Nice truck! My grandad had one back in the 80's. Don't know which one I like better, the truck or your RUclips Channel name both take me back to the 80's.
My dad owned 2 GMC Brigadier tractors, and his white GMC Brigadier had this same engine, minus the straight pipes. His blue GMC Brigadier had a Cummins, and that Cummins was the only Cummins my dad ever owned. My dad’s owned a 6-71 Detroit, 2 6V71 Detroits, a 6V92 Detroit, and a Series 60 Detroit which he still owns. Recently purchased the Series 60, which is in a 2005 Freightliner Columbia single axle daycab tractor originally run by Penske as a rental until its subsequent sale on Baskin’s Truck Sales. A gentleman named Hank delivered the Freightliner, and my dad and I drove him to Williamsport Regional Airport where he departed from the old terminal.
I’m not sure what the Cummins in the blue Brigadier was, but I know it was a 2-stroke. I rode in the 6V71 Detroit and the Series 60 Detroit. My dad also owned a few MACK tractors, one of which he scrapped and another he sold off to a new owner. I believe I saw the sold truck running with twin stacks for another company, perhaps a carnival.
I’ve been driving a tractor trailer and it sounded nothing like this. The ol girl is a beast and I can’t get enough of it. The sound is so much better than the sewing machine planted in the Prius. Even if it was a V8 Cummins diesel engine with around 212 horsepower and straight pipe behind the cab and a sound to match.
god LAWD!! :o I keep coming back to this... the most beautiful piston engine sound- ever made.... \m/ (I hope to get my own concept cars built, the "Gremoto"- who will use Detroit Diesel engines. One of my life goals). \m/

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is music to me. I have a few buses with detroits. I LOVE my detroits. but they sound really good in a truck. I really really enjoyed your video..
That’s sweat! I watched until the end. I’ve been a CDL driver for 33 years. However I have a restriction on my class 1. I can only drive an automatic. Driving is just part of my job. I’m a power lineman for a living. The reason we have a class 1 is because some of our trailers weigh more than 10,000 pounds. Hence the class 1. The other is my employer only has automatic trucks for us to drive. I personally never learned to drive a manual. I have been to 2 different driving schools to learn but I flunked out. I’m 6’8” tall & the steering wheel is just over my legs. If I was to lift my leg to move it to the clutch pedal there isn’t any room for my knee to go up. I’m literally squished in the cab. The instructor wanted me to push the clutch pedal down with the bottom of my foot to feel the gears meshing? I had to open the drivers door to get that sensation. The instructor told me to close the door. I could only push the clutch down with the side of my boot. Not the bottom. The other is I have Dyspraxia, Dyslexia & Autism. I have yet to master swimming. That requires bi-lateral co-ordination just like driving a stick truck. So I have a physical limitation & 2 mental limitations. I don’t fit in any cars so all I fit in is custom fabricated Suburbans & Avalanches. The seats were removed & the seat pedestal removed & cut 3” in height & moved back 4”. While still using the same bolt pattern in the floor. Any possible insight on how I might be able to learn a manual transmission or am I screwed?
I kinda miss the old 79 brig. No ac but made to let air through the cab. 6z71t 13 speed top speed 65 downhill loaded heavy with a tailwind, 7 mpg. Just had to duck if you saw a bump you weren't going to be able to slow down for, with that 18k steer axle.
dennis ternent The grinding is what makes a Detroit a Detroit. If you don't grind...get the hell outta that cab, and into a brand new Automatic, cause brother...you can't drive a real rig.
Tom E so much fail in this post. Grinding means you can’t get the rhythm down and fail at floating. Shift at correct rpm and road speed and it glides right in with no grinding

