Creating this song wasn't easy, but I'm so proud of how it turned out.
Want to say a big thank you for everyones support over the years. During the years trapped inside with chronic health problems the main thing that kept me going was a belief that one day I would come out the other side, and be able to achieve success through music. I don’t have a label, and sometimes pushing these things as hard as I want becomes a massive challenge, and I find myself frustrated that there aren’t enough hours in the day to push it as far as I want to. I would love to ask a favour to anyone who has ever enjoyed my music over the years, and it will only take a few minutes of your day.It would mean the world to me if you shared ‘Hi Ren’ as much as you can, over social media platforms, with friends, over email. Masterpiece by a true artist. In its purity of conception, expression and execution performance it speaks to anyone who has suffered and persevered, who strives to follow their creative impulses despite illness, physical and mental, and all other limitations. Words don't do it justice; it has to be experienced. I'm observing a lot of my own considerations in watching my reaction to what others reveal in the mirror of this raw and flawless art. Some few who actually allow themselves to surrender to it, so many who interrupt the flow with their own "stuff"...

When you mentioned, "There are now three people involved...." I interpreted it differently. Once 'good' Ren said he would kill him, bad homie dug his heels in the sand and started posturing like a boss. He essentially portrays his identity as all those that are evil whilst sending the message, "don't F with me!"

I love your reactions, and I can see that even though I'm subscribed, it's on another of my channels. I'm fixing that right now! This guy is a master of so many genres I suggest checking out his catalog and throwing a dart at anything, including music from his live band, The Big Push. My take on this.....

Starts with the vocal, symbolic of the internal chaos.

Then the struggle between the irrational, convincing voice and the introspective, insecure side...... Including suicidal thoughts.

Then, the brush with total mayhem.
But, surviving that brings understanding.

Things get quieter, and a more nature, calm self speaks to the irrational side, references the turning tide and looks *outwards* (towards us), then emerges, with hope, understanding the situation and rising (literally) to declare "Cower at the man I've become!" (Now, that's a line!)
Proclaiming the reasons for that strength while acknowledging the struggle....

Then, back to the vocal, but this time it's a celebration dance, with the voices, the complete person, the human being, in concert.

Great reaction. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 4 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are often recorded live in a single take (although not necessarily the first take). His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of his songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. I've been waiting to hear your opinion on this one, I thought you two would love this. I've fallen in to the Ren rabbit hole and I've listened to everything he has posted. He's currently in Canada receiving treatment and I hope it works and that he gets the healing he needs. As a person who's suffered misdiagnosis and getting treatment for an illness that I don't have while the doctors take a stab in the dark, I feel for this young man. At least that waited for me until my fifties but to have that in your twenties and bring your life to a halt, how depressing. The world needs more art like this! I find this young man to be absolutely mind blowing and many of his videos like this one are done in one take with just a man, his guitar, and his voice.

I enjoyed your surface reaction to his performance.
In some ways he reminds me of Pink Floyd with his expression of his medical issues and deep outlook on life.
Being diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS at 61, I can also relate to this in a much deeper way.
The pendulum for me swings hour to hour with my physical limitations.
I'm sure he goes through the same thing with Lyme.
Both diseases also lead to mental issues dealing with these limitations
I cant imagine having to suffer with Lyme disease at such a young age. Autoimmune problems rob you of so much of your life and with invisible illnesses such as Lyme and MS you can look normal so its hard for to people understand the struggle. He is a huge inspiration.
I have taught myself guitar to help deal with the my physical struggles and I really enjoy it.
Creativity is a great way to deal with these issues and highly recommend it.
Also being a Industrial designer have a been working on products to assist handicap people with their mobility issues which brings a new positive relevance to my life.
Everything happens for a reason and Ren has proven that to us with this beautiful piece of Art.

the inner critic IS the human condition of evil tendency. its powerful and intimidating and as old as time. but so is hope and good. the eternal dance is coming to terms with the innate existence of light as well as the darkness, and without one, the other too cannot exist. this song is a progressive revelation recognizing this condition, gaining the wisdom to identify the cycle and learning the patience and strength to dance it with dignity.

Personally, just my interpretation of this....quiet Ren represents the person that we are. Loud Ren represents the self doubt, self worth, fear, distraction which stems from the influence as he says created from the beginning of time. Quieter Ren steps up towards the end and realizes that deep within us there is always hope to fall back on, if let it.

It's interesting how it can be interpreted. I read it as his internal monologue struggle with himself to start off. But the more he fought back, the angrier his naysayer got, even resorting to insulting him and his art to try to tear him down. But he kept fighting back until that fritz out.... and then the REAL voice behind the naysayer comes out: the devil - who basically announces himself, bragging about everything he affects and touches - and he WILL be in control of what happens going forward. Instead, the devil finds himself be answered by God, who announces HIMSELF. Devil, nice f_cking try. But I'LL take it from here - and then Ren takes over and is "released," from the devil's clutch, in the form of that beautiful singing voice, you can FEEL the catharsis, it almost sounds like he's in church singing out a prayer, just begging for peace in his mind. It's an incredible piece of performance art.

Most people do have the internal dialogue with themselves, but there are some people who literally don't have it, sort of like non player characters in video games
