I looked at this and thought it looked nice but was quite expensive. In terms of value, just the insert ($49+post+tax) illustrates how Kickstart has probably reached a limit. Thank you for a clear and helpful review.
Timely video. I never played the original, but the changes seem to address some of my concerns about the initial campaign. 2nd ed base game (without the expansion) looks like a game worth checking out. Thanks, Alex!
I like the changes, I think I'd just draw one of those game-changing ability cards at the start of each game to add variety rather than requiring a whole game to determine the card for the next game. Especially since it's just a random draw anyway
This is what I thought as well. If you only table the game once or twice a year, you aren't remembering anyway. Seems like that whole idea could simply be an optional rule during setup to draw a card that modifies the game. Simple and less fiddly than the current implementation.
The guilds and Edifices isn’t really “the new expansion”, but more or less just older and improved content from the companion pack they offered in their previous campaign. The Relic expansion is “the new expansion”, which I assume you haven’t had access to then?
I have the first edition (so my options are based on this)., and I'm torn on this one. It reminds me of Septima, in the sense that it is a beautiful game in art, theme, and production, but I'm just not sure if there are enough layers of enjoyment under the ice to make it stick around in my collection long term. Almost half of the puzzle seemed to be how to move around the board efficiently, and set collection is my least favorite scoring modality. All that being said, I do think the changes made to the second edition will make the game better. Better enough to stay in the collection long term? If I end up keeping it, then time will tell. Because I like the theme, art, and production so much, I think it may be worth giving it a second shot with the upgrade kit. In conclusion, I'm still torn on this one.
Is it all about just finding artifacts? The theme is so strong. Is there any sense of danger, can people be injured??? This is all about ice climbing and spelunking. Without any sense of danger element, it seems like a wasted opportunity!
I kind of thought of Relics as "the expansion" in this campaign since I had already backed Edifice and Guild booster pack (and edifice tile) in the yet to be fulfilled campaign. Ugh its so confusing.
You’re not alone! I’ve pledged and cancelled so many times already. I think it’s going to be a pass from me, too expensive for what it is (a bit like fractured space)
Thanks, this is the one I’m hoping comes to retail and the one I’m been waiting for. Do you know if it’s going to come to retail? If so about how long large ball park.
Still wondering if it would be best just to buy all new and sell my old collectors edition? Some of the update kit is stickers, and I am not a big fan of stickers. Plus if playing 3 layers is always the best way, then why keep a version that I would never play the old way.
Beware of this company and their promises. Why? Read update #15 of the "ICE Limited" campaign, which was a shipping support campaign for the original campaign. There is still stuff not delivered (not even manufactured) but the show must go on and the company needs fresh money.
Most of the rewards on that campaign says mars 2024, that's barely late for a kickstarter nowadays. Not to defend companies not reaching their estimated dates, but if you're going to "warn" people about a company being late for that you might as well stop backing anything. (And that's not me even bringing up the actual reason they state for being late. Maybe you don't believe the update, but it's a perfectly understandable reason if it's true. So you're just coming off as an ass unless you have some evidence they are lying)
@@nihlify When did I accuse them of lying? In regard to the elements of the rewards still not delivered, they were declared to be on track for Q1/24 delivery (or earlier) for a long time, till they abruptly weren't. The reasons are given in update #15. I didn't accuse them of anything, just pointed out to their own words describing their situation.

Thank you for the informative video as always. The game looks enticing and has a unique mechanic with removing the layers of tiles. With a heavy heart I'm going to pass and you've helped me to make that decision. I do that only because I'm diving all-in to Euthia campaign this month and this exhausts my already stretched boardgame budget.
I'm really interested in this game but the price Is too High Imho. Italy based, it's 189 euros with shipping and VAT. basically 200 $. I think it's too much for a game like this.
The company almost go bankrupt because of the costs of the 1st edition. They actually have a blog post about this. They did this 2nd edition basically to save the company.
@@santiagomansur1372 Yeah, that sometimes happen when a business isn't run well...the game wasn't cheap at all. Now the question is: do they have to make a 2nd edition instead of reprinting the 1st one? And what will be the value of my 1st edition when the 2nd is out?

@@intrepidfool - House rules, rule all! I might back ICE this time.
Agreed completely, that's what we did in our gameplay.

What was the review number he gave for the game itself? I heard 4/5 on the expansion.

Yes! Relics is the new expansion and the other one is a reworking
How is replayability?
I’m conflicted on this one…
It costs 2x more than it should before factoring in shipping

If I get the upgrade kit, I'm usut going to upgrade it however I want, possibly not using the stickers. Wait... What are the stickers for?
@@scottrenfer2735 Quality of life updates to the faction abilities, mostly.
So 4 days with 5 action points in each day… You only get 4 turns in the game?
Correct, 20 action points, but the puzzle is finding ways to lower your costs to 0 whenever possible
Is the Solo mode Beat Your Own Score, or Win/Loss Condition? Hopefully it's Win/Loss condition as I'm not a fan of beat your own score for Solo.
I haven't played this one solo so far
When you say you did a playthrough do you mean of the 2nd edition? Or you did one in the past. I'm not seeing a new one
New one is coming tomorrow :)

Almost 300 CAD with shipping is laughable for the amount of content in this box
The game looks like it's all about looks but not much game.
There's a decent game here that feels faily unique compared to other things out there.
