This video will discuss everything you need to know when diffusing essential oils. This video is number six in our series of top essential oil questions, so be sure to check out the rest of our videos for more info.
BENEFITS OF DIFFUSING
Diffusing essential oils is one of the most effective, ways to get all the benefits of essential oils. Diffusing can help you boost your mood, feel more energized, reduce worry, help you sleep, let you focus, help you unwind and tons more benefits. You might even just diffuse to get rid of stinky smells! Plus, unlike over-the-counter meds, you can diffuse essential oils at night, throughout the night, to keep giving your body the benefits of their goodness.
HOW LONG SHOULD YOU DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS?
How long should you diffuse essential oils? Well that depends. If trying to clean the air, diffuse for a few hours. If looking to boost mood, or help with immediate symptoms of a cold, set diffuser on an intermittent setting like 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off. This is all the time your body needs to get the benefits of breathing in the diffused oils!
It goes without saying, but always use your diffuser the way it was meant to be used. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer! The number of drops you need depends on how much water the unit holds. So, a bigger tank equals more drops (at least most of the time).
When you’re diffusing all day or all night, it’s best to use a diffuser on an intermittent setting. Try to do 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off, that way you get all the benefits without overwhelming the body, or getting “scent blindness.”
HOW TO STAY SAFE WHEN DIFFUSING ESSENTIAL OILS
So what exactly is “scent blindness?” Well, essential oils stimulate your olfactory nerves, which sends signals to your brain, which is why oils can affect your mood almost instantly (for more info on this be sure to check out video number 3!)
But that instant effect means that diffusing for long periods of time is a waste of oils. Basically after about 60 minutes, your nose goes into what we call scent blindness, which means you might not even be able to smell them anymore. What a waste!
WHAT THINGS CAN IMPACT YOUR DIFFUSING TIME/HOW LONG DO ESSENTIAL OILS LAST IN A DIFFUSER?
It’s also important to note that there are some things that can impact your diffusion times. Large open floor plans, or open doors mean you might need a few extra drops. Fans, air conditioning or heaters can negatively impact scents. Basically, just be aware of your environment when you’re looking to diffuse at home!
Also, keep in mind that some oils will evaporate faster than others. There are three main kinds of scents: Top notes, middle notes and base notes.
Top notes (like citrus) evaporate more quickly than middle notes like Lavender or Chamomile. And base notes like Sandalwood take much longer, and slow down the evaporation of the middle notes.
So pro tip: If you’re creating your own blends, be sure to use oils from each category!

@@Planttherapy should say in user manual! mine says to wash with washing up liquid

Do you have to use a carrier oil with the essential oil in the diffuser or only when applying to skin?
Hello! That is a great question! We always recommend using a carrier oil if you apply an essential oil topically. We recommend this to reduce your risk of sensitization. We hope this helps! 😄
Do you have to use a carrier oil with essential oils in a diffuser? Or can you just put a few drops in the water to use the diffuser?
Oil floats on water, so how does the diffuser work around that? I imagine it sucks the water from the bottom for every mist. Does it mix the water before every mist?
We only sell ultrasonic diffusers, the diffuser dispenses essential oils into the air through vibrations of a plate which causes ultrasonic waves, creating microscopic particles of oils which disperse into the air. We hope this helps!
How many drops per 100 ml is a good diffuser amount?
Page, that is a wonderful question! We recommend 3-4 drops per 100ml of water in a Plant Therapy Diffuser!😊
That is why I cannot smell the scent anymore. I dropped 4-5 drops of lavender in a 100mL of water in a diffuser. After a few minutes, I cannot smell anything the scent. By the way, the location is in a very small study room. This explains I have a scent blindness :(
I diffuse oils not exceed 3 drops because I'm afraid to let my essential oil bottles empty lol.
Where did you buy your diffuser?
Our Aromafuse diffuser can be purchased at www.planttherapy.com! 💚
@@Planttherapy so this diffuser can work as a humidifier too?
Can a humidifier work as a diffuser? Do you have a buyers guide on diffusers? And what are your thoughts on waterless diffuser?
Unfortunately, humidifier can't work as a diffuser! We would recommend Ultrasonic Diffusers or Nebulizing Diffusers! 💚
If the oils are not organic , are they really dangerous to use as some say ? containing pesticides etc. sprayed on the plans ?
That is a wonderful question! Plant Therapy buys our oils from top suppliers all around the world. We work directly with one of the most well known, world renowned, essential oil experts. To guarantee continuous quality, Plant Therapy’s oils (each batch) are tested by a third party laboratory using GC/MS testing, as well as in house by our expert. This guarantees that all testing matches up and that nothing is missed. Each step of the process is overseen by our expert. All of Plant Therapy’s oils are 100% pure, undiluted and free from any additives, chemicals or pesticides. We use these oils on ourselves, our children, families, and friends. The quality is held at a very high standard, and if an oil does not pass we do not sell it. Check out our quality page for more information: www.planttherapy.com/essential-oil-quality 💚💚😄😄
Remember, essential oils are only effective for VERY minor things. It can help boost your mood, and a few (like eucalyptus, which I really like) can help keep your sinuses clear, but that’s it.
Essential oils are by no stretch of the imagination a replacement for medication or therapy for any medical condition.
they are, stop spreading misinformation.
Hi! My question is about the differnce between regular and Kids safe oils. Is Kids safe oils are diluted or they are in the same dilution like for the adults?
Hello! Our oils are not prediluted. We do recommend diluting for topical application. Our KidSafe oils consist of oil that contain constituents that are safe for children! 💚
