereal At Midnight that is weird. Long time comic fan but have never been a go out and pick up every issue reader. More like TPB reader, I feel like I get more story at a time by waiting. But yeah if you get a chance check out the new Buffy. It does away with the old continuity and reboots it from the ground up. The setting is 2019 but the characters are still in high school. It’s great.
Oh you're right this is a good trade. I have the first trade with issues 1-6 (it has Dr. Doom on the cover) but I can't remember if I own the 2nd. I agree it's a great entry series and the stories are amazing. I have the omnibus for the Busiek stories and I agree this is the very same vein. There is a big John Byrne Omnibus coming out this September which has his 12 issue reboot and the first 20 issues of ASM prior to the JMS run and I am on the fence about getting it as that was a Spider-man era I did not read and I've never really heard great things about that era. I'll probably pick this Spidey Trade up as it's so cheap and give my first trade(s) to a young person wants to get into comics! My way intro Spider-man were those Archie sized digests that had Romita and Lee stories in them. What was yours?
The John Byrne omnibus is tempting, because I haven't read any of that stuff either, and now those things go out of print so quickly, I almost feel like I have to grab it while it's available, but I prefer epic collections. Still, if I can find it at a good price, I'll grab it. My way into Spider-Man was the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon series, which I loved. Then, a little later, I was in an antique store with my parents and there was a box of old comics that were priced pretty low. I can't remember who bought it, but my first issue of Amazing Spider-Man had him facing off against the Vulture. I don't even remember the issue number. From then on, I would check out Spider-Man when my allowance stretched far enough. The X-Men titles were always my first priority. Of course, now I'd take Spidey any day.
LOL Super friends series. I guess mine was also the 60's Spider-man cartoon. It was on television a lot here as the voice cast is Canadian. That's funny one of my first real issues of Spidey was at an Antique shop too. There was a basket of a couple of comics for a quarter each so I bought the Spider-man and Green lantern issues. I remember hating being dragged to Antique shops and now I enjoy them. Speaking of Epics there is an X-men epic coming out late August that collects 248-267 which is the Silvestri and start of Lee run. I have very few of those issues (they were so expensive to buy back in the early 90s) So it's going to be a pick up for me, oh and the omnibus of that run is long out of print is now big $$$.
That epic collection sounds fantastic, and that would fill the gap between where my essentials leave off and my single issue collection starts. Also God bless antique shops.
Sounds interesting. I loved Untold Tales of Spider-Man by Busiek & Oliffe, and that was the last Spidey series I was really all in for. I'll likely check out the first issue on Unlimited and if I like it, spring for the trade to read the rest. I was a huge Spidey fan as a kid (I think Spidey on Electric Company was my intro, and Amazing Spider-Man #146 was one of my first Marvel comics and my first Spider-Man issue) but things like the Clone Wars, Maximum Clonage and such sucked the joy I got out of Spidey out and I haven't really read much new Spidey in a couple of decades (but I still have the first 6 or 7 Essential volumes on my shelf), but this sounds like something that could reignite the joy Spidey used to bring.
Ok, read the first issue and it was pretty darn good! Looks like I will be picking this up when I get the chance. Maybe if my lcs has it on Saturday on FCBD, when everything is 25% off. BTW, to all comic fans going to FCBD, pick up Hope #1 from Source Point Press by Dirk Manning and K. Lynn Smith. I picked it up at a con from them last year, and loved it (I have a lot of Dirk's horror stuff) and it was my wife's favorite comic of the year.
I still haven't decided if I'm participating in FCBD this year (it's a MAD HOUSE!), but I appreciate the recommendation for Hope #1. Definitely interested in checking it out!
@@themrp4424 I did end up going to FCBD with my daughter this year and racked up a total of 27 books, INCLUDING Hope #1! I haven't read it yet, but it will be near the top of the stack later this evening.
Read it last night. I think it's an interesting and unique premise, but I also think it's going to be a very emotional (and potentially upsetting) series. Not sure I'm up for it emotionally!
I am in love with this series
It has so much love into it and feels like a more modern telling of spidermans origin
A 10/10 series in my eyes
Literally found this book in my local bookstore on their bargain shelf today 😊 I haven't been able to put it down hardly. Great read for sure

If the spectacular spider man tv show and ultimate spider man (comics) had a baby
Thanks for the recommendation! I jumped on Amazon to buy this, but found myself adding a few other comics to my cart.. No regrets at all!
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think about it when you read it!
I loved the run when it was written by Strazcynsky. It was an older Peter Parker, but the man knows how to write fun (and drama when needed).

Aw, bummer! Maybe if it sells well we can get more, though. That’s one of the reasons I covered it. Hopefully we can send a message to Marvel.
