Love this video, I imagine people spend a few hundred dollars at the very minimum for a plumber to come out and take care of the smell in your drains, the vinegar and baking soda worked great thank you so much for the video
Best thing that works for me is Odoban. I buy the large jug of concentrated liquid and pour some down the drains (double sink in kitchen). Sometimes I pour the whole jug into them if they are particularly smelly. Works well for me.
I get bottled lemon juice 3 pack from Costco. When it smells funky, I just run hot water, turn it off and pour a little bit of the lemon juice. Let it sit then I go and turn on the hot water and garbage disposal at same time for a short rinse and voila! No funky smell! 😁😉🙌🙌🙌 I do this once a month.
For disposal blockage, I occasionally use Dawn dish detergent. Squeeze a liberal amount into to drain, a splash of water, a quick spin of the disposal, and it roughly cleans the side-slot grinders of the disposal (if that type). Seems to work better than trying to brush it.
I use the baking soda vinegar method AND I save used juiced lemons cut into quarters in my freezer. I use the frozen lemon bits instead of ice to grind/clean the disposer blades
Thanks for this tip! I went with the baking soda, vinegar and a pot of boiling water. It seemed to do the trick. I also use a pipe brush that looks like a baby bottle brush only bigger and using some Dawn dishwashing soap I was able to clean the sides of the pipe going up and down all around pipe. The Dawn cut the sludge and built up grease like crazy. I shined a light down into the drain and you could clearly see where the baking soda, vinegar, pipe brush and Dawn did the trick. Smell is gone! Thanks big time!
We really need to STOP spreading bad info... Mixing Baking soda and Vinegar will help to DO NOTHING! the reaction you see is generating only production of CO2. That's it. Nothing else!
Hello! I would like to know how to clean and deodorize the other side of the sink, the one without the disposal? Is there a way to remove the inner stainless steel piece that prevents one from putting a brush down into it? Thanks for any information!
We really need to STOP spreading bad info... Mixing Baking soda and Vinegar will help to DO NOTHING! the reaction you see is generating only production of CO2. That's it. Nothing else!
I usually brush my teeth and rinse with mouthwash in my kitchen sink twice a day so that should help somewhat. By the way, my sink does not smell terribly bad and the garbage disposal is separate from the sink.
Hi Tom, my kitchen sink that has a fairly new garbage disposal smells like sulfur but only when I run the water. I’ve tried ice cubes, baking soda and vinegar but nothing is getting rid of it. Any insights? Thanks
Once a month I put a whole 4 lb. box baking soda down each drain , followed by the hottest water from faucet . Then pour a gallon of white vinegar down each one to set overnight .
Baking soda and vinegar works the best. It may take some time but it will eventually work it's way through. Bleach does not work for those who are on a septic field or gray field method.
The issue I have is that the odor coming from all drains including shower, bath and bathroom sink. Could you please send me the link of your video? And also any recommendations would very much appreciated.
Hello! I’ve tried cutting lemon in half and freezing it and then putting them in the sink while running hot water and the disposal on. Could you tell me how you do the lemon and vinegar? Is it similar to what I do?
Vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out! One is an acid and the other is a base. How do you figure that works??? It just makes a mess if you mix them. Maybe try one or the other.
Someone told me after cleaning it with waiter bleach or using the baking soda method that I should try putting some slices of lemon through with the garbage disposal then on and that should help the smell? Also it’s acidic so maybe that helps break stuff up in some way? Idk lol I haven’t tried it yet but I wanna try that today so I’m not sure if that will help the smell but worth a try maybe?
If you have a garbage disposal, ice cubes work really well! If you put in a few and turn on the disposal, it will help clear off any leftover food down there. Let us know if that works!
How do you clean the dishwasher hose? I've tried all methods, and it's not my sink. I'm quite sure it's the dishwasher hose. I don't have a garbage disposal.
