Overwing Slide Deployment A320

- This is an Airbus training video on the deployment of the overwing exits on the Airbus A320 series aircraft. When the hatch is removed, the slide starts inflating from a compartment aft of the hatch. This slide is not designed to be used in a ditching emergency as it does not detach and water may be taken into the aspirator during inflation. (However, passengers on US Airways Flight 1549 were able to utilize the A320 slide/ramp while awaiting rescue.) This design of evacuation slide is found on A318, A319 and A320 aircraft.

why didnt they use this on the Spirit airlines NJ bird strike fire?
It relies on passengers. They probably didn’t do what they should. Also the plane was half full so I think they did well without overwing exit. But if it would’ve been a full flight I suppose they would’ve used the overwing exit as well.
