I covered an early demo build of Mullet Mad Jack last year, but the full game’s just been released and it’s awesome! Also, keep an eye out in Error 0047 for a fun little easter egg! :) In the game there are 10 levels for each stage, but I’ve condensed it down to 3 to save a little time (3’s a good amount to show off the different weapons, new enemies and level sections). The game also has some very cool extras, which I’ve added at the end of the video.

Yeah there are lots of cool little touches like that! I think my favorite retro techy thing in the game is that it comes with a digital version of a physical 90's PC era box that you can unpack (I've added it at the end of the video). Also, all the steam achievements are floppy disks too!
That lady from Peace Corp is really giving me supervillain vibes. I mean it looks like the system is completely corrupt and that laugh just screams supervillain.....though I think that was the point.

So, this game is not only an homage to older anime-style games, but also a deconstruction: The whole game is essentially you being a slave to entertainment the whole time, fighting to save a celebrity just to be fighting again and again.
So much charm and nostalgia with this one. I really like the "Talking Protag" item: "It's the 90's again, Jack can give you some one-liners and life advices." 🤭
I hope they didn't change the voice actress. She sounded positively unhinged, perfect for the role of a death game company employee (like in the death game mangas), and I loved the way she said "thaaaank youuu!"
All of that for a sweet new pair of shoes. Also, I kinda expected the 'get killed and then rebooted after a headshot' part to come nearer the end of the game, but considering how this is pure insanity from start to finish, I guess that tracks.
I just realized that movies and games are coming back to past artstyle, references, and franchises. Is it either reboot/remaster/remake or bringing back the vibes of old era, revolving around that sense of nostalgia. Also people who are watching old movies and playing old video games are increasing.

Wow this looks like I'm watching one of those late 80s early to mid 90s anime OVAs on late night cable TV. Big hair, lots of noise, fan service and action.
ultrakill with anger foot and kung fury as the setting, mixed in a blender to create a unique flavor. there are moments when it gets silly with the jokes that make it unserious fun violence like anger foot, then it with deep arguments about the soul, human enslaved by themselves, there is no god, the red text that remains after the screen fades to black, the boss already dead leaving you in confusion... then the robot is in the screen fliping you off. really liked the game, it has a random, fun, unexpected vibe in every moment.
Man... I was expecting a typical 80's anime throwback, but I got a legit sci-fi experience. The music hit hard and that ending is just-- wow, one of the best twist in a long while. Bravo to this team.

This basically makes the antagonists look like a group of super-intelligent advanced robots... but they have zero common sense (really they just chose some random girl for their ritual who needed VIRGIN BLOOD without first checking that said girl WAS STILL a virgin?) . and honestly in the end I can't help but feel...disappointed, the protagonist is either very simplistic/stupid or, as they made clear, he is so desperate in search of a purpose that he prefers to keep those sneakers, (which are the UGLIEST things that I have never seen in my life that Mullet is an expert in violence but has a horrible sense of fashion) or a mixture of the previous two. I was honestly expecting something like an option to get a secret ending or something like that where Jack decides to face Peace (in a sequel or DLC or something)

The Peace Corp girl reminds me very much of Koto the announcer girl from YuYu Hakusho. Same art style too. I also like the idea that by 2090, shrinkflation has progressed to the point that the cans of soda you are constantly downing are literally only 3 or 4 sips compared to the current pint. Would fit the theme of constantly needing new stimulus, so having to drink the same flavored drink for more than a couple of seconds is bad for business. Thanks for posting this, man.
Can you imagine if this would have went hand drawn or like that 2.5D that’s going around. It would have been a masterpiece. I personally can’t engage if the style isn’t to my standard. Great concept! Terrible execution.