I am no expert by any means, but I have been driving that truck since 2008 the same way, if it were as bad as some of the people on here comment like, you would think that something would have broken by now. The transmission has been opened up twice since I have owned it, and under inpsection, everything looked normal (for a 30+ year old truck especially, haha) Thanks again for the compliments and the support on my ability to float.
@@MotormasterK100 its not that bad but it aint good but you wont detroy a HD trans just playing with it like that for a few videos for 20 years + but id put the 13 in it though, ask real truckers a 9 aint something to be proud of
Nomadic Society , hard to beat free though. I've got a 13 speed in another truck and have thought about putting one in it, but honestly, for what I do with it, the 9 speed works out great!
@@MotormasterK100 its all good especially if your not off road or really using it for work and hauling heavy
I did some skills test in one of those at the cdl school I went to. Boy was that fun
Damn that sounds SWEET!
I could lay back in the bunk listening to that and sleep like a baby.
A gentleman named Hank delivered the Freightliner, and my dad and I drove him to Williamsport Regional Airport where he departed from the old terminal.
what was the cummins in the blie brigadier?
What a sweet sounding engine, all 2 stroke Detroits sound so awesome.
Miss driving my dad's old brig nothing like that feeling being a kid and driven it
That was awesome I love the Jake brake it sounds like a machine gun going off
I have a love for giant diesels, such as toroflow, but this really takes the cake!
Drove detroits for years.love them.318 v8 with 13 speed cover some ground
After midnight
Enjoyed watching this, looks so amazing how you shift it 👌
I’m just here to read all the comments from people who wouldn’t know which pedal is the clutch, giving shifting advice 👍
HA!!
That's pretty much every truck video on RUclips 😂 Too many experts that couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the instructions on the heel
it sounds like it's saying feed me hybrids
under dog crawled under my 79 brigadier not to long ago and found what that cat in the preus was bitching about
Do you need Toyota Priuses bich
Fuck yesss it eats all those fuck electric cars
Love it!!
And feed it teslas too.
god LAWD!! :o I keep coming back to this...
the most beautiful piston engine sound- ever made....
\m/
(I hope to get my own concept cars built, the "Gremoto"- who will use Detroit Diesel engines. One of my life goals).

Old school GMC, worn out synchronizers and all. What a great sound.
I love them old Detroits! nothing sounds better.
Man that thing is nice, hope to see you around the tricities sometime.
DensamG likewise. I'll try to get it out one night where the car guys all congregate. might not be the fastest, but id bet it's the loudest!
Sounds like a m113. Loved the sound from those vehicles
There is no sweeter sound on earth than a hard working Detroit!
GP altaBob Then check out this one Google this '' 8V92TA Atkinson 475hp '' footage of a Detroit powered truck wound up on the highway sounds unreal.
Goodness. That beautiful song is heaven sent!
I love a Screaming Jimmy.
Have a 671 in a 48 GM Greyhound Bus! ❤️
Also there is NOTHING like the smell of a 2 stroke Detroit Diesel.❤️

Gotta love that ole 692!
I know two companies in St. Louis that had these. Shillington Box Company which was once located just outside Kirkwood, Yellow Freight had a good amount of these as well. I think even many tree cutting companies also owned some of these.
That sounds awesome. I worked with a truck with a strait piped 671, that thing could be heard from 3days away! But sounded great!
Yea cause you worked with a real fricken truck!! Not these whimpy ass things we have today!
Great! Such a nice view aswell, really satisfying to watch
That thing looks like it drives as smooth as a car
I like the look of that dash and steering wheel.
Now there's a familiar sound!
Man loved that sound. Nice truck.
surprised no one noticed you have the super rare 0 shift pattern transmission 👌
Wish it were the 70s now. I would see nothing but good stuff.
I've never a 2 stroke Jake braked until I've seen this video
Sounds amazing
That thing sounds AWESOME!! Makes me want one for FUN!!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is music to me. I have a few buses with detroits. I LOVE my detroits. but they sound really good in a truck. I really really enjoyed your video..
Mike jaques , thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice finesse with the gear box. So hard to find drivers that don’t try to shave lbs off the gear box.
Just had to duck if you saw a bump you weren't going to be able to slow down for, with that 18k steer axle.
nice shifting. grind them all the way in. proud of you.
Drive 'em like you are mad at 'em. Only way a Detroit is happy.
MotormasterK100 Yep. The only way to drive a two stroke Detroit Diesel is to drive it like you stole it.
dennis ternent The grinding is what makes a Detroit a Detroit.
@@CardboardSliver you can float shift without grinding if you arent a ham fisted oaf
oioioi cheeky jake under that overpass
Second thumb right here yo! That truck just kills it man. "Screamn' and a Smokin'... Big D coming to thru... Step aside... Little guy". Diesel porn rocks.
I wanna drive myself that truck sir!
