- Well, this day was always coming. While this EQE is not a fully-fledged AMG model (those are still to come), this is the very first electric vehicle from Mercedes to wear the AMG badge. And it certainly is interesting.
The EQE43 is a 350kW bahnstormer with a properly decent-sized battery delivering a usable (official) range of over 400km. It's a luxurious tech fest in the cabin too although as Ciro De Siena found out, the build quality leaves quite a lot to be desired.
Join our video journalist Ciro for an in-depth look at the Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 sedan, where he discusses the price, rivals, rear seat space, boot space and of course what it's like to drive.

I have no complaints about the lack of exhaust sounds in the edit on this video😂😂
You guys knocked this review for a six well done guys
Thank you so much for touching on the interior build and material quality. It's truly awful in every new Mercedes. I can't believe the exposed wiring at 13:29! As a Mercedes customer for the last years having had the bomb proof and solid 2005 W203 C Class, a W204 C Class (not great but better than now) and currently a W212 E350, they have completely lost me. Because how can you pay so much for a car built like this. And they do not listen to customers. Everyone complains but they're so arrogant and do nothing. They tell me because the cars need to be lighter? Wtf. Lol. BMWs are lighter and don't feel like they're put together with pritt and sellotape. My friends bought a Chery Tiggo 8 and I was so blown away especially by the fact that is has better build and materials than every single modern Merc I've sat in yet it's half the price of the cheapest Merc SUV. So Mercedes has no excuse. They need to get their shit together. They've lost customers and will continue to do so at this rate.
it's honestly embarrassing at this point..
@@MrModikoe totally. I'd be embarrassed to drive any of the new Mercs. Imagine having paid so much money for a car that's no better than some Chinese cars half the price in terms of build and materials. All while those Chinese cars are driving themselves because they didn't need to add expensive optional extras for things like radar cruise which you have to in a Merc. And Mercs don't even feel great inside because half of everything nice is an optional extra.
@@SDav21 Materials and build quality on my EQE have been perfect so far. I don't know what you are on about.
@@Hyrppa95 It isn't really perfect though is it? Press the Centre of the dash above the middle of the Centre airvents and hear the creaks. Also, the hard plastic on the lower half of the doors isn't quality. Neither are the creaky shiny black plastic bits around the seat controls on the door. I've also driven Mercs for most of the years I've been driving, and the new ones are completely off my list because they can not match the quality of those from the late 2000s to early 2010s. Nevermind those Pre 1990.
Thanks for the content 🙏
So you can get a m340i for much less that is just as fast and better built
So Surrell to see it with a GP Number plate, I never thought it will arrive sooner, I love the EQE over the EQS which is elongated, few days ago I saw The BMW XM in white on the opposite freeway lane and it looked as good as it did on RUclips.
Thanks for a fantastic review tho, they just keep getting better every week! I especially enjoyed the creaking dash montage hahah. 10/10 would rofl again.
Much appreciated!
With the AMG body it looks nice❤and the power and tech is looks next level👌
Overpriced with typical modern Mercedes poor build and material quality. Having been a Mercedes owner for 10 years, my 2014 E350 diesel will be my last Mercedes. I've driven the new cars. New C, new E, GLC and GLE. All are such a massive disappointment. They feel brittle and frail. They don't feel solid like old Mercs used to. Most features you get standard on a Chery or Haval are optional. And at these prices it's just stupid and hard to justify the purchase of any Mercedes. In the past you could justify it because you had a car built like nothing else. High quality everywhere. Now it isn't even that. And without many features it makes even less sense. This brand has lost me completely. They're a massive disappointmemt.
The drive for electric cars have cut budgets across brands. I’ve been in a recent VW, BMW, and the C and S class, and to be honest, as much as I love Benz, ALL of these cars’ interior quality has gone down the drain
@@Jakdennnnnnn3d333 VW is bad too but BMW is still great. They haven't gone to horrible lengths like Mercedes has. Also, it's no excuse. Chinese brands are building much better quality cars at lower prices. Mercedes costs more than ever and they're making higher profits than they've ever made because of cost cutting. They're cutting costs and charging higher prices simply for higher profits. I don't buy the narrative that electric cars are to blame. They've got the know how and legacy to build something that doesn't feel like it's been put together with pritt and sellotape. The Chinese cars are going to destroy the German car industry at this rate. Because I for one will never buy another Mercedes with this lack of quality and lack of features at these prices. It can't be justified anymore.