Why a dishwasher would smell if the dishwasher cleans the dishes and soap and rinze everything inside the diswasher with very hot water, then why would smell it?
I’m in a mobile home and all my sinks stink, what do you do when they all stink,I’ve done vinager and baking soda and boiling water, done bleach, did drank, help
Well i tried both the baking soda vinegar and boiling water and tried the bleach back to back and drain still smells i also took off the p trap to check for water it had water and it did its also a new p trap now i cant smell it when standing in the kitchen anymorw but can if i stick my head over the drains
Same here. Our kitchen sink, only the left side, smells like mildew. Tried bleach, tried the vinegar and baking soda, tried boiling water and it keeps coming back. The right side is not the issue. Makes me think I’m going to have to take the pipes apart and clean them or replace them.I have to do something because I can’t stand the smell.
question: I have some taps my landlord just had replaced, washers and everything. Now the water that comes out smells like oil/grease that smells like my mechanic dad after his shift. It's not over powering but definitely a smell there. Even in the cup when I've sniffed it, the water is still clear and there's no rainbow sheen to it, and it's stronger when we use the hot water. But every tap he's touched has this smell to the water. The water does taste slightly off. Should I just flush the taps and if so, how long? I'm not wanting to call them again cause it took a few months to get them to believe me there was an issue.
Well I heard the baking soda should sit for 15 minutes, then add a cup of vinegar and leave it for another 15 minutes, then add the boiling water, and another source said flush it with hot water for a few minutes, and another source said after you add the baking soda and vinegar to leave it for at least a few hours before flushing it with hot water. I dont think you're allowing the solutions enough time to work their magic, but your method may still work just probably not as well, i dont k ow, but a third source say put a cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar, leave it a few minutes then add the boiling water. Personally i just tried the cup of vinegar for 30 minutes and then added a kettle of boiling water and further flushed it with 2 minutes of hot water will see if that works, i think it's done something
I am puzzled with the unique smell I have in my kitchen after I had a back up sink. I had to carry the soapy, dirty water from the sink to the bathroom to prevent to flow on the kitchen floor while waiting for the plumber. The water comes from apts above me and from the side apt. I had this back up sink many times in the past and last time it happened, the landlord had to fix the hole kitchen and put brand new pipes from the ground and in the wall below the sink, and now after 2 years, the back up sink again. In my opinion, back up sink would never happen if other neighbors didn't use the garbage disposal as dumpster. Sink is for water running not to dump food. After the ordeal of carring the water from sink to the bathroom back and forth, after the plumber fixes the cloggling and OMG the unique smell that stays in the air during the back up and after the fixing and cleaning. Why this smell. I can't describe the smell. All I know is sickening, very subtle. Why this smells. Is the mixture of the grease, soap and dirty causing this unique smell? I can't describe the smell. It's not rotten, it's not sewer smell. What's that smell? I had to change clothes, washed many times my hands, and I still smell it after one day. The smell is agonizing in a very subtle way. People were telling me to sue the landlord because of the smell, the delay to fix it, the repetitive back up sink, repetitive flood on my floor.
It is most likely the “grey water” smell that forms from soap that has bonded to oils while cleaning dishes. The soap doesn’t clean the smell; instead, the soap maps the water carry away the dirty material. That dirty material mixed with the smell of soap makes the grey water smell. You can small this same oder in places that irrigate their flower beds or fill their Las Vegas ponds with recycled non-sewage water.
Make sure you put the p-trap back on before you run any water through it. Don't be like me and take off the p-trap and then go to the sink to wash it. Luckily I still had the bucket underneath.
Also the underside of the rubber piece on the disposal side of the sink, gets slimy biofilm on it from food splashing back. Clean the underside of that. It's nasty.

