I started watching your channel about a week ago, and after the first few videos, I subscribed. I just love your ideas. I used to take classes from a well known art teacher in Florida, who sadly is now deceased. She always started her classes with two five minute warmups. I’ve tried six of your warmups so far and look forward to trying more.
Hey Bonnie! Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm sorry to hear about your teacher-it sounds like you gained some good knowledge and practices for her.😊 I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying these videos❤️
Thanks for another good exercise, Chris. I really like the idea of not painting to the margins but it opens up a whole ball of wax for me: how do I not end up with a victorian "vignette" effect; on canvas, should the entire field first be painted in a neutral tone; maybe finish with a loosely-fitted negative paint layer? As you can see, I have the facility to talk myself out of a great idea and the answer just now came to me - just do the exercises and experiment!
Hey Ann! I say find your own path through the exercise and experiment. Painting the whole surface with a neutral tone sounds like a wonderful idea to me. Your willingness to explore and question is exactly what turns a good idea into a personal breakthrough. You got this! 👍
Thanks for another great video! I like both - my favorite is #2 & looks like a door to parts unknown. Love the colors and not painting to the margins is something I may try.
Thanks, Richard! Yeah, it really is. I've tested a couple in frames that I didn't think too much of and ended up selling them. Presentation can make a big difference.
The second one I think I liked it more than the first, I liked it the original way round, it looks like it could be a cave or doorway. The first one I could get to like more especially after you put a bit more of the red into it, and again I like it the original way round, it looks like a couple of people maybe considering climbing a mountain. It would be interesting to know how yung or Freud would analyse them😅 do you ever draw with your non dominant hand? I practise it sometimes, I probably should do so more often. As always thank you for sharing your process. Cheers!
Thanks, Howling! You saw what I saw-a door and a couple. I would be scared to have my paintings analyzed by Freud and Jung 😂😂 I don't draw with my non dominant hand, but of course now I have to give that a go. I bet you can get some really interesting marks doing that. I think that's how I will warm-up on Monday. Cheers!
@@chrisloudart I think I'd be scared as to what yung and Freud would make of my scratchings too!😁. I do a gestural mark first then use my non dominant (left) hand and scribble it into something and I try not to lift my hand from the page, and I use an art line marker pen so all the mistakes stay, no erasing. So I've done some little figures of a child in ballet gear, and someone doing tai chi (made up someone), and a person who fell asleep whilst reading a book, and so the list goes on. The weird thing is they're reasonably proportionately correct, if I do it with my right hand they're not, I'm weird!😁 And I limit myself to 15mins. I'd send you a picture of one of them except I don't know how to do that on RUclips. Cheers!
@howlingwind1937 You've inspired me to try this! I made a few initial marks on a painting yesterday with my left hand (no -dominant) to give it a go and I was surprised how little control I actually had. Part of that was because the teeth of the canvas grabbed at the marker. I might have to make a video about this.😊
@@chrisloudart that's wonderful that you gave it a go! I know the lack of control once you find your flow, gets to be quite good fun, then you stop using the art liner like a pen and hold it at the very end, the control is zero, its crazy I know😳🤪🙃
Well ... in my quick study... at the end seein there were 2 very abtract birds... each got a dot for an eye. Used 2 shades of green, med blue, bright yellow, and a med beige... acrylic paint pens were easy 2 grab 4 ur short video lesson in *just do it* 😅. Ann
@chrisloudart zeyar ... a thrift store find. Started out / bk thin mark lines ... so ... good...what an experience. 👍 Then ... tried to create a bridge... so sad the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland had that 😢 accident.... the world should B thankful for what we have.
What do I see??? A big fat cat with a huge fluffy tail and people holding up the tail as it walks away. 😁Then, I see a building with a door and pathway outside the door, and an undone ribbon on the top. These are very pretty...and very creative!🎨🖌️
I tend to "see* things in the marks, so maybe no talent for abstracts. To me these are "Man in a hat sitting in front of a rock" and "Vase of wilting flowers"... Thanks for sharing.
#1 I see a faceless woman with big red earrings and black hair drapping over her shoulder in an evening gown leaning forward #2 upside down I see an empty glass and right side up I see a messy bouquet of wild flowers in an orange vase.
#1 I see a man and woman, he is taller than her, hugging each other under a bright yellow sky. #2 I see a funny flower, looking at an orange vase …wondering if it should get in or not
Another great warm-up Chris. Thank you, as always.
Thank you, Susie! Happy you enjoyed it😊
I watch this almost every day ❤❤the best talk to the cutest pit. It makes my day ❤️❤
Thanks, Ana! That makes me happy to hear ☺️

Nice. Isn’t it amazing how placing a simple frame around a piece brings it to life!
Thanks, Richard! Yeah, it really is. I've tested a couple in frames that I didn't think too much of and ended up selling them. Presentation can make a big difference.
I like the 2nd one
Thanks, Susan!
They 1st one looks like a cave and the 2nd one like a door from a garden
We had similar thoughts on the 2nd one. I like your perspective of a cave on the 1st. ❤️
I do like both of them esp. the one with the scribble#2. Great colours too. Thanks Chris for another interesting video. 👍👍👍
Thanks, Andrea! So glad you like them 😊
You always give great depths to your paintings
Ty for another great video teaching us to just paint ❤ play away
Thanks, Kelly! I'm getting ready to go play now 😊🖌️

No 1, lighthouse on a penisula. No. 2 doorway to ancient times . 👏👏👏👏👏👏 l both however doors are my favourite

What was surprising....a 3rd bird😅.
