- About 10 years ago, we drove a @Mercedes-AMG SUV that defied physics but can the same apply when the propulsion system changes from a twin turbo V8 to dual motor AWD EV? That is the question MotoMan attempts to answer in taking the 617 HP @mbusa AMG EQE SUV from San Diego to Santa Monica and comes up with some surprising results . . .

Don't see the point in buying any of these when Mercedes has already shown the tech coming in their next EVs with the EQXX. These are short lived first generation products
I saw an EQE recently and I liked it better in person than in pictures. The curvy rear end is nice and you don’t see many of them so it’s unique. I’m not a fan of hyper screen, at least in terms of what it looks like compared the the tablet version. The normal size integrated infotainment screen looks nice and the hyper screen just looks like overkill. I lovely car for a rich person.
The weight hinders its range . And if you live in cold
Climate the weight plus cold will
Deplete it quicker
Is that the Goldilocks EV SUV from Mercedes? They are all so heavy still - I might wait for the solid state battery, that would be half the weight. Or I would go for iX if I have to buy one this year. But looks good!
Add lightness. Physics is physics, and 3 tons is redonkulous, no matter how much power you have. The problem is that lightness is big bucks. Shaving one of those tons off is just not going to happen at MB. Porsche maybe, but not MB.
I would lease this and wait for a gen 2.
This looks better than the EQE sedan. 😎👍
I've been driving an EQE SUV loaner while my EQS SUV gets repaired. Neither one is good with bumpy roads / pot holes. You WILL feel the bumps. The suspension is stiff even in comfort mode! The EQS's massaging seats features a weak massage. So if you're looking for a plush ride and with a good deep quality massage, look elsewhere. Oh, and I was firmly told by Mercedes Benz staff that if I switch the original air suspension to a more plush after-market one, it will void the 4 year warranty.
That does not look like a 100 grand car!
Not bad, I'm not ready to go full ev because I'm still hooked on ice acoustics
In that same club.
I wanted to like all the EQ's.. but with price mark ups and bland design.. the locked in price of the Rivian R1S was too hard to pass.
Great car but I think a GLS with petrol is better suited for my wife
I would agree for most people.
In yesterdays thumbnail and todays video, that vehicle doesn’t look very tall. To me it looks almost coupe like and much shorter in height than an ICE GLE. Are my eyes deceiving me?
0-60 in 3.4 seconds….wow!
With just you driving that’s over 1500 lbs. of weight per tire….sheesh!
It is a design trick of the EQ series . . . they hide their mass more so than other SUVs/CUVs.
I think you’re right, about 4 inches shorter than GLE/ML.
Let’s go… so even though it’s the best proportioned EQ it is very thirsty, given its weight and performance metrics. At least they gave GM a slight advantage, being no longer the heaviest with the Lyric.😉 Hands-down would rather have this than any GM any day, Beyond all that I’m sticking with my IONIQ 5 2023 Limited and I’ll take two that price. Thank you. 10:35
What is it with German car companies that they HAVE to make their EV's UGLY!
Not just the Germans, all of them feel the need to make their EV designs different for the sake of being different. Here is one that does NOT do that . . . ruclips.net/video/kebWdMURCE8/видео.html
I’ve lived with an EQE SUV 350 for a month now. I thought I wanted the hyper screen, now I’m convinced I didn’t. I’m curious to see what’s decided for this model.
The size is noticeably smaller than my ‘14 ML, but I appreciate the lower center of gravity. Rear wheel steering does need to be called out more as a benefit. My dealer barely mentioned it but it’s been a great feature.
And yes, this is obviously early days for Mercedes. Waiting for the first major revision of these models would be smarter. The fact that they’ve already decided to switch to the Tesla NACS plug is evidence that things are still up in the air. I was in need of a new vehicle, had to be electric, and long ago decided the build quality and materials of Tesla weren’t my thing.
If you worry the 350 is too slow, get the 350 4matic and pay the $1900 for acceleration boost. I don’t think you’d miss the performance in comparison to the 500.
I think the EQE SUV is the best looking of all the EQ jellybeans. Therefore, the EQE AMG SUV would be the best EQ vehicle overall.
We considered waiting for this.. but sticking with R1S.. we are now in the purchase process and we got a VIN #. We have leased 3 straight -3 year lease from MB and previously purchased older AMG V8 Kompressor and bi turbos. Not buying the EQ direction..
I know you didn't mention the price, but I'm kinda pissed knowing that it's gonna be hyper-expensive, yet this thing can only charge at 170 KW DC, and only 9.6 KW AC. What a god damn scam.
Its for the rich and not for the broke
Better get a fire extinguisher in the garage...
AMG EQE XYZ PDQ...
Holy flying f**k Batman 3 tons?!? I know batteries are heavy but geezus!!! I couldn't look at you while you were talking and driving because my eyes kept going to the glare off the cluster... At least the exterior color was nice.
I agree with you that to be a better AMG product, MB needs to get the weight of this thing down. Between the lack of range and the weight of the batteries, I just can’t pull the trigger yet on any of these first gen EV’s. I really think once solid state batteries are able to be perfected that the weight of the battery pack and charging time will go down along with the range and performance going up.
Soon you'll need a bus driver license, seeing how fast these vehicles are becoming
Re: Wish list, I totally agree!