I cannot agree more! I owned a 2022 W206 C220d for just 9 months and the hassles I had with it was highly irritating. In ten days from driving it off the showroom floor the ABS module failed which rendered the car unsafe to drive. It took a month for the replacement part to arrive. The dash rattled and squeaked incessantly. Remote batteries had to be replaced because half the time the car could lock or unlock. Then the car half the time didn’t “see” the key so it wouldn’t start. Cheap plastics all over. The main centre screen looked like it had water inbetween the layers. Gear changes were acceptable but floppy sometimes. Apple CarPlay never worked properly
I am happy to say I don’t drive it.
Mercedes has lost the plot .
@@cobusl1 I know someone who also had a 2022 C200 and told Mercedes to take it back after 6 months for similar issues. Mercedes is arrogant enough to say all this is okay.
The Germans have embraced planned obsolescence big time. And with big price tags to match. The Mercedes-Benz cars nowadays are really ugly looking, too.
I was once against electric cars but since my school bought electric busses...... I can say that electric vehicles are not bad after all❤
I really hope the day comes in my lifetime where these are more affordable, like less than half the price they currently go for. I would love to own and drive one but the pricing right now is just in another universe from where most of our budgets sit.
Electric vehicles becoming unpopular overseas.
"Mercedes" - *proceeds to reveal panel creaks* hahahaha brilliant!
They must allow you to download your own soundtrack to simulate engine noise. Already third party apps available via OBD II connection.
Thanks for the brutally honest nitpick on the interior.
You can only push plastics so far before needing metal bracing to add stiffness... but my guess is Mercedes' engineers know this already, so this is questionable on a R2M car. Rushed counter to Tesla, whose fit and finish is also not great? I suppose all manufacturers are using the Electric excuse to experiment a little too much on things other than the drivetrain.
Also there appears to be warping in the grille area, accentuated by the gloss finish. Ew.
On editing: Music levels much better. Don't be afraid to completely mute it for specific sounds, ESPECIALLY a juicy ICE exhaust note.
Not Cicero doing “Bentleah” 😂
Ciro can that vehicle tow a generally small sizable trailer..just for more added luggage space, say 750kg?
It will take me time to move to these electric cars
The build quality of modern Benzes has been an issue of recent..
very poor
Definitely. They're terrible and Mercedes refuses to listen to their customers. Therefore, my 2014 E350 diesel will be my last Mercedes.
Sometimes I think it's done on purpose, most of these cars start giving problems as soon as the maintenance plan and warranty has expired. There is definitely an expiry date on new cars. Business is tough since the Asians are flooding the market.
I wanna see what's inside the bonnet
Let's wait for the BMW i5 I have a feeling that will be the best car next year can't wait .
Nope it not see reviews
Yep, check throttle house review. Brilliant car
@@idesmasingi2663 don't lie
How is SA’s network of charging stations? Can it handle the amount of electric vehicles? Just curious mates
Pretty good actually. But still, you need to able to charge at home
Can't get over the line on the window by your right shoulder, I am trying so hard imagine it disappear 😵💫
Hey carscoza, are there any decent plug-in hybrids in our market that don't cost a fortune? I don't do a lot of driving these days working from home and I've got solar installed so it'd be sick to charge from solar (even if it takes ages), but all the PHEV cars I see are 800k, 900k+. I see the Corolla Cross Hybrid, but that's a closed loop system. Where are the cheaper PHEVs?
There are some Chery PHEVs due in SA next year, although pricing has not been confirmed. We'll keep an eye on it all for you
@@Carscoza cool - can't say I'm attracted to the Chery brand... but if they sell enough so the VW, Toyota and Mazda wakes up to this demand in SA, I'll grab one of those. Really just want a Vivo/Fiesta/Mazda 2 class car, maybe slightly larger/nicer - but I want to charge it with solar if at all affordable. Right now you can still buy a massive amount of petrol with the difference...
