Love the music you’ve been reacting to lately. It’s the music of 80’s radio and the music of my childhood - or at least before I could really chose what I wanted to listen to (most of which wasn’t played on the radio back then). I never appreciated a lot of this stuff like I started to about 5 years ago, as I was too lost in what I saw as the “cooler” music I had chosen to surround my adult world with (which I certainly still enjoy). Have you done crowded house yet? One of the greatest Antipodean bands. And agree with the suggestions for Elvis Costello: Oliver’s Army and Veronica are my faves
The song takes on new meaning today considering the fires down under... Give a listen to "The Dead Heart" as well. The homeless men at the beach danced along the storm wall whenever that song came on the radio the summer of '87. "U.S. Forces get the nod..."
I love your reactions! They are full of passion and you are a unique individual born in the wrong time! I know you'd appreciate the talent of Tom Waits with his song "Tom Traubert's Blues". You can't get any more unique than this recording and I would give anything to hear Tom Waits sing it live.
This song is from the 1986 album Diesel & Dust …………...the rest of the album is fab too.. I was lucky enough to see this band play their last live gig in Sydney, Australia where they are based and I live.
It always struck me that the (magnificent) lead singer's life seemed to be about fire. He tried to rescue his mother who died in a fire in the family home. His band's biggest (international) hit was ''Beds are burning''. His political career will be forever marred for spearheading the home insulation program in which 4 people died and countless fires occurred. He has a tough run. I saw them live once - indescribable how good they are. I always admired them for making songs about the world and its people and their problems rather than romantic love and sex. PS I suggested this once before, but check out the song of an Australian Indigenous band called ''Yothu Yindi''. The song is called ''Treaty'' (original version is best). It will blow your ears with its original sound.
Oh, I LOVE this song!! Midnight Oil is an Australian rock band who wrote many socially conscious songs; this one is one of their biggest hits ever, certainly worldwide. The lead singer's name is Peter Garrett. This song is about the treaties that were broken between the Australian government and the indigenous Aboriginal tribes of Australia. This, tragically, is something that has been experienced by native tribes of many countries, including in North and South America, for a very long time. It still goes on. Of course, it isn't right. Peter Garrett actually went on to not only continue in music with Midnight Oil, but he became a politician in Australian government!
This song is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the Pintupi, who were among the very last people to come in from the desert.

The Cure, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, REM, Talk Talk, INXS, The Doors, Tears For Fears, Eurythmics, Duran Duran.... Many more, the rabbit hole is deep James my friend lol. I was born in 84, my musical taste is varied, from the wartime songs from Ella Fitzgerald, The Ink Spots, George Formby etc to the late 90s, I would concur that quality is still around in modern artists, just that the quality is becoming fewer and farther between the trash, and it's being drowned out.
This song built on my developing political awareness of indigenous, aboriginal and First Nations oppression and land theft. We’re still waiting to give it back, but our numbers and voice is growing
This song is about giving back the land to the true owners of our land, The Aboriginals. Midnight Oil are a large political band and wrote a lot of songs about Aboriginal rights. Peter Garrett, the lead singer, ended up becoming a member of parliament.
Musically this is so compelling, the driving beat and bass hook. While listening I tripped on how hard I was tapping to the beat! I never knew the political roots. That makes the song even more special.
This song with it’s weird breaks is what immediately caught me. Another song from this era which was sonically unique is “Owner of A Lonely Heart” by the Yes. And yes, the name of the band is Yes
Wow you are aware that the song was written decades ago & that "the beds are burning" is a metaphor. To criticise a song written about past injustices because you relate it to a recent natural disaster is unbelievable

One of my favorite bands. Glad you enjoyed it!
This song was played on the radio in the late 80's and is so familiar. I love watching people discover music for the first times...
This song introduced the MTV generation to Midnight Oil. Another great song by them is One Country. Definitely worth a listen!
Such an important song for all Australians.
I saw midnight oil twice in the late 1970's it was bloody awesome Aussie bands rock 100 percent 💓
Have you done crowded house yet? One of the greatest Antipodean bands. And agree with the suggestions for Elvis Costello: Oliver’s Army and Veronica are my faves
Crowded house's "Fall at your feet" is just beautiful.
andrew frick I adore that song. ❤️
midnight oil are wonderful, try more of thier songs, also an irish group called ""the pogues"" doing ""thousands are sailing ""
In Between Love, Downtown Train, Diamonds on the Soles of her shoes, and I hope I never fall in love with you.
Billy Joel with matter of trust org video is pure gold
Peter Garret legendary and yes 💯 percent unique
Power and the Passion is another great Midnight Oil hit. Hope you get to check it out too.
That were an awesome song 👍
This song
is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the Pintupi, who were among the very last people to come in from the desert.
Gotta do survivor with Jimi Jamison on vocals. So many great songs. The only guy that could hold a candle to Steve Perry. Start with desperate dreams . Guaranteed you will love it. R.I.P Jimi!!!!!!
From a 60 yr. old biker. Love what you do young man! Liked and Subbed. Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf Is a great song for you to do and I know you'll love it. Dexys Midnight Runners, Come on Eileen is just your flavor too!
I just started listening to you.you are my favorite reaction to music you stay just the way you are.dont listen to other people who try to bring you down.they are just mean, hateful, and miserable. Stay strong.
If you look at their web site you’ll understand the true meaning of this song. It’s really worth the read.
This song built on my developing political awareness of indigenous, aboriginal and First Nations oppression and land theft. We’re still waiting to give it back, but our numbers and voice is growing
Another great song
Young Radicals......You Get What You Give!
I saw them live many years ago
before they got famous
Should definitely check out their other song Blue Sky Mine
I enjoyed watching your reaction video. Thank you!
You're gonna love Power and the Passion, same guys.
This song with it’s weird breaks is what immediately caught me. Another song from this era which was sonically unique is “Owner of A Lonely Heart” by the Yes. And yes, the name of the band is Yes
Your head started to bop with just a few beats in
It's the bass, so important in the rhythm section, not just percussion.
Dude, you and your family have great taste in music! You are my new favorite reactor. :)
Great song, good to listen to the sound and the subtle message as well.
Try Down Under by Men At Work. Another great Aussie band. I’m sure your Auntie knows it. She’s awesome! 👍
Wow. With them being Australian, hearing them singing about anything burning makes me sad right now. So much devastation there.😢
Wow you are aware that the song was written decades ago & that "the beds are burning" is a metaphor. To criticise a song written about past injustices because you relate it to a recent natural disaster is unbelievable
@@noelwebb6843 where did I criticize the song? I know what "beds are burning" means, you damn fool. The term itself brought the wildfires to my mind, because literally, their beds were burning! You know what's unbelievable? That a person has so little do to that they would take time to comment on this. It was over a year ago. 😂 Get a life, troll.
Check out their songs "Blue Sky Mine" and "Golden Age."
Maaaan, that hoook of that Chorus , addicting
The Oil's, best band EVER!!
👌😉👍
