I had the same issue. The dial cluster would look like it reset, all the lights would flash on and off and sometimes the engine would cut out whilst driving. The best way to describe it was like the car was re-booting like a computer on its own. The garages could not find any fault on their connected computers, even though the mechanics could see the issue with their own eyes; but the computer showed no faults whilst the car was acting weird. I found the resolution via a German Focus owner said he had the same symptoms and he tracked it to the speed sensor. The speed sensor is at the bottom/underneath or the car exposed to water spray and it was poorly waterproofed, allowing corrosion of the electrical connectors. I had the speed senor replaced, even though the mechanic said I was wasting my money ...... the issue went away instantly and never came back.
Hello Martyna, i am having the same problem on my car, and found your videos. Imagine finding the solution on this channel rather than on a car repair oriented one. But I don't understand, how did you change the clocks? where are they on the car? Did you mean the clock that shows the time? Thank you kind regards; V.
If you have same problem I can advise you only to sell it asap. I was fighting 2 years with this car, I spent around £2500 for repairs etc and on the end problem was still coming back. No one found the real reason what’s wrong with the car. Finally I sold it for £450 and I bought another car :)
My all 06 Ford Focus is doing the same thing every other day the check engine light will come on, the speedometer will stop the working like this video and the transmission will hit hard from first gear to second gear. You think is the speed sensor? And if it is, is it the output or input speed sensor?
Stefanos infinityphoto I spend around £2000 for mechanics, repairs, we changed almost everything.... Even Ford company didn’t found a real reason and they changed me exchaust system (I paid them £680). When problem came back even they gave up.... Finally I bought on eBay used clocks for £50, my friend connected it and.... after 2 years problem disappears... I sold this car maybe 3-4 months later bcoz I bought a bmw but lady who bought it seems to be happy so hopefully this problem didn’t came back :)
Stefanos infinityphoto It cost me a lot of time (mechanics almost every week), money (I was forced to cancel my customers many times + all together around £2000 for “repairs”) and a lot of stress bcoz I can’t drive to far.... I had really enough of this car 😅 Now I have bmw 1 series 2009 and in last 10 months I didn’t had any problems (I was just driving around Europe for 4 weeks-all together around 4000-4500 miles and I had absolutely no problems with car) 😍 Check the clocks on your car, if it don’t help then.... sell this car asap bcoz honestly.... you will loose money and time like I did 😅
update: Finally after 2 years, few mechanics,2 electrical and ford dealer on Stockport who charge me alot of money for guessing what's wrong and change whole exhaust system.... I changed the clocks and problem is gone. lesson? In UK is no mechanics, they're too stupid to repair even small problem :/ They use fuc##ng Google for "diagnosis" and they changed half of my car bcoz they're not smart enough to check the clocks... 😡

Where is the speed sensor located? Is it on the gearbox, right?
