Hi Mark, great update. The bridge in front of the backdrop is really adding to the depth of the layout. It looks much more spacious than it actually is. Great job 😍
A truly brilliant discussion and video. I personally think the trees and hills work best, rather than the crops, because the crop background looked too flat to go with the hills with the viaduct, but I am just glad it is not my call, because both really created a great sense of depth. You are really making something special already, Mark! A pleasure to watch!
Thank you Anthony, still a work in progress but I might try a few different backgrounds to see what works best for the look, but thanks for your suggestions I like the trees and hills too 🙂
That backscene is spot on for the illusion mark the backscenes are in my opinion not to scale in the foreground but dropping it like you did gives a better perspective nice one .
I like how you are creating a depth of field, keep working at it, as you say, experiment, you'll nail it soon enough mate. All the best. Brian @ The Angels
Hi Mark There is a sense of depth through the viaduct and it all depends of the camera position . I did notice that on one angle with the fields showing you did get good depth. Great progress so far. Cheers Kev
Yeah definitely agree you’ll only really see it on those low shots, think a lot depends on the back scenes, I was thinking of some small trees on the hills to break it up a bit
Thank you Phil, it might not work but least I tried hey, well at least it will be something a bit different to look at I’ll just keep going just hope I don’t ruin it in the process but hopefully I can develop skills over time 🙂
The view through the viaduct is great, the perspective works very well. The only point I would raise is that if your usual viewing height is above this you may not see the benefit of this and the higher view may be jarring.
Hi Mark. The depth of field scenery behind the viaduct is a different idea and is one that I don't think that I have seen before. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. Best wishes. Mark aka Captain Static 😀
Hi Mark, I like how your layouts starting out. I watched your running session earlier and I think you have a great space for a layout there along with some pretty nice looking baseboards. I bet it was a warm one in the attic today? Anyway, I'm going to add a sub as I really want to see how your layout progresses. All the best Dave.
Thank you Dave I have already subscribed to you too, appreciate the support from yourself, yeah it’s definitely getting hot up there so I do a bit in the mornings whilst it’s still cool or cooler 🙂
Hi Mark This scene is getting better and better, as you say the careful choice of backscene will be needed, personally I would try and go for something like plain trees or hills in the background with just empty fields in front (ie without any buildings in view) to try and keep the 'illusion of depth' going. The line behind the viaduct, if that is going to rise to meet the lines on the viaduct, I think that will be "difficult to keep the perspective" shall we say, although it is your layout and of course you are free to do that. Perhaps a lot of 'dry-run' placing of (downloaded images ?), to see how it would look first might be an idea before fixing in place. It really does look great so far and I don't mean to be too critical, merely an observation, good luck with it though, I look forward to seeing how it progresses. P.S. I'm not sure it would help but try having a look at "Chandwell" (an N gauge model railway), on you tube, I know its a townscape and not countryside but the perspective is awesome and to think its in N gauge!
Peter thank you so much for your comments they are always welcomed, I agree and this is the second comment about trees and hills and I think I will try something similar with no buildings, I do watch chandwell brilliant work way past my skill level, hopefully I’ll develop over time, but as you rightly said I’ll just keep up with the dry runs until it looks as good as I can get it at least, thank you again for your support 🙂
Yeah I did look back and think that, hopefully with the incline it will show more of the loco, plus I have to move the viaduct about an inch forward so I’ll get a bit more distance to the back scene- I’ll just have to keep trying it may not work but hopefully my modelling skills will develop over time - I’m currently watching rock painting tutorials so I can practice before I add the details 🙂

You're making great progress Mark, the depth effect with the back scene works perfectly it looks great
Thank you Digger 🙂
It will look amazing when it all comes together thankyou for the video
Watching this now, great opening scene with great oerspective

Thanks Brian, something I’ll keep having a try with, I was thinking some half scale trees might help, hope your doing well atb mark

Thanks yeah a work in progress I just hope it works in the end 🙂

Looking good. Seeing the back scene through the viaduct gives depth. I think the camera angles will be important. Great progress. Regards Paul.
Definitely agree will need to upgrade the camera equipment soon too 😬
Great Video Mark layout coming along nicely. You are making great progress. Regards Tom
Thanks Tom, hopefully with a few more lines down and another loco running it will seem a bit more filled rather than a blank space 🙂
Coming on well like the prospective in the making. Cheers Phil.

Layout is coming along nicely. Definitely looking forward to what is next.
Thank you Gordon 🙂
Nice to see the layout taking shape, Mark. Wish mine was too.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks yours is, main thing is your trains are running good, they looked good on your stream the other day 🙂
Guess you are right with this way . Greetings , Robert .
Not to sure about if it’s right but I’m hoping it may work to some degree 😬🙂
Looking great, enjoying your videos.
Thank you bob, your support is really appreciated 🙂

Thanks Mark, not sure it will work but here is to trying lol, will try add some small trees to break it up a bit , hopefully
Yeah. That's the thing though, if you don't try you don't know. So at least with trying it you will know either way.

I see what you have done now. Maybe reduce height of landscape on far side do you will see more of the locos on far side ?

Good use of the viaduct and background to give some forced perspective.
Thank you work in progress so kinda hope it works 🙂
Are the landscape areas on the far side of the arches temporary?