@@pieterrossouw8596 Do yourself a favour and go and test drive a Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max. It has honestly blown me away. I've driven Mercs for the last 10 years and honestly I would now get a Chery. The amount of car, and quality car at that, you get for the money is amazing. The top spec is R670k while a Mercedes GLB is R1.3 million. The Chery has better build and material quality.
😂😂😂😂“Mercedes, yerr Mercedes. Your built quality?” 13:54
Give us a peek under the bonnet next time, please. Just curious. 😊
It's crazy but the bonnet can't be opened!
ROFL at the TikTok esq touch with sound 😂 shoulda started same tho..
Meh is the build quality just bad because it’s in Sa or is this the same abroad?
Great review, but electric is still so soulless, they don't have character at all. Yes they are fast and "amazing" if you drink the kool aid, but they are appliances. You don't love your fridge, and you never will.
Throttle house reviewed the i5….they weren’t impressed either
The one I watched. They were impressed with the i5 M60
0.0003% of 60 million people in RSA can afford this car, which amounts to 180 people.
I would say out of the Germans BMW has definitely upped its game with quality interiors. I actually think Audi has taken a step back but still better than Mercedes.
Does an electric amg make sense? The standard electric is already fast
I would get an audi RS6 and call it a day
That door card looks really awkward
It's an OK car, I guess. i mean, from synthetic oils to synthetic exhaust sounds.
i sense that, while these cars might help minimize road carnage, they sure will add bills to hospital bills. The cost is very depressing 😅😂🤣
Do electric cars go for service?
Just a check up once a year usually
14:08 So called German "quality". Even Toyotas are better built nowadays. And far better value for money. With reliability and longevity included.
You won't find that poor build quality in a Lexus😅
Marketing Toy. Unsustainable Technology. German Vehicle's have a Natural, Sell-By Date, Imagine where this Leaves you.......After 2 Years you will get a Pop-Up on the Screen......."Update Model"........and being Offered Small Change for it.
Hybrid is the Answer.
Great Vid.
The front looks like its squashed
14:06 dead!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
Hahaha. 😂😂 But it's so true though. Their cars are built like they're put together with pritt and sellotape.
1999 w202 owner
Still not a creek or rattle from the interior
Ah it looks so funny eeek lol 😬
Great and objective review! The conclusion: an EV Mercedes sucks.
No wonder Mercedes struggles to sell these overpriced and overhyped fast, boring, uncomfortable and ugly cars according to reputable consumer reports. And yes, I had a ride in two different EV Merc's, and they are pathetic offerings at the price point, with zero financial benefits compared to the ICE alternatives.
so they managed to make it look like a bull frog and to have the worst interior quality at this price point..I applaud merc for such courageous work
It's a little bland, don't you think?!
Funny we keep hearing how Mercs are not as good as the other Germans but they seem to last a lot longer in the real world. Even the much hated S and E classes of the Daimler Chrysler days seem to have outlasted their supposedly better rivals.
Anyway with those shoulders you are bound to get squeaks from any car.
Great review as usual though.
🤣🤣🤣 Bentley girl.
I would one day have an electric car of course but i absolute despise the fake engine noises these guys pump through the car, its fkn stupid.
Mercs are not that good looking lately.
I think SUV might be better than Sadan
Nissan Almeria is the ugliest car in the world.... Mercedes: Hold my beer....
I need to start trading on Bitcoin. This car is not the kind that can be bought with ordinary salary 😢 it is a delight to know that this vehicle exists ❤
cheapest plastic they could find. madness
2nd comment
It is ugly.
I will definitely not spend that money on it beautiful car but a pity it is electric 😢
Facepalm 🤦 it will take you 45 years to break even with an equivalent carbon spewing Ice car...and lets not fool ourselves, power is still generated from carbon based fuels!
Touring? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't understand why Mercedes still makes cars anymore. And i still don't understand why people buy their cars in 2023 . All their offerings are crap nowadays.
Great review given you had only an egg-shaped pile of manure to work with
Mercedes part 😂😂😂😂😂
electric cars are a scam where is the lithium and cobalt coming from??
I dont understand who would buy this and be excited about it... i understand if you are buying an electric vehicle for commuting... but this overpriced commuter does not make sense.
2nd to like, second to comment😂🤝
1st to like, 1st to comment😆
