thank you for mentioning the internal battery!! i just picked mine up from a thrift shop and was wondering why one of the screens isn't working :) awesome review
i just got one and it would only shoot a few frames then begin to rewind i read on some forums to try changing the internal battery so if anyone else is looking for a solution this problem I'm here to test the theory (also great video i have the 301 already but was interested in the a4 after this video since it was significantly cheaper)
I just bought one of these on a flea market for $3, it is brand new I can't believe it doesn't even have a tiniest scratch. I just need to get a battery and I will shoot some film, looks amazing. Also, it does have kodak gold inside still and I want to know whose pictures are on it, really interesting
Awesome!! That's such a steal I'm very jealous, you're gonna have a blast with it, seriously crazy p&s. Kodak Gold shoots so well in the A4, always cool seeing the owner befores images
@@nakedexposure964 I shot two rolls already and it is amazing, such a nice and compact camera. The previous owner's film got ruined unfortunately because the little battery behind the film was dead and we had to put in a new one since the film couldn't roll and we had to pull it out. So far I'm really happy with it, the downside is that it really eats the battery quickly.
Great video, i have a Olympus mju II zoom 80, Picked it up 3-4 years ago on a fleemarket for 2 pounds, think i might sell that one now and try this one out!
Ordered one based on your video and it arrived last week. Put a test roll through it and will get it developed soon but so far so good. I especially like the form factor and close up mode. Thanks for a great video.
Great to hear you picked this camera based off this video. Tell me how you get on, I think you'll really like it. The lens is a little stunner, especially that close up mode, it blows my mind the clarity, background separation and sharpness. Bigger quality than its size, happy shooting! It's a secret gem, let everybody pay for the expensive Big Mini's
Hey! I was wondering if it's possible to use the flash and the self-timer at the same time. I'm very interested, but I just want to make sure. Thank you.
Hi! I recently got my Konica A4 and encountered the mid roll auto rewind issue. I saw that it's a common bug for this model and was wondering if you ever experienced it. If yes, any recos on how to resolve it? Thank you very much!
Just purchased an a4 today! The only issue is that the LCD is not working and the ribbon needs to be fixed but I think I just need to change the battery inside the film compartment. EDIT: The LCD for the mode function is not working but the date is working T_T
Just ordered this camera, can’t wait to try it. I owned an mjuii once and I think it’s so overrated, image quality was not that great and focusing was bad, kept back focusing, never buying it again. Also owned 3 XA and they all did on me pretty quickly.
Great camera still, own some very fancy cameras now like a Leica M4 with a Summicron lens and some others but the Konica A4 still impresses me. Recently sold a couple Yashica T5’s and Mju ii, the A4 destroys them in image quality and always nailing focus. Hope you enjoy it, i’m sure you will!
Hey I really enjoyed your review, I bought one recently. But it keeps on rewinding the film half way. Is there anything I can do prevent this from happening again ?
Glad you liked it, if you open the cameras back door and look next the flat springy plate thing (yeah my best description haha) there's a couple screws with writing saying 'CR2025'. That's where you unscrew and out comes the button battery, if you replace that it can fix mid rolling issues and also stops the camera clutching when using a flash I picked up my one for £10, it didn't work and constantly rolled the film back in. Changed the button battery and been fully working now for a year and half
Hey! Just got one of these on eBay as untested.... I changed the batteries and the camera turns on fine. It just seems very temperamental... It will take a photo some times and also sometimes change the mode if I press the button.. Do you know of any fix? thanks
Sorry for the delay, have you tried replacing the internal button battery? It can do wonders to fixing an A4. But there's always a chance the circuitry is gone unfortunately, I recently picked up another A4 that was untested but yup it's dud. Hope you can fix it!
Hey! Thanks for the vid, I have a problem with my camera tho:( I just got my dad's old one yesterday. It's >20 years old and the display didn't work. I replaced the cr2025 but the display still doesn't work and doesn't show anything. Do you have an idea how I could make the display work again? :( Thank you!
I do love the XA but if I want the best results and ease of use I always grab the Konica A4! Shooting with the A4 right now, and will be for the next few days. Incredible camera, very loud but incredible
I found it crazy that you think this quality is way better than the XA. I love the XA. Also wondering what you think about Olympus MJU 1 which is in the same price bracket.
I love my XA but it doesn't come close unfortunately, the sharpness of the A4 is close to the Contax T (which ive shot). Mju 1 is a nice camera which a nice enough lens but unfortunately the autofocus is not very good, it'll miss focus quite a lot compared to the A4 which usually always nails on focus. Between the A4 and Mju 1, I'd pick the A4 hands down much better quality camera! Hope that helps
Hey! I just changed mine. The flat battery is inside the cover and u have to unscrew the two tiny tiny screws. I think you should rewind the film first though. Then place a cr2025 battery inside with the plus facing up and put the little flap ontop of it. Then screw the battery back on and you're done:)
Hiii really your videos reviewing this! I just got mine few days ago. Can I ask you this: when i press 1/2 shoot button the green light comes up - means its auto focusing things but the red flash/ sometimes flowers pop up and I dont know that they means? Whether it tells that I did something wrong with the distance or not enough light? Thank you for helping me out in advace
Hey, the red light flashing means your shot is going to be underexposed (it doesn't always mean this as the camera can be wrong sometimes). If you're unsure leave the mode on auto, so the camera will select if it uses the flash or not! I personally even in low light don't use the flash as the camera will get the exposure right in dark situations, it will just use a slow shutter speed which could cause blur (I like that look) The flower means you're on close-up mode, so the focus is set between 0.3-0.6m, just hit the close up button again to turn it off. Hope that helps!
Does anyone know if there is a fix for the flash not working on these? I am on my third A4 now with the same issue where all functions work perfectly apart from the flash not firing, making the camera lag between shots while it attempts to charge. Have tried changing the internal battery but no dice..
Sorry to hear you’re having issues with yours, only thing I could think is the internal battery otherwise the ribbon could be damaged which is a bit harder to repair
Possible solution - On one of my P&S, when I bought it, flash didn't work and camera wouldn't fire unless put on "no flash mode". Camera was showing full battery, but I put in a new, unused one... and camera started behaving normally, no more flash issue. Sorry for the late reply. I hope it will be useful to someone.
Thank you! :) I've been loving shooting Kodak Gold 200 through the A4 the past couple weeks, been great for the late summer light. It's not the sharpest film with quite a lot of grain - but that's why most of us shoot film anyway
Really nice video! After watching this I've just bought a Konica a4, I just wanted to ask when I'm taking the photos the film counter will go up but then seems to glitch and show every icon on the screen then reset to zero?? Would you know anything about that?
Hey Louis. My camera has the same problem, and I was wondering if it’s the small battery for the display that needs to be replaced. Did you figure it out?
Hey guys sorry for just getting round to this now, the ribbon cable on your cameras could be damaged! It can be user replaced but it’s about a 5 out of 10 difficulty not something you could do without a little knowledge but yeah hope that helps and you got them fixed
thank you for mentioning the internal battery!! i just picked mine up from a thrift shop and was wondering why one of the screens isn't working :) awesome review
