For what he does, yea he’s good, but comparing him to Gary Smulyan (the same person that he studied with in Manhattan School of Music after the passing of Joe Temperley), he wouldn’t be anywhere close to him.
This song is so layered and complex that being off time a little bit can throw things off. It happened a few times in this performance. But the sense of joy that this song carries was still there.
DerfGaming the second guy was definitely the best but this song is song is so delicate, sometimes it just sounds like noise. In this case, to me, it sounded like a cacophony of sound. The improved solos were pretty good though.
That last guy is Gary Smulyan. He is a regular member of the Mingus Big Band and the Village Vanguard Orchestra. Chances are you will find him Monday nights at the Village Vanguard in New York playing in some band. I will bet he has played this tune a few thousand times with the Mingus Big Band.
@@ryanelecciri8164 ah, never seen a Bb, only the low A. But now that I know that thing exists i was suddenly getting restoration videos for the low Bb's, very nice
The bari with the shorter bell is a low bb baritone saxophone before the low a bari was common the low bb was very common. The manufacture of that bari gary smulyan is playing is a conn 12 m bari sax
I liked it but the third guy messes up a lot. They all sound a bit flat. None of them besides the 4th guy are playing in time. Just isn’t swingin like it could be
just realized how good leo p is
SC L he’s actually really not that good, I mean I respect him but like he only follows the modern trend of bari sax.
He just makes it sound way better
Canal Noia it's not only how good he is but the energy brings

Do you not realize the man who taught Leo p is the first player on the left. BRUH

Great band!!!
Gary Smulyan was layin it down. Can't say the same for the others.
Yes there is definitely a *_huge_* difference between Gary and the rest.
don t b h8n. Sound good 2 me
The third guy messed up his time pretty badly at the beginning but I actually really liked his first solo when they were trading 16s
The first and last did the best
When someone plays a low bb bari, you know they're serious
"uH!"
This rips! I play bari too :)
i liked the second guy the most, but the last guy's sound on bari sounded a little harsh, almost like he was chewing the notes

"Song" jajajaja
I agree

So him with Woody Herman in 1979 in nice, Great 7:18
Nice baritone saxophones.
That 3rd guy screwed up so bad at the beginning
There are no wrong notes in jazz, just better choices
Jacob Schiess yup
Does anyone know what saxophone was to the left of the bari sax players? i've never seen that kind before, looks like a lower pitched tenor
It's actually a Low Bb Bari Sax instead of a Low A Bari Sax
@@ryanelecciri8164 ah, never seen a Bb, only the low A. But now that I know that thing exists i was suddenly getting restoration videos for the low Bb's, very nice
Big boys
Fire
Jazz with balzzz!
Woah 4 Bari sax playing moanin by the goat Charles Mingus 😂😂never thought I would ever see this 🥶
pure dynamite~!
this isn't really swinging like it could
Man I feel bad for gary 😅
The low Bb bari played it the best. Not splatty like some of the others
Gary Smulyan is the reigning world champion of the baritone sax.
They all sound a bit flat in pitch to me
@Keanan Lol, that's not how it works.
なんで伸びないんだよ
3人目の人のマイクの位置をさりげなく直す4人目がイケメン
あと最初のバリトンベルが短いけどどこのメーカーだろ古いやつかな

Bruh the first guy on the left is Gary Smulyan, maybe you should look him up
Why are they so out of tune?
WTF
There all not really that good except Gary smulyan
(First guy on left)
audio is terrible, plus the band sounds like a train wreck
That’s called jazz made by Charles Mingus
@@araxshiriau9275idk I've heard renditions of this song that don't sound bad.
