    You could of edit your film and made yourself look like no mistakes, but you were honest and showed that you were human and you forgot your certain diamond blade and went home for supplies. Thank- you for being honest and human and for helping others like me to learn from all the tips you shared from your experience. Beautiful job on the paver sidewalk. I only wish I could spring up and down off the ground as you did. Good luck, and try not being so hard on yourself.

    It’s called “the planning fallacy “ it’s an actual scientific phenomena. Things always take longer than you plan for. When you’re estimating a job you will imagine it being completed in a perfect world. there’s always going be a detail or condition that you didn’t plan for.

  • @derekbebnett8485
    @derekbebnett8485 3 года назад

    Why no edging to hold in place and didn't see you use a plate compactor this will fail in one to two years?

    • @KenMrKLC
      @KenMrKLC  3 года назад +5

      I explained in the video. I have pictures of walkways I did over 20 years ago exactly the same way that look exactly as the day I put them in but just a little faded. Care to take the time to explain how it will fail? I will update it year after year on video if you want to bookmark my channel. I will prove it lasts. If you took the time to listen to the video and not just fast forward through and try and find flaws I would use a better tone when answering your comment. There are times I use a compactor over top and have for many years, but I have also not used one for many years letting them naturally settle. I also use edging on lots of jobs but not this one, the lay of the land with the grass and the height of the bed holds the pavers just fine. I have also pulled up many walkways with edging that failed as the spikes rot out after about 4 years and the plastic just flexes anyhow. I still use it when I have virgin ground on any sides of a job. I have installed hundreds if not a thousand paver jobs over the years. I know what works. I will be interested in your explanation of what is making it fail. You think the tiny 1/4" of settling into the bedding sand not done immediately by compactor is going to make it fail? Or you think the pavers are going to spread and push into the hard ground on either side to the point where crappy spiked in edging is going to prevent that? No... You do not need to use edging on every job.

  • @soundmapper
    @soundmapper 2 года назад

    Ive read that you also want to avoid a 4 way intersection. I'm getting ready to put down my first walkway. I ended up finding some online "graph paper" and had drawn out the pattern I want, using the pavers available PER LAYER. You want to avoid getting ahead of the quantities per layer. I was able to come up with a random pattern that had no channels across, no 4 way lines, and minimal channels lengthwise. Should be no surprises and straightforward.

      Yes sir! Not on all my walks and patios but I have done many that way over the last 15 years and not one issue with any of them. Looks no different than ones I compacted then poly.... they only compact 1/4” at most.... they also settle all the same... the poly is flexible... it stays bonded and tight and the entire walk settles naturally.... it does get a little compacted into the bedding sand when I lay them and rubber mallet/ walk on it etc.... it’s not that critical on a small walk that is following existing grade of the lawn and tumbled pavers.... it just doesn’t make a difference in the end. Compact yours if you want. Can’t hurt unless you crack pavers.... on more critical grade projects like patios and walks with precise runoff grades i compact after they are laid.

    • @armenian205
      @armenian205 3 года назад

      @@KenMrKLC benefit of compacting
      1:When you do the final compaction, the loose sand will be forced up between the pavers and this will set and secure them.
      2:The loose sand will also allow the tamping process to even out the top surface of the pavers.
      your rubber mallets doesnt insure equal hits on each pavers
      where u walk usualy will probably settle not evey where
      rubber pad should always be used when tamping stones been doing it for 27 years
      perfect for the purpose
