This is awesome. Never heard this song before. I only knew of the “Vacation” song from that album, but today, this would be called a “banger.” The band remains unsung and underrated, despite such unique arrangements like this, and I still see them dismissed as “bubble-gum pop,” yet their arrangements are as sophisticated as any rock from the early ‘80s. “Turn to You” has been my favorite of theirs, but this one might have a shot at the title.
Yeah she really does it for me. And Charlotte's mysteriously attractive. And Brenda, well, Brenda's Brenda. And Jane. I can't say enough about how damn gorgeous Jane is. And Gina seems like such a nice person, really cool.
Who the hell has time to worry about how they dance? Jeez. There's quite a few more important things in life to worry about than how the GoGo's dance, isn't there?
@@RideAcrossTheRiver I'm not sure it is sad. I was into different styles of modern dance. I particularly enjoyed breakdancing. So, sad for me? No... It is just a fact that not everyone danced the same way. Be Well, have fun...!
Isn't it usually like that? Only hear a few "hits" from any artist over and over and I start to think they suck. Dolly Partners, er, Parton perfect example. She's a great writer and has an amazing catalog but you'd think the only songs she ever did was 9-to-5 or Her You Come Again.

Well, actually I don't really care whether they dance or not. Even so I like the way they move in this clip and especially like Charlotte. She's so gorgeous and adorable!

I sent you so many hits of mine from "Talk Show" from the Go Go"s, I am pressed for a #1 song on my charts they did not play. I found one though. From the "Vacation" album - "The Way You Dance" went all the way to #1 on my charts. Let me know what you think!
this used to be one of my favorite songs off of vacation, but now when i listen to it, it just seems like such an artifact of the go-go's collapse. there is something of the first album's vibrance missing, and a lack of the third album's cohesion. call it a sophomore slump, but i don't know. charlotte's surf-pop guitar that helped define the go-go's sound is largely absent here, replaced by kathy's bass. while it accomplished melodically what it needed to, it also draws more attention to the strangely flat guitar riff from 1:15 to 1:35 (which, actually, sounds like it might even be jane). gina's drums really push the song, moreso than on anything else besides maybe "cool jerk". i suspect that what we are hearing on this song are beginnings of charlotte's descent into heroin and apathy and belinda's own desire not to be upstaged by her bandmates' abilities. the result is that the song is largely a powerful rhythm section (which in the go-go's was, frankly, ALWAYS underestimated) glossed by belinda's quavering vocals. not a bad song, but not as good as when they're at their best.
Brad, I rarely critique other's opinions, but I find your review to be insightful & quite accurate. I sadly have to admit that at least two thirds of 'Vacation' is mired in a drums/bass rumble, striving to inject energy into songs behind flat, uninspired guitar hooks & little of the perkiness or cheer which made their 1st album so quirky & memorable. Put simply, their sophomore effort showed that the riffs just weren't there. There's a simple, pared down edginess to the 1st album that was catchy & arresting - the 2nd album is barely half as good, and that's being generous. The old cliche rang true here - you've got forever to make your 1st album, but little time & less ideas to put into your 2nd. And drugs, fights & fast fame never help.....
