Wow, I thought the Starcar was a cool old truck but this one is ultra cool. Those 475’s were big hammers back in the day. Can’t wait to see more of both trucks…
I drove a GMC general tri-axle with a coal body on it. Had a 318 Detroit in it 13 speed, same exact interior. The guys in the quarry used to call me the bus driver. LOL
Rite Mint! ! I used to drive a Jimmy-G w/a 475 back in the early 90's, dump truck tri-axle with a 13spd. It still is one of my fave day cabs to sit in.
Just RUclips surfing and the old general caught my eye. I ran the short hood version with a 8V71 and was a torture. The dog house inside the cab gave limited room for my feet especially the accelerator pedal. The truck as worn out when I got it so I had to make the best of it. Later in. IH trans star I ran The 8V92 and it was a fantastic motor. Not only the bigger cylinders but the addition of a turbo made the motor a monster. I also ran a 6V92 in a brigadier dump with an Allison that was a rocket! Plus my first truck with float steers. I have clicked the subscriber button so I’m here for future projects. Thanks
Love the look of the old Generals! Those lithium boost boxes work fine until they are exposed to temperatures like we are experiencing in Saskatchewan now. Lithium cant handle cold!
You said it might be tired, but once it got going, no smoke, and purring, sounds good. I just purchased a 1982 MCI MC9 Custom Coach bus conversion. She has a rebuilt 8V92 in it, drove great all the way from Ohio to Texas. I've got a lot to learn, but I'm lovin it.
In 2000 I drove a '86 Freightliner with a 8v-92 tt, I drove it just over a million miles, in 2007 it was taken out of regular service and restored and only runs a few times a year, i left in 2015 and it was there then.
Yes sir drove the same rig from Michigan to buffalo new York in the 90s wasn't a very fun ride back bobtail that rough Camelback suspension not good for the old back great running truck's though appreciate you sharing with us bub.
Hello, bn following ur content lately. Very thorough. Then this morning. Ahhhhhhh....general. your truck has the exact same battery boxes as does mine. I had lids made for mine as originals were gone. Could u please send a few pics, of how the lids fasten to the tray's ( boxes ) i have no original latch, hold downs. Thank you.
Minute 2:16 here in Mexico to the blue in the terminals or connections of the battery as sulphated and they must be cleaned for good current transmission
1:00 Sir, I have some Question for you and it make me real Curious😂😂hehehe... Are the GMC General truck' doors really made of Fiberglass??🤔 (I'm From Indonesia By the way, so I'm Interesting to a American Classic Semi-Truck😂. Cause, in my country the Truck like that isn't Exist). Thank you for attention😊..
I tend to cringe when it gets below 0F. Thats when things really start banging and carrying on. I have a generator and will plug them in for a bit when it gets that cold.
@@jeremybishop9848 I know what you mean. Cables are spendy and terminal corrosion is one of those maintenance items that's low priority until it isn't 😆
Am I only person who views these "cold start" videos as pointless as the plethora of "unboxing" videos? You start a cold engine. Wow! This is so unique! NO, it isn't. And the process is as exciting to watch as a paint drying video. just quit!

After caterpillars. Nothing is better than 60 Series and Silver 8V92TAs. Best of Luck with your Star Car project. Stay Safe out There. 🇺🇸
I love those old Generals, and it looks really good. Generals and the old White Road Bosses are two of my favorites.
One day . . .

Generals/Bison and the Mack Superliner
Man I love that GMC I can't wait till you start working on that one.

That's a tidy old girl. Not often you can say you have a truck that's going up in value. Nice👍

My dad had and drove a truck Identical to yours. right down to the color. OMG this brings back some memories.
this old one sounds healthy enough for its age impressed. I am just a young fan of this old tech. Thx for the video.
thanks! Keep watching, I'll keep filming! These are part of my work truck fleet, so there is plenty of footage LOL!
Nothing beats the sound of the old detroit diesels 6/71,318,8v92 what a sound they put out!!!Great video thanks for sharing!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching!
we want more video of this truck and men we love that 8v92 sound at high rpm
stay tuned!
Really nice old truck. Be proud to run locals with that rig!!
Brings back memories. In '79 we had a new fleet of Transtar 4300's with 8V92's and 10 speeds. Good runners.
You can't beat a Detroit start up she looks cool great classic looks great 👍👍👍 project 🚒🚒🚒
I love that old DD cold lope
Have a Bison with an 8V71 with an incredible cold lope👍

Thanks for the info!
I Love your old General , I remember them back in the day , they hauled ass , 8V92Ta was a superior Detroit compared to the late 8V71 Detroit
In great condition for it's age. It's almost identical to a plastic model I built, except I added a third rear lift axle.
Very nice looking old truck!
Thank you!

Started right quick with that jumpbox . Engine can't be that tired .
usually fires on the first hit if i dont leave it sit too long, but drips oil from the airbox tubes quite a bit.
beautiful truck
My uncle had one like it exactly he hailed milk with i want to find one like it one day good memories
The most beautiful motor music in the world is a 2 stroke Detroit.
agreed!

yep got the baking soda out to clean them after the video, thanks!
Great video and awesome truck.
Thanks 👍
That motor ain't weak
Love those Generals, especially with a Detroit. 87 would have been the end of the line for the two strokes in road trucks.
Actually 1989 was the last year for a 92 Series in a Class 8 Truck in the US

Did you order a Cat 3408 for the western star?
Lol not yet!
i used to add some gas to the tanks that will make it run it kept breaking tach never blew any engines
Jeremy------Only 937 hours shown on the Tachometer. What did that truck used to do in it's early life ? Nice unmolested truck, by the way !
i cant imagine hours is right, but the 580k miles is accurate. was a fuel hauler then a lowbed tractor
CLASSIC
Nice truck.
thanks!
Is it for sale
not yet but if i can find one with a sleeper it may be!
Looks like a old ADM truck ???
fuel truck from Michigan until 1989 then it went to Montana, now in PA
the international hx looks like the gmc
Do you want to sell it
its for sale on marketplace, check it out
🤗
1,000 rpm sounds like 3,000 rpm 🤣 I get it tho, every cylinder is firing every time it goes down..
Have this truck saved on marketplace lol
could be yours!

in the later years, yes they are fiberglass. the early ones are steel and very prone to rust.
