This perspective hits on all levels! One that got me was Terri’s biological origin. I found out 10 years ago that my mom’s oldest sister was from my grandma’s previous relationship before my grandfather. She was light-skin, green eyed, bougie, and didn’t eat chitlings😂.
To me, Terri got a bad rap because she did so much for a family who usually dumped problems out on her. Miles cheated because Terri is a stiff. You can tell that’s the character direction. Max knew Kenny was with Terri and decided to get with him knowing that was her sisters man and then waved it in her sisters face that she did so. Then she was the financial anchor that everybody ran to for support. Plus she had a shitty ass movie wig, you see that nonsense?
Right, I actually liked the series better than the movie. Nicole Ari Parker played the Teri character whose aesthetic very much resembles Tyra Banks. Teri having a different father is a possibility. However, based on the photo of the father, he was a lighter skinned man with possibly light eyes. It seems the casting of Tyra Banks in that role was only to make the claims against "daddy" MORE credible to the audience. Considering that Tyra Banks had limited acting experience and range. Vanessa Williams is not a biracial woman. Her and he brother (who's also an actor) have fair skin and light eyes. They obviously have distant white lineage, but both her parents are lighter skinned black folks with brown eyes. She did one of those genealogy shows. I believe she WAS selected for her crossover appeal and popularity at that time for the movie. Vanessa Williams plays "Rich B*tch" convincingly well and has been damned near typed cast in those types of roles ever since.
It might interest you to know this: I’m a post-50-year-old white guy whose experience with black culture is limited at best. I’ve seen some films, read some books, listed to some comedians, but haven’t had the chance to know black people or culture personally very well. Plus, I’m not Christian, so I don’t even have THAT in common. So, I stumbled across your channel a year or so ago, and I started watching everything. I’m into the social sciences, so learning about folks that are not me is fun and interesting. I’ve been sharing your links with my few black friends and asking for opinions and such. This has turned into one of the richest learning experiences of my life. All of them have strong opinions. VERY strong. Negative and positive. Long story short, your stuff is provoking thought and conversation in unexpected quarters. I thought you might get a kick out of that.
5:47 Ya pissed me off with this one. I forgot this was just a sneak peek and had just sat down at 5:41 to enjoy this episode after cleaning the house. Sox seconds later…but I already had my notifications set for Wednesday. Be good my brother.
3:16 🤯😭😳 HOT Dang...well...my mom had 5 girls before my dad married her although he already had a son and ex-wife. 🤫 but atleast no side kids spawned in their marriage. And you're right at the time I saw this movie there was controversy around Vanessa Williams skin color and ethnicity or race. People were none too happy that she was being placed in a predominantly black looking family for this role. Looks great so far Layman 🧨👍🏽
Whoa whoa whoa bro...I'm from the south and I don't eat chitterlings lmao. My aunt used to clean and cook them and I couldn't stand the smell much less eat them. Great perspective though brother. I never thought about it this way and I have watched soul food thousands of times. Hell I had it on DVD and had the soundtrack lol. Looking forward to the full video.

I can’t wait for this breakdown..yeah big mama mentions this isn’t her first marriage either. So this will be interesting
🙏🏾
I thought she was uptight cuz she was the family ATM. Lol.

Maybe, but in Soul Food the Series (Showtime) they found out Big Mama's husband had a whole other family. Tyra Banks was one of the daughters.
