Dear Peter, I can't stop wondering about their lives now... I feel so sorry for them, and I hope they are all alive. God bless you all. Thank you for sharing this experience with the world. If we see other people's personal lives it might help to understand them better and see them as living beings instead of political questions.
Why would you feel sorry for them? They are a Russian family, being saved by Russia. Osypenko (a Russian town in a Russian country) has been liberated by Russian forces. Zhelensky is murdering Russians and trying to force them to become "Ukrainian".
Peter, I came across your channel and specifically the Ukrainian series. I dont usually leave comments but... these videos brought back a flood of memories. I am a 56 yr old married American, from Fargo, ND. Seven years ago (2014-15) I had the opportunity to live for a year in Kyiv (and travel some of Ukrainian). I arrived just a few months arrived from their overthrow of the corrupt govt. Initially very intense due to the conflict, lack of language knowledge, etc. What i came away with is EXACTLY what you speak of in this series... it was like I was back there again. I love the Ukrainian people, culture, and much of the simplicity of life. They know how to "live life" and i have life long friends. Although you probably wont see this post, i'd love to chat if it moves you todo so at some point. stay safe and enjoy your journeys!!
Hi Peter, thank you so much for sharing this amazing journey. I respect you for taking that bold step to go deep into a tiny village(when you could've gone to any city), when you didn't speak the language. It says a lot about you man and you got my hat off:) Will be looking forward to more videos! I have been learning the language for 7 months hence my interest. Good luck with everything, you have a lovely host family.
Thanks Stephen-Jones! Yes I think it's good to go out of the comfort zone, a lot to be gained from it. And I'm super lucky to have this family. Thanks for watching! And keep up on your studies. Good luck!
Питер, спасибо за желание, узнать Украину и украинцев получше! Добро пожаловать и всего самого хорошего! Отдельное спасибо, за очень добрые и позитивные видео!
Okay, I am from Ukraine, but I never heard anyone eating snails there :)), not that this is not a thing in some villages.... Just surprised. Obviously the family is non-traditional Christians, which is cool, they are much more open-minded. It is great that you get to experience what Ukie village is like. I honestly miss it a lot, the slowing down of the time especially. I hope you have fabulous time there! I am sure you will be fine :D
As i understand they are IDP from Avdeevka. Refugees have almost no help from government. In fact they could lost everything in Avdeevka. I mean house/jobs.
Why do i like to see Americans living in the Old World? LOL I think it was a great idea to live with that family and interact with the youngest kids: as they learn their own language, they are also best teachers of their mother tongue. And i think it was a great self-confidence boost ;p The name of that street, Cherry, the Ukrainian word for cherry sounds like the Romanian word for "sour cherry." I can definitely say that life/time slows down quite a bit in the countryside at least in the former Soviet countries. Did you still keep in touch with your host family? i hope they're safe. I discovered your channel last week, and i like to watch videos from the oldest to the newest ones uploaded: the story is more coherent.
Ihave the same feeling like yours when I meet my Ukrainian family in law. They also live in small villages and not rich but the happiness I saw from between them! God I hope the whole world can see this pure heart of Ukrainian people instead of what the only image they can see like pollution, war, bad economy and marriage website, I enjoyed your series with smile on my face til the last episode. Good job, bless you and the family.
Don't get discouraged with the language! You're doing so well! Earlier this year I was trying to teach my boyfriend some Ukrainian before our visit and well he didn't get nearly this far! Also as a Ukrainian it's very interesting to see how people from a different area live. There is so much variation from region to region in terms of local dishes, vocabulary and traditions which sadly rarely get documented are often lost.
I discovered your channel looong time ago, but I started binge-watching it today. You're doing a great job by showing how ordinary families live. In a way, families that don't have much, often seem a lot happier than us in the west. They smile more, they cherish what they have, they are a lot more generous than us. I see it every time I travel to less fortunate places. I live in Canada and even though canadians are very polite and nice, everyone seems to be occupied with stuff that's not that important, everyone is becoming alarmingly materialistic but still very unhappy. I had a bad day today because some kid smashed my windshield to steal a $50 GPS. I thought that was a big financial problem until I watched a couple of videos about Osypenko and this family. Perspective is everything! Keep making these videos, that's the content youtube is lacking nowadays.
It's rather the Ukrainians who they should be concerned about. The Russian speaking people of Ukraine have been persecuted by Ukraine for many years which led to Russia invading. Its like if we treated the french speakers of Maine badly for a decade as the US then Canada invades Maine to reclaim a section of if with the French speaking people who were being tormented. Of course nothing is black and white but i speak generally.
@@MrWuhisn you are spreading Russian propaganda.