Your fav solution has come close to solving my problem. It is awful and I've spent about 75$ on three solutions that didn't touch it. Thank you.
We are so happy it helped you!
I had those problems with my kitchen sick. What I watched I had my son do several things on this program. And it did work for us.
You are a life saver.I hate bad smell... I did the vinegar and baking soda. That was amazing.Thank you so much...
Of course!

The lemon is what helped the most...
Many times the odor is coming from your dishwasher hose connection.
I’ll try that; thank you. Our plumber said to just clean the nasty rubber thing, but it didn’t help the smell.
Thanks for this tip! I went with the baking soda, vinegar and a pot of boiling water. It seemed to do the trick. No, but can unlock drain pipe from bottom.
Great easy/detailed video! Will try the vinegar & baking soda method, TY for your time!
Thank you very helpful!! I used the backing soda vinegar method as well.
Wonderful!

Would the vinegar and baking soda method work for a mold odor? thank you.
Good video Dino Baking Soda and vinegar worked for me but the soda part I had to you Vess cola 😁😁😁😁
You explained this so well. I actually feel like I can do this. Thank you...new subscriber!
Thanks for subbing!
Thanks Tom. Going to go with the baking soda n vinegar method.....
Did it work?
@@1-Tom-Plumber yes it did thank you....
Baking soda and vinegar worked like a charm and lemon juice afterward. So fresh. Now.
Yay!
Thanks very much for sharing. I will surely be trying this.
I usually brush my teeth and rinse with mouthwash in my kitchen sink twice a day so that should help somewhat. By the way, my sink does not smell terribly bad and the garbage disposal is separate from the sink.
This is Hollywood I think I'm going to try the vinegar and baking soda method for my kitchen sink 😮
Will the boiling water not affect the pvc pipes or the pvc cement negatively?
No.
When it comes to vinegar; does ‘distilled white vinegar’ work?
yes! that's what I used
The baking soda and vinegar worked Great Thank You👍👍
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much for this very informative video 🥰❤️
You are so welcome!
I tried them all at once, except for the pipe removal. I'll keep you posted
Awesome, thanks! Hopefully it works out for you!
Hi Tom, my kitchen sink that has a fairly new garbage disposal smells like sulfur but only when I run the water. I’ve tried ice cubes, baking soda and vinegar but nothing is getting rid of it. Any insights? Thanks
@@seidelbaumI have had 85% success with this method but once wasn’t enough. I went through the entire procedure many times.
Hot water and washing/laundry powder is pretty successful especially for grease.
Once a month I put a whole 4 lb. box baking soda down each drain , followed by the hottest water from faucet . Then pour a gallon of white vinegar down each one to set overnight .
Thanks!

This was great, thank you!
Is baking soda and vinegar okay in shower/tub drains, and is it okay in sinks that don't have a garbage disposal like bathroom sinks?
The issue I have is that the odor coming from all drains including shower, bath and bathroom sink. Could you please send me the link of your video? And also any recommendations would very much appreciated.
The first few seconds made me laugh hard, instantly liked it although all the techniques are pretty useful too.
hahaha thank you! Glad our tips helped :)
Great ideas 👍Thanks for sharing.
Have you ever tried lemon 'n' vinegar ice cubes? They are perfect for cleaning and deodorizing your garbage disposer?
Hello! I’ve tried cutting lemon in half and freezing it and then putting them in the sink while running hot water and the disposal on. Could you tell me how you do the lemon and vinegar? Is it similar to what I do?
Can I use Borax with vinegar or washing soda with vinegar
My garbage disposal sink side always feels like crap 💩
I will give these a try
Hopefully they work for you!!
Is boiling water too hot? I have been taught not to put too hot water into the drain
Vinegar and baking soda cancel each other out! One is an acid and the other is a base. How do you figure that works??? It just makes a mess if you mix them. Maybe try one or the other.
I tried the vinegar and baking soda, it still has a nasty order. The bleach is not recommended on septic systems, thanks anyway.

Lemon juice and baking soda works
@@slayer283How much you used?
@@josegonzalez-sampedro4003 I used a cup of each but feel free to use as much lemon juice as you want or needed
Do I do anything different with a 2 sided sink? Just do the same thing at the same time for both?

Can i use apple cider vinegar instead of white and baking powder instead of soda?
i always use the vinegar and bicarb of soda then hot water works a treat
I did the baking soda and vinegar then boiling water, it helped for about two days and the smell is back, any suggestions?
Won’t bleach mess up the septic system?
Thanks so much for sharing ❤️❤️

Could be a sewer gas issue

vinegar and baking soda works fine
Yes it does!
Didn’t work for me
1 part bleach mixed with 4-5 parts water works very well. let it stand 20+ minutes
Bad idea pouring hot water down the drain. It can soften the glue that’s holding the pipes together and can cause leaks
Thank you ... Question... Would that harm in any way the garbage disposal???
Is using also boiling water will harm the PVC pipes at all????
No
My sink only smells' when my washing machine pumps water out ,WHY
Washing machine drain pipe not vented properly.
Usually the odor is caused by the gases backing up from the main sewer pipes.

Not a solution but don’t pour bleach into something that smells like or may be ammonia. It could produce chloramine gases which can make you sick
