My father and I used to wrench on these old Generals back in the 80’s, so I have love hate relationship with them. They’re still one of my favorite trucks of all time. these and the W9 Kenworths and the 379 Peterbilts.
My fire department has an 8v92ta 500 hp silver with a Jake in our pumper number 1 and pumper number 2 has a 6v92ta 400 silver with a straight pipe and a jake. We had a 1974 Howe ladder truck with a Hendrickson cab and a Cummins NTF 365 855 without a Jake. We just retired that truck 2 years ago for a 1999 KME with a red top ISM 10.9 liter with a jake and 400 horse. Not a bad truck but the station I'm active at now has a Sutphen SP70 with a C12 and I love it. I love the 2 stroke Detroit's and I am so happy to use them and see them. Keep that truck strong and kicking
My dad drove a gmc general with 515 twin turbo detroit with a 15 speed double over drive with tall gears he said he could never get it past 13th gear he ran out road
Yup, i figure 85, 86, 87 were the peak years for the 892. Lots of them around my area back in the day; preferred engine for log trucks. Could not really take a 425cat in the hills but once on the flats, see-you-later cat, pull out and pass and pull away.
the T8V92 two stroke Detroit diesel if I had a mci 102 A3 or 96 A3 or C3 mci mc9B or mcimc12 I've would put this engine with the HT 740 Allison automatic transmission
Robert Archer ...first part is #6 south of Guelph, second part is Linc eastbound. My youngest grandson did the filming, we were comin bak from Clifford, first time out, not a W900 , any body can have one of them!
Jim Herriot I must try and get to Clifford next year. I didn't recognise "Hanlon Expway" since there seems to be more overpasses installed where I remember at grade intersections. Congrats to your Grandson for the filming. Looking forward to seeing the General sometime.
I love the sound of of that turbo.
That brings back memories. Nothing like the sound of a 430 dettoit and a roadranger 13 speed transmission.

I wanna get an Astro with either an 8v 71 or 8v92. My second choice would be a 5 star General with the same engine.
I have your trucks twin. Same year, color, 8v92 etc... Dig the video! You drive this better than I do.
thanks!
sounds good. love that bug deflector !
You got the most powerful GMC General yet!
Nope - there was also a "OO" 92 series ( Black) 445hp.
@@fredericia01 there was also a 475hp ;)
Excellent, I love the old Detroits. I am driving a DD15, it's nice but doesn't have the fun factor of a 2 stroke.
nor the distinguished "bark" of the 2 stroke Detroit
Very quiet for a 2 stroke Detroit, must have a really good muffler.
It’s also turbo charged so that helps
@@charlesuplifted5216 Yes, the turbo acts as a mini muffler of sorts.
13 speed in that i hear that pitch in the gears

IDreamOfDragons O haha
And at 2150 rpm it was doing 110 mph in 11th gear
I remember when a silver 92 was hotter than a 425 cat and EVERYONE wanted one
Yes sir, 475 DD, BAD BITCH! I remember my grandfather topping a big hill, full load, at 75!

Cause 8V92 make them CAT engines run for their litter box!
Be nice of you could buy a new glider kit these days and drop a 2 stroke in it.
Were you driving this hard like high rpm, if you were it's not that loud compared to your 6-71, not what I was expecting
no we where not... its not like that old 2 stroke. but the 6-71 was not high rpm it just sounded like it.
this has a turbo, the other one more than likely does not, they muffle sound rather significantly

Is this "The Linc" you are driving on Jim? It's not quite a W9 but cool in it's own way.
